Hello,

I have an iVogue USB 2.0 pen drive which has recently been corrupted, I think because a friend pulled it out of my computer without 'safely removing hardware' (I'm using Windows XP Home SP1). When I insert the disk, I'm told that it needs to be formatted, but when I try to format it I get a message after the formatting appears finished that says 'Windows can't format the selected drive' or something very similar to that. When I close the format utility, I get another alert saying something like 'the selected drive cannot be formatted'.

Is my pen drive fried? I have access to Apple and Linux machines - is it possible that formatting it on them will be successful? I just bought the thing two months ago, so I'd hate to have to junk it so soon.

Thanks a lot for your help,

David Wachsmuth

Thanks for your help. The only problem is, my pen drive was 'budget' and didn't come with any formatting software. Does anyone know of a place I could go to get some?

What format are you formatting it as?

In order to retain inter-OS compatability, a FAT format would probably be your best option.

Thank you to those who offered advice. I was unable to find the specific download that Josh suggested but finally followed the other advice suggesting uninstall other USB devices and starting again. I worked on the USB port supporting my printer and ultimately found that I now have 'G Drive' when I plug the device in. Having reinstalled the printer, I now find that the new device works on both ports!
Thanks again.

You'e replying to a 3 year old thread!

Secondly, are you serious that you have a 128MB dive?

Considering how cheap a brand new, fast 2GB+ drive is, just buy a new one.
