hi i installed a new system over the weekend and got it running fine, tho 2day i took out the sound card, and when i came to boot it back up, it would not boot, i have the abit IT7 mobo and it was displaying FF, which means its trying to boot. the reason for it not boot up was the heatsink, i am using the standard heatsink that comes with the p4, i lefted one of the clips up, so that it was loses, and i tryed to boot, and it booted, but it was running at high temps. i tryed putting the clip back down so that heatsink was tight, and it never booted again ? i dont understand this because it was working fine intill i removed the sound card ?

also after reseting cmos a few times, when i get in windows the newtwork card says it's cannot open with "Code 10" which i think is this error
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;131782

and i cant find any settings in bios to do this

thanks in advance
current system

P4 1.8 northwood
abit it7 mobo
512 2700 cas 2.5 DDR
GF 4 ti4200
D-link network card.

You might want to get an aftermarket heatsink from, say Cooler Master.

The Intel 'stock' heatsinks are known to clamp down very very tight, to
the point of even bending the motherboard. That might be too much
pressure, and causing your system not to boot. Mabe intel boards can
handle this, but other brands might not.

The fact that if you pop a clip up, fixes the problem, makes me believe
that the Intel heatsink is putting too much stress on the processor socket.

I use a stock heatsink on my system too, and it clipped in really tight. So tight the latch broke off one side! It' still tight on the motherboard however, and I havn't had any heating problems yet. I am still gonna pick up a heatsink from a different company though, because the ones that come with intel kinda suck. Don't skimp money here, a crappy heatsink will burn out your processor, and that will cost you a bit of money.
