Masked

I'm setting up a new system as soon as my CPU gets here, and the experimental side of my brain is thinking of trying to set the whole thing up from a Windows XP-64 RC2 cd instead of regular XP.
>>>There are a few people that installed the 64 Bit version, Simon Lu is one of them. Maybe he can shed some light on this for you, he did report issues.

Also, I've seen several people mention problems with Maxtors in a RAID setup. As long as I'm not doing RAID, should I be okay with this drive? Or would it be better to ditch it and go with another brand?
>>>I dont see a problem with using this drive in RAID as long as you set the disks as Dynamic not Basic. On the second question it would depend on how many had it set up right and how many bad reviews there are as opposed to good, Maxtor is a good make I wouldn't rule it out.

Hey Mike,

Things are looking good atm except for the chipset fan. The max rpm is supposely about 6000, however probe says it's going at 8000 rpm.

Big problem? or error with probe program?

Thanks

only one shows an 'unknown' driver, i forget which

Until you clear this we'll never know. You never mentioned this before, I think anyway, it does make a difference, there can be no yellow exclamations in the device manager, to start. Put your mobo and other cd's in if you have additional PCI or external devices requiring drivers, and find the driver for that device by updating, even if you have to manually fish for it, folder to folder.

PS: Did you try to detect hardware in the control panel with the USB mouse connected and leaving the other one in?
Then go to mouse properties in the Hardware tab and see if it's there.

8000 range is correct, in the readings that is, I had the same RPM's.

I guess your install went ok and you're stable with the RAM in A1 and B1 now, that's good. Keep me posted.

Dan,
I tried that, but I'm not sure what I lowered it to. How low did you set the refresh rate to?

thanks
Matt

Well I just tried 75 on mine and it doesnt do it anymore, so maybe something in a bios or display driver fixed it since I checked it last.

Currently using 1004 Bios and 71.84 Nvidia Drivers.

<<<Been running my A8N-SLI Deluxe for a month now without ANY problems to speak of. I am very much wanting to use the SLI function but am not willing to pay for another XFX 6800GT. So I am going to most likely sell this card on eBay and get two of these:>>>/(quote)

I wanted to let you know that Leadtek(winfast) px6600gt extreme, runs at core 550 and clocks at 1.1 ghz. I have run one and its a very cool running stable card. Just check out the reviews on the card you are looking at, and the Leadtek. As far as I have seen, Leadtek has beat most others.

Let us know how your SLI set-up runs when you get it going please.

Hi all. Pc has been running smooth since I set it up 2 days ago. No PCIX card yet but next week I should have it. However, I ran into something very odd today. Asusprobe crashes my pc all the way back to post if I try to start it up. I had to start in safe mode and disable it from the startup menu. Ai Booster loads fine and lets me o/c and it shows the temps. This with asusprobe just started today. As far as I know, I havent changed anything from the way it was yesterday. Thanks for the help all, Id be so damn lost without you.

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI FAQ
I have problems with my A8N-SLI + 2 Maxtor DM9 120GB SATA harddrives.
My both Maxtor DM9 120GB SATA harddisks aren't always being detected, when they are they disappear from Windows after a while, never to show up again unless I disconnected and reconnect the sata-cable. Harddisk are not setup in RAID but as single drives all connected to the connectors from the NV chipset SATA-controller (not the Silicon), the Maxtor DM9 160GB SATA Harddisk doesn't seem to have troubles, I use this drive to boot from.
I have called Maxtor, they have send me a firmware update for my drives, but this doesn't seem to work. I tried upgrading in another system for safety reasons (didn't want my drives to disconnect while running the firmware update), on a P4C800 Deluxe motherboard where the drives are always detected at boot and do not disappear in Windows XP.

Of course I have upgrade BIOS, Drivers, Changed cables etc.
Mind, the system works flawless when I used a Maxtor SATA/150 PCI Card to connect these drives to.
But I would be very glad seeing it work on the onboard NV SATA controller.

Anyone having simular problems?

This setup:
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (bios 1004)
AMD 64 3800+ Boxed s939
Q-Tec 550W PSU
2x 1024MB Corsair ValueSelect (won't work stable in Dual Channel Mode, Single Channel no problem)
1x Point Of View 6600 256MB PCI-Express
1x Maxtor Harddisk SATA Diamond Max 9 160GB Model: 6Y160M0
2x Maxtor Harddisk SATA Diamond Max 9 120GB Model: 6Y120M0 (code: YAR51BW0 = firmware)
1x Creative Labs Audigy
OS: Windows XP + SP2, latest updates installed + All latest drivers installed.
(soon to be updated with a Sapphire X850XT 256MB PCI-Express)

Hi All,

Ive Finally Got some Stability

Asus A8N-SLI (non delux 1004 Bios)
AMD64 3500 (newcastle)
1GB Corsair (2*512mb)
Fortron 400w
Gigabyte 6600gt (nx66T128vp)
2 * Hitachi Deskstar 160gb Sata (Raid level -0)
Maxtor 200gb IDE
Silverstone LC10M Case
Audigy 2
Hauppage PVR150

After struggling with random freezes, both in activity and time, and memtest running consistantly for 48hrs
ive added PCILock to boot.ini as lo and behold things are cool. Yipeeeeeeeee

Anyone fancy providing me with any pointers as to why ?

The Problems cant be related to Audigy or the Hauppauge Card as ive installed those AFTER adding the /PCILock to boot.ini, its about my 5th XP install so slowy does it this time. Im not sure to analyze why this change should make a difference.

I think your Hauppage PVR150 causes this problem.

Can you update your post and provide us with the moded boot.ini file you have?

Last time you posted I think you were in the middle of installing your OS, glad to see you got things working.

Lots of people have claimed that the Maxtor Harddisk SATA Diamond Max 9 does not work on this board. If you got them to work, hmmmm, they worked for me. The Maxtor Harddisk SATA Diamond Max 10 seems to be ok to use though.
>>>Did you make your disks dynamic?
Apparently, there are problems with the NV SATA controller drivers, which might explain this erratic behavior.
