Don't know if anyone is reading this post anymore but
I got my system working by changing Asus A8V deluxe
to MSI K8T Neo2-Fir. I got this hint directly from Echo
and eventhough I doubted that it would solve this, it did!

This board has been a nightmare. I bought it off NewEgg.com with an AMD 64 3000+and it came DOA (at least I thought it did). I got an RMA from Newegg and received a new board. Same problem. I did some research online and found out that the BIOS needed to be updated. I was unable to update this, so ASUS sent me a new chip. Finally the board turned on. After I installed Windows, I am having the same problem. I changed the BIOS settings to PnP OS. It was set to NO by default. I also downloaded the newest 4-in-1 drivers.

I then couldn't even get Windows to boot past the logo.

This is really frutrating as I am building this machine for a client. I have already had two weeks of downtime waiting for RMA's etc. I will call ASUS and attach a new ticket to the one specified. At this point I think I will have to buy a new sound card.

ARGH!
