I am running Windows Media Center 2005 (SP 2).

I get this error when I am trying to run the setup for speakers/video.

I am running Athlon 64 3200, with ATI HDTV Wonder, ATI Radeon 9600. There also happens to be on-board Realtek AC97 (5.1 surround). I am not sure if that is conflicting with the HDTV card's 5.1 technology somehow. Doesn't make much sense to me, but since it keeps crashing on the speaker test where it attempts to play sounds through all 5 speakers, I thought it might be relevant.

The 5.1 surround works outside of Media Center.

Good news, I think!!!

ATI's website had a new driver (11/12/2004) that I just downloaded for my Radeon 9600, which probably means they modified the graphics driver for other problematic models of Radeon cards. After I installed the driver, I had to reboot. Upon Windows logon, the screen flickered black for a moment, then came back up. I went on to the Windows MCE setup, where I kept encountering the ATI2DVAG driver problem. This time, the setup completed without failing.

Go to http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
Click on your OS (Windows XP, 2000, etc), then click on "Graphic Driver," then locate which ATI product you are using. Download. Install. Reboot. Pray it works ;-)

I hope this works for you guys.

Hello,

having major problem with toshiba satellite laptop. Problem arises when using computer, message appears stating a problem has been detected and windows has to shut down.... the problem seems to be caused by file : ati2dvag.dll

TERMINAL_SERVER_DRIVER_MADE_INCORRECT_MEMORY_REFERENCE

It then proceeds to dump physical memory

I have AVG and zone alarm installed. I have also installed SP2

Can anyone shed some light on this please.

I have had similar problems you had - three types of errors occurred:
- error in ati2dvag, resizing to a very low screen resolution
- total freeze up
- I tried to update the drivers - this resulted either in a blue screen on startup, or on some msg that vpu-recovery has set something back and that I needed to reboot - on reboot I only got a black screen
(I was only able to get our of this mess with system restore)
after trying several software related things, I phoned the hotline, because I have still warranty on this machine. They immediately said it is an hardware issue after I described the symptoms and I got a new graphics card.
I have had no more problems so far :)
I don't know what of the above applies to you, but I think a defect in the graphics card is definitely worth to be considered ....

I have same problem and I recognized that here is problem with DirectX 9.0 xxx.
I install SP2 and system totaly crash during planying any games, so I tried to uninstall
SP2 and DirectX was reinstall from 9.0c to 8.xxx
Then everything was clear, any games works perfectly without problem...
I tested install DirectX 9.0c and problems returns to me... :o(

So I know where is problem but don't know how fix it, because new games like The Sim2
need DirectX 9.0c.

I am strugglig with this problem (Hang ups, ati2dvag.dll stopped working message, Safe mode boot, Blue Screen of death) since I upgraded the OS (WinXP Home) to SP1 in September 2002. Ati and Toshiba support proofed to be totally useless, all they recommended was a new OS install. I tried all 3 drivers that Toshiba had out on their site(from 2002, 2003 and 2004), and also did several OS installs and 2 BIOS updates and the problem still occurs especially when I do Power Point, Media Player and somtimes even doing Word and Excel. Any Ideas anybody????

System: Toshiba Satellite 1900, 1.7GHz, 1GB RAM
OS: WIN XP Home, 2002, SP2
Mobility Radeon M6, Driver: Ati2dvag, Version 6.14.10.6334, 3/30/2003

I've been through about every step imaginable.

I've changed my IRQ settings.
I've got the newest Catalyst Drivers.
I've got older Catalyst Drivers.
I've tried DNA Drivers.
I've removed the Card, cleaned it off and reseated it time and time again.
I've checked RAM.
I've reinstalled Windows.
I've used Service Pack 1 only.
I've used Service Pack 2.
I've got rid of Spyware, Viruses and all the rest of it.
I've formatted D:\ (My XP Installation Area)
I've deleted all the old drivers from my machine.
I've removed the side panels.
I've added fans.
I've replaced fans.
I've replaced heatsinks.
I've updated the Motherboard Software.
I've tried different settings.
I've tried underclocking.
I've tried 3 types of overclocking program.
I've explored the avenue of 2D/3D settings.
I've halfed my Aperture.
I've turned on and off VPU Recover.
I've reset the primary graphics driver to AGP.

So if anyone wants to pull a rabbit from the hat, be my guest.

I guess the solution is to stay far away from ANY ATI products and their garbage drivers.

I think that I fix this problem, I install Omega driver v.2597 and slow down AGP to 1x.
It's maybe only my local problem with AGP, but it works on my computer.

Nice one Jan, anything's worth a try after how much I have done with a zero success rate.

I'll give it a shot right now.

Should I uninstall any current drivers I have and then install the Omegas?

Installed the Omega drivers (rad_win2kXP_omega_2605a) and at least the applications seem to be stable now. I have not put the system to a real test playing some games but thanks for the tip.

So far so good, only gripe is that I was offered to install 3 other things, and I wasn't really told what they would do for me. Also the pant-wettingly long delay time for the drivers to kick in on it's first boot into Windows almost had me in tears.

Well all's well so far - About to test them out in CounterStrike, I shall report back soon.

My AGP Video Controller has no IRQ and I just tried to run DirectX Diagnostic Tests on my Display and caught a quick glimpse of the DirectX logo spinning at an insane speed before being greeted by a nice black monitor with pulsing power LED.

Solution #27 : Install older DirectX Drivers.
Solution #28 : Grant the AGP Video Controller its own IRQ.

Man I'm on my way to writing this book and making myself a million, then I won't have to worry about crappy hardware, I'll just build a new PC from the best of the best of the best.

Yes, but if you have old DirectX drivers you can't play new games or I'm wrong?

That is true, but if I can play my cousins at CS, DoD, TS and so on I'm not too bothered - Maybe the nice DirectX people can make something that doesn't conflict with my system.

I did read that on a download site "You may be surprised to know that your machine may conflict with DirectX." - OK so how come this is the first time I've heard? And how come you're not solving this problem?

I can't seem to find the last version of DX - was it 9.0 or 8.1?
