I think my card may be overheating. I have a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis 128MB and a Dell Dimension 4600. If my card is overheating, what are the symptoms????? My screen flickers, garbles and flashes.

ya might also get CTDs and maybe random restarts, but most likely odd grafix in whatever game. i'd suggest getting a VGA cooler. picked up a thermaltake giant3 today. might wanna give it a look see. might also see some artifacting in games

It might be your monitor also, but I doubt that, your videocard is a possibility. Did you do any overclocking on any of your system parts? Make sure you dont overclock it too much, because you can start to see artifacts on your monitor, and if prolonged can cause permanent damage.

Also try installing new videocard drivers and see if that helps, did the videocard come with your dell? Or did you replace the existing videocard.

I think i have a similar problem.
My connect3d Radeon 9800 pro was fine until recently....

I get the garbled artifacts, and also the entire system shuts itself off, (this is only in games, it seems fine in windows xp), when it does this the power has to be switched off before it will restart.

the thing is this never used to happen.. so I dont know why it should suddenly overheat.

I just wonder what the symptoms of CPU overheating are as opposed to graphics card overheating, would you have the same artifacts and crashes?

Also i seem to be able to run UT2k4 in windowed mode without too much trouble, then the artifacts creep back. But running it in full screen the system reboots before ive even loaded the game, i.e the whole system crashes at the menu screen. This also happens in quake3.

system:
shuttle xpc with case off,
p4 3.0ghz with HT,
1gb TwinMOS ram,
c3d 9800 pro

Man....sapphire all over the place..i got this same card too...i RMAed earlier..but now its ok...well freezes and restarts do occur due to Unsufficient power supply....do u check ur Voltage readings?

whats voltage on ur 12V?.....if u dont have any software u can download Everest earlier called AIDA32..and tell us ur complete Voltage.

keep it open ..play any game....and then ALT+Tabbed it to see the voltages...and then post it plz.
