Ok, from what it looks like, no one has posted this thread yet...

If you have softmodded a 6800nu with a 16x1,6vp, please send me a PM...

Background on the 6800nu: Doesn't use the same PCB as Ultra. Has the same core as Ultra/GT. Has 12-pipelines, opposed to the GT/Ultra's 16. In some cases, the 6th vertex pipeline has been disabled. The utility used to enable these pipelines is called "RivaTuner" and you should look for version 15.2. You can get it at http://www.guru3D.com. If I forgot anything, PM me.

From what it looks like on the Guru3D forums (or at least link: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?threadid=108895&pe...genumber=1)... these are the stats... They should be accurate within 1-2 ticks... I wrote down EVERY persons name that posted a result, took tally marks, and split it into 4- categories... here they are:

LE cards are the 8-pipeline, 4vp 6800nu.
The eVGA Limited Edition is believed, by me, to be a 6800 Ultra in disguise. This Limited Edition card was not anounced anywhere in the above chart.

HOWEVER -
The eVGA 6800 Limited Edition card was removed from newegg.com a few weeks ago. While there, every person that had tried unlocking the pipelines, was successful! The only reason they couldn't get it up to Ultra GPU speeds was because the Limited Edition still had the Non-Ultra BIOS, resulting in a 1.2v core. One card did, however, come with all pipelines unlocked and a 1000MHz Memory speed, right out of the box.

I will be searching other Guru3D forums and add their results to this post.

And remember, PLEASE do not flame in this post. I have, and will continue, to put a lot of time and effort into this topic. I don't wish to have it locked down by the moderators. Don't turn this into an ATi vs nVidia battle... we have enough of those. Just search for "nVidia vs. ATi" in the Search bar in the top right of the HWA Homepage. That's what it is there for.

And remember: This is SPECIFICALLY 6800NU PIPELINE UNLOCKING ONLY! If you would like to make an ATi VGA BIOS Flash topic, please do. We will all be interested in more reading.

If you have something to post, make it short and simple. If you wish to add your own unlocking experience, please tell us about it, but remember to SEND A PM TO ME so I can add your card to the results. If you posted your results in other forums under a different name, give that name, please. I will also be searching through Anandtech and will eventually post those results in a different topic. Thank you, and enjoy.

Sincerely,
Lord Coldfire

THESE CARD UNLOCKING NUMBERS ARE VALID UP TO October 23, 2004, AT THE GURU3D FORUMS! Topic "Successful 6800nu Softmods" or something close to that....

Sincerely,
Kash

I heard that that the only one you can softmod is the Leadtek version. I dont know if its true or not, probably not.

Not many are softmodable.Mostly the 6800Le's that seem to be modding the most and thats only to 6800nu levels with 8 pipes to 12 and from 4 to 5 shaders..It was a rumor about the 6800nu leadtek's being the most softmodable.I heard of a few saying that there were able to softmod in neweggs reviews. But no proof.I have only read about 5 so far..I know my evga 6800nu wasnt not modable. But it looks like evga's 6800nu with 12 pipes and 256 DDR3 are really softmoddable.

Hey mothow... what brand card are you using? I want to add it to my collection of data. I think it'll help people in their future purchase of video cards. Someone might not have enough now, but say, if they want to buy a video card in 6th months, they can look back at this and say "hey, that card did good at unlocking, I'll get that one!"... That's pretty much the reason I'm doing this. Thanks!

Just PM me your card brand if you want, or if you want to post it for the world to see, you can post it here.

New numbers have been posted... Leadtek and BFG OC have increased their numbers greatly, in almost all categories... It seems that these are the most stable at opening pipelines, so that might be a consideration in your next card purchase... eVGA isn't doing so bad either, and neither is newcomer Galaxy...

I have an eVGA 6800nu.IT now scores 10052 in 3dmark03 at deafault speeds 325/700 with the 66.81 drivers.3Dmark05 is 3600 i dont know why.But I cant OC this card with it softmodded. My best score with this card in 3dmark05 before that was 3600 to but i had to OC the crap out of it and my CPU was OCed to 3.75ghz..Now= i can do it at default card speeds and my everyday OC of 250 fsb=3.5ghz.

You've gotta' up the voltage... I should've made that clear... sorry.... If you browse the guru3d forums, there should be a thread called something like "RivaTuner 15.2 success"...browse through there and there should be someone who talks about changing your voltage... There is a special utility... the 6800NU is at 1.2v default... you have to change it to 1.3v or 1.4v to keep it stable... This should also provide the voltage headroom you need for overclocking your shiz... good luck!

Is there a BIOS I can flash my 128MB 5700U with to up the voltage?

Aw, Carter... damnit, I thought you new better... lol, ah well...s**t happens.

Not quite sure about a BIOS flash for yours. I don't think it would matter, as it only has DDR, I believe, not DDR2. Besides, DDR2 was known to be a little unstable, so that's why nVidia jumped straight to GDDR3.

OmniExtremeEdit FX 1.5 google search and download it and a flash rom to get a copy of your bios so you can change the voltage then re flash it with the modded bios.I need a new Floppy drive so i can do it also.I wonder if i can use my USB zip drive?

Hey guyz,
I wanted to buy 6800nu for my system, so which brand i should take which is most likely to softmod. I know the above posts suggest leadtek, but there is also rumor stuff about leadtek in some posts.
Also would like to know how's the chances are for BFG in paticular, 'cause its the cheapest available and its already OCed, so i don't have to do it myself.

As mothow said, I do have a completely unlocked BFG 6800OC. I'm not quite sure how it does at clock speeds (I unlocked and oc'ed further, right off the bat). I'm sorry that I haven't updated my chart, but I did once, and it didn't take, so it p**sed me off. I should have the tallies posted tonight. I have heard nothing about Leadtek not be true to the unlock, but as it looks, BFG looks like it's ahead in the pipeline unlocking department anyway. If you can, go RIGHT NOW and get the BFG 6800OC from Best Buy. Best Buy's $250 sale on the 6800OC is only good through the 30th, so you better hurry up if you want one of these cards. They rock! My 3dMark and AquaMark scores are posted in my profile.

The Asus listed above is almost exactly like the Ultra. GDDR3, Dual Molex, same capacitor placement. The Asus listed in the above chart is the GE version, so if you have that, you should be golden.

I get better scores than you in 3dmark03 but in 05 you get like 300 points better than me. whats up.Why would that be?Also everyone is saying the evga 6800LE have 16X1 6vp opened just like a 6800ultra but they dont OC worth a dam.So these guy's are down loading Modded Ultra Bios into these cards. There setting the speeds at 350 to 400 core and 550 ram since they have the same ram as the ULtra's but setting the core to 350 or so and that leaves some room for overclocking without risking messing up your card.So you are getting a ultra for 350 and change plus a bios flash.I have no problem flashing a bios to get better card.link for flashing the 6800LE
