In the article youm mention being able to unplug one of the ide drives, when the system is still running. How is that possible, when your not using SCSI/firewire/(SATA??)?

Ive always been lead to believe that this simply isnt possible, and would damage the circitry in some way, since its not designed for a live powered disconnect?

Hi Alexander,

In fact, IDE RAID is quite possible, and has been for some time. There are a couple companies that make IDE RAID products, the most recognizable of which is Promise Technology. (see http://www.promise.com ).

The server in question uses a Promse IDE RAID controller.
