I think the obviousness of the scam keeps almost anybody away from it.

Oh trust me when I say many have already fallen for this scam, I even got emails from readers asking whether this is for real or just another scam. To me these emails indicate that the sender has not fully done away with the notion this could be a genuine offer.

As the saying goes, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is................."

It's amazing how many people truly believe they can get something for nothing.

And it's definitely not just "older people"

For the past few days I have seen users in our organization resurrecting the old AOL/MS chain letter (get free money) and forwarding it to group lists of over 4000 people at a pop. They are apparently really thinking they will get a check from Bill Gates! One sender says" You have nothing to lose......."!!
Yeah, except maybe your job.

And then we had users responding to to the senders with emails like" ...stop sending me this stuff..".etc. To make it worse, they were sending their email back to the group lists!

Some of the senders may very soon wake up to find they have a lot of free time at home to think about their fortunes.

Email is great.

I get them too, Sander. Another one I've been seeing a lot is about Bill Gates which is as follows;

"I'm forwarding a forwarded message...read on, it it works you may get $$ from Microsoft. Certainly Bill has enough to share-maybe today we'll be blessed financially!

I am forwarding this because the person who sent it to me is a good friend and does not send me junk. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that Internet explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test. When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it (if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period. For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $5.00, for every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $3.00 and for every third person that receives it, you will be paid $1.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check. I thought this was a scam myself, but two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on, Microsoft contacted me for my e-mail and within days, I received a check for $800.00. "

The other thing that creeps me out is that people don't mind being tracked by Microsoft...ur...<shiver>. I'd like to have the money but I wouldn't let anyone pay me to make the world use a Microsoft...wait...excuse me, *Spyglass* program.

I find it pretty sad that people actually buy this stuff. :~

Hi! All

Yes I agree with most of the comments. and agree with Larry England, it's not just OLDER people
You have only to look back at the number of younger HWA members who fell for "The Sony Laptop Saga" not long ago and sent $5 to gain points for a free Laptop. Some of them even posted links unkowlingly or knowingly on HWA with their ref number,...... some hoping to get more points. :-)) :-))

Kind Regards to all
