You can get it at guru3d. There will be sider to over and underclock your computer. It only took 10 mhz to make a diferents in mine. Good Luck

Has anyone else tried to go back to a previous configuration (before the install of the NVIDIA card) and received the same errors? Is there any other scenerios of possible AGP port damage from installing a Geforce4 card?

My K7tpro2a was running UT2003 fine with a Radeon AIW card and XP Home. Installed a Geforce4 MX420 and got the errors. Tried almost everything above - didn't underclock or try the Power Management configuration though. I went back to the Radeon with a clean install of XP and got errors.

Is there something else I have overlooked? It would have to be hardware damage right?

Hey
I said it before (but that doesn't matter). I used coolbits. You get an extra option in the option menu of the card. I underclocked my card 30 mhz and it works fine, the next thing what i'm going to do is get a new power supply and a huge fan for my gpu. That must solve everybody's problem.

During my troubleshooting I had placed my old G2 GTS back in. It ran flawlessly.

Take it for what it's worth.

Alot of you people say that you solved the problem by turning of APM. Is this in windows or in BIOS ?
If in windows, how do you do it in Windows XP ?

I did it in both. In windows xp in the control panel you have "Power Options" I set everything to 'never' under the "Power Schemes" tab. Under the "Hibernate" tab I unchecked it. this is what worked for my computer. Everything else is set to run at Max settings. No "test_driver" installed.

Hello first time user to here been reading all about this problem and think we have found the fault here in 3 parts
1/ turn all power settings to never.
2/ make sure you are not using onboard sound with same irq as graphics card/ethernet card.
3/use ddr ram memory.
after these have been meet i have been able to play unreal tournament and ultima online and all other games without any freezes at all this problem has had 4 techies on this and problem has been fixed now hope this helps everybody with this problem

Hi there,

THIS SOLUTION HAS WORKED FOR ME !!!

I used to experience the same problems, as described on this forum, with 3D gaming on my new PC.

I constructed a system with a Intel P4 2666 processor, 2x 512 MB DDR400 (PC3200) memory (Samsung), a Chaintech ti4200 128 MB 8xAGP videocard, Creative Audigy2 soundcard, 2x Maxtor Diamond Plus 120GB HDD, Benq CDRW and Benq DVD and a Realtek 10/100 NIC. This is all mounted on a Soltek SL-85ERV2 MB. I have a 350Watt ATX 2.03 Power Supply.

Almost every 3D game I tried to play crashed to the desktop under XP after between 30 seconds and 15 minutes. I am (now) running WinXP build 2600 with DirectX 9.0 and NVidia drivers V41.09.

After several days and sleepless nights I contacted an old friend for whom the term "PC GURU" is and understatement. He explained to me that the problem was in the DDR RAM. Some Motherboard and VGA chipsets in combination with DDR RAM are causing trouble.

He advised me to simply remove one 512 MB DIMM from the bank. As this would still leave me with 512MB, I followed his advice and I have not had a single problem/crash since. So the advice is to use the first of the three memory banks on your motherboard when using DDR RAM.

Everything I tried before was useless, like upgrading to DX9, adding extra coolers, changing several BIOS settings (I even upgraded the BIOS), and last but not least trying all possible NVidia drivers af the last decade or so ;-)

Sorry if it does not help you, but it won't hurt you either if you give it a try. Post a message if it worked for you too !!

I am really happy now :-)

Dennis

my graphics card and nic card share the same IRQ. I am running XP. How do I change the IRQ on one of the cards. I can't figure it out.

If you are not comfortable doing this, then don't. Or get a friend who is experienced to help out.

This one stumped me as well. I tried everything under XP and could not get it. It's in the BIOS.

Before do the following it is recommended that you look at your "Device Manager" and select "View" and then "Resource by type". Click on the "+" next to "Interrupt Request (IRQ)". Write down all the IRQ's that are there and what they are assigned to. That way you will know which ones not to use. If any IRQ's are shared with "PCI Steering" that is ok. Usually you do not want your soundcard/NIC/display adapter sharing any IRQ's with each other.

On my system (ABIT KT7A) there is a menu option in the SOFTMENU called "PnP/PCI Configurations". Yours will most likely be different, but hopefully similiar.

WRITE DOWN ANY SETTINGS AND THEIR VALUES BEFORE YOU CHANGE THEM!! I use a printer connected via parallel cable (USB does not work in BIOS except for USB keyboards) and PrintScreen each page to the printer. Remember that some pages are scrollable. So scroll down and print that portion of the page as well.

In here there were some options called:
"PIRQ_0 USE IRQ NO. Auto"
"PIRQ_1 USE IRQ NO. Auto"
"PIRQ_2 USE IRQ NO. Auto"
"PIRQ_3 USE IRQ NO. Auto"

I used my cursor and arrowed down the list. As I did this on the right side of the display it told me what device was currently assigned that IRQ by the BIOS.

For the G4 it was called "Display Cntrlr" for my NIC (Network Interface Card) it was called "Network Cntrlr".

These were set to AUTO. I selected the one that displayed "Display Cntrlr" on the right side and pressed the enter key. This brought up the selection screen. I scrolled down and selected "11" for this device.

You then do the same for the NIC. In my case I chose "10" for it.

Remember to save your changes in the BIOS.

Once I booted up, I checked the "Device Manager" and everything was cool.

My bios just tells me PCI or ISA/EISA in the IRQ area. I can't change it by device. My motherboard is a MSI-6380
Thanks for the help.

