The Athlon 64 is. It's not really worth it, at this point, to build a new machine with the Athlon XP unless it is a secondary machine for something.

Antec Nine-Hundred
OCZ Modstream 450w
Gigabyte 965P-S3
2x512 DDR2-800 Corsair XMS
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz

Arctic Cooling Freezer
Audigy 2 ZS

Straight CPU comparisons don’t really mean too much for gaming at the moment, because it’s mostly down to fast RAM and video cards, so you’re more tied to getting a board which can handle those, rather than just picking a CPU and building the machine around that.

Get the fastest CPU you can afford, because then you’re in with more of a chance of having upgradeable kit in the future, for longer (if you see what I mean).

easy, Ath64 3000+
If your up for it increase the FSB to 210, maybe 215 and you have nice stable o/c with stock cooling
It will blow the other 2 into the weeds!

I 2nd 3000 64 bit.
the 3200 has a 400 FSB where as the 3000 should have a 800.

But out od the lot I would look at getting a socket 939. you can make some saving on RAM so take that into account when buy..

He asked about these the Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz/AMD Athlon 64 3000+/AMD Athlon XP 3200+.So why would u say if price is of no concern go with the FX-53 or even the 3400+.Those 3 cpu are all about thge same price so im figuring thats what he has to spend and your telling him about $900 cpu's..lol

As Rory quite rightly said, the AMD 64 3000+ is the best CPU of the ones you have listed. If you can afford to get a 939 CPU and Board it will probably be a little better (And I have heard it overclocks quite nicely)

The 3200+ is a fast system, but I feel you will get a slight edge with the 64 bit version and you might also get a little performance kick when the much talked about XP64 comes out early next year but who can say for sure on that one!

Guys, he named 3 cpus on his first post, so make your decision ouot of those. Its quite obvious that the A64 3000+ is better than the 3200+, not by much however.

Out of the three you listed, the 64 3000 is the best one for your purposes. Just make sure you get the socket 939 Winchester rather than the socket 754 Newcastle.

"it’s mostly down to fast RAM and video cards"

Yeah video card is important but i doubt you would get even a 3% performance increase from Kingston/Corair DDR400 compared to generic DDR400.

Obviously with overclocking better ram is needed....

LOL..thats a wierd comparison though...why only 1 Intel CPU?

Anyways...if given choices between those three i would choose AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Winchester Core, 90nm, 128-bit Dual Channel Memory Controller)

Although if u ask me one of the best chips for ultimate gaming experience...then my choice would be: -

* FX-55, really awesome :)

I'd say AMD 64 3000+. I'm getting one, and as other people told me, it runs cooler and can be OCed quite well. Also, it is very cheap, allowing you to save money to get other things. Gt the s939 version so that you have a s939 mobo for future upgradability.

He asked for those 3 CPU you moron. Amd AThlon 64 3000+ of course. FX-55 is not even worth the price. For best price/performance ratio against FX-53 and 55 would have to be Athlon 3800+ I believe.

Anyway go for 3000+
