I'm glad there's someone else having exactly the same problem!! I've done everything that you have but still can't get any sound. There must be someone out there that knows what to do!!

double click the speaker icon in lower left hand side of computer. This will bring up a speaker control box, up on top it says options, click that and make sure advanced settings is enabled. Then under the volume control there is an advance option button, click on that. Make sure digital only isnt selected.

Further to my problem with no 'speaker icon'...there appears to be "no devices listed" under 'Audio devices.' Hmmm....the plot thickens!!! What on earth is going on with this computer???? :(

I'm having exactly the same problem.

My speakers work on my old computer but not on my new one.

I downloaded the realtek AC 97' driver and installed it 6 times and every time I look at my hardware settings it keeps showing HD audio drivers instead

I tried all the solutions listed here and can not figure it out.

I installed linux on my computer and the sound works in Ubuntu but not in windows.

I tried the solution in the previous post and in the speaker options "advanced options" is ghosted out