My AMD/Geforce Ti4200/XPsp1 freezes everytime I try to run a directx game (same problem you all have). But today I tried something that worked. I installed windows ME + directx 8.0a and now I am able to
play again :-)

There is definately something fishy with directx 8.1

well what a bummer! I just bought a Inno3d Tornado Gforce4 MX440 SE card and then read this. good thing I only paid $42.00 shipped for it or id be angry. I dont think I'll install it.

now I have been building machines for years of all sorts and am a tech. well last year I built a AMD 1200 with an MIS workstation SCSI mobo and burned out 2 processors of which AMD replaced both times. turned out the MSI board had some bad resistors or something and would read the wrong temp (too high, when it wasnt. it always ran cool as cool can get) and turn off my processor fan. trust me after the 2nd time I parted it out on eBay and bought a Compaq which I never thought i would do but with 2 kids now (one 2years and one 6 months) I dont have time to mess with my computer. so have been happy for a while, I do alot of movie ripping.

now I decide to buy this new gforce card as I miss gaming and the compaq has a 16mb vanata nvidia card. do I have bad luck?

anyone having issues with a compaq presario 5320US machine P4 1.6 ?

post and let me know, I wont install this card till someone knows the overall problem. glad though this forum exists. found it through yahoo.

System:
WinXP sp1
MSI Gforce4 TI 4400 (Nvida ver 41.09)
SB Audigy
MotherBoard Asus A7V8X
AMD 2400+

After upgrading to DirectX 9 some of my games failed. The problem was that i couldn't use hardware sound anymore, some sounds disappered and there wasn't possible to play. As I turned of hardware sound I was able to play the game, though not as good as before directx9.

I have red a lot of post's here, and tryed a lot of things but nothing fixed my problem. I have written to Nvida and Creative and they gave me some tips, but no.. I have also searched in Microsoft knowledgebase but nothing there either. The last thing I did was to turn of some of the hardware acceleration for direct3d, and then the games worked again. The first step when turning down the hardware acceleration for direct3d is mouse pointer and bitmaps, so I figured maybe it's the mouse drivers that's not working. I downloaded the latest drivers to my Logitech MX700 mouse. Now everything works with full 3d acceleration on.

So it seems like the old drivers for the mouse didn't like directx9 or the other way around.

Well I have a similar problem.

When I first installed my GF4 Ti4200 it worked okay, there was a fwe lockup problems occuring but they occured when i had my SiS 300 installed (yes i know)

This progressivley got worse and i have tried reisntalling windows and it's even worse now.

My system is

Processor: AMD XP2000+
Memory: either 256Mb of 333Mhz or 266Mhz (no difference to what happens)
Mobo: MSI K3Ultra2BR
OS: Windows ME Retail

The problem is that windows locks up soon after initiating the grahpics.

When I plug the card into my old Duron 600 it works great, I can play Grand Prix 4 with the graphics set pull pelt, ok the processor occupancy claimed by GP4 is above 400% but hey it's easier to drive an F1 car when you have a smooth flowing game running with 186Mph feeling like about 5.

I did manage to get it running in the XP2000 without DX8.1 thoguh i never ran it long enoguh to see if it was going to fall over.

Im going to try some of the solutions suggested above and report back if I find anything out. Should be usefull for people with ME and this problem

Niall

Hi, As many users, I have that problem too, this is my configuration:

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2000
Memory: APACER 256 MB DDR (one module).
Graphic Card: Jaton 3DForce GeForce 4 MX440 64MB DDR AGP 4x 1.5v
Mainboard: GIGABYTE GA-7VAXP
Chipset: VIA KT400
AGP BUS: 1x,2x,4x,8x 1.5v
HDDS: WESTERN DIGITAL 60 GB.

CDROM/DVD: IOMEGA CD-RW 40x12x40x
LITEON DVD-ROM 16x
Sound Card: CREATIVE LABS, Sound Blaster Live! Xgammer.
NIC: REALTEK RTL8139/810X
Fax/Modem: NETODRAGON v56.

OS: Windows XP SP1 4th Reinstallation (same problems in the Windows 2000 3 installations)
Direct X: 9
Detonator: 4.17.00.54.26
IRQ Conflicts: None
Power Supply: 350w

Patches/Drivers used:

Patch / Driver Result
Jaton Driver Crashes in all Games and Windows
Detonator Drivers: Crashes in all Games and Windows
VIA 4 in 1 4.43 Crashes only in Games.
Via Hyperion 1445v Crashes only in Games
Via Test driver 3DMark 2001 works fine 5 continous tests and no crashes, Wolfentein freezes, Jedi Outcast Freezes, NFS 5 and NFS6 Crashing, Quake works fine.
Installed 2 Case Fans Previous System Temperature: 39° C Actual: 37°C Previous CPU: 45°C Actual: 42°C, no better results in games.

All my hardware (except, mainboard, cpu and memory) has been tested in other system:

Pentium!!! 866 Mhz
384 MB PC133 RAM
Gigabyte Mainboard (sorry don’t remember the model)

And Works great.

I replaced the Gforce 4, with a Evga Gforce 2 MX 200 64 MB, and guess what?. Still crashing. But, when I put a S3 Virge DX (4 or 5 years older) all work good, (ok… I played at 640x480 medium – low detail)

Then, based in my personal experience and the info I have read here I can say that the principal problem is putting together:

Processor: AMD Athlon
Video Chipset: Gforce 2, 3, 4
OS: Windows ME, 200 and XP.
Direct X: 7 or higher.

I hope we will find a.s.a.p a real patch for that issue. is not the consumer fault choosing that hardware, we spend our money in those companies and they aren’t responding our demands
