Merc-

These are PC3200 with 1024 MB/stick for a total of 2 GB. I have one in now and it runs fine, but with 2 in it does weird things. I have never had more than 2 sticks in at one time.

With Stick 'A', it ran fine as long as I had it in, in Windows XP.
With Stick 'B', it errorred out and created a log file in XP.
With both, it seemed to run fine, but about 1-2 min after it got to XP, it just rebooted out of nowhere.

I ran Simmtester on Stick A and it passed.
I ran Simmtester on Stick B and it passed.
I ran Simmtester on both sticks in simultaneously, and it errored out almost immediately and gave me this code: (Sticks were in slots A1 and B1)

runtime error M1603: MATH
floating point error: divide by 0

So there definitely seems to be something in dual channel.

Specs:

Asus A8N-sli deluxe
Amd 3500+
samsung 172x
sata 160hd seagate
antec truepower 550W
leadtek extreme 6600GT
..

I've had this problem for ages, i have tried everything and eliminated every possible hardware problem and software problem..... I have a look at my old computer and notice that it has the same problem..

what happens is that when i move a windows box on desktop it gets image tearing, (e.g. horizontal flicker when moving) this happens in games as well but isn't as bad when v-sync is on...

Its not the GC (tried other cards), nor the monitor, etc... Everything else is eliminated because the other computer has the same problem (chances of faulty hardware?? unlikely).

Therefore the conclusion is that it is the power being supplied to the house causing EMI (electro magnetic Interferrence) -along these lines...

What settings in bios can i change to counter this problem (e.g. frequencey, spread spectrum etc)?

Or what additional hardware can i get to fix this problem (e.g. EMI power filter)??\

Thanks for the help

Windows XP64 pro.

The release is suppose to be today. Many qestions come with it.
Does anyone have experience with this operating system? Mike?

Can one expect higer performance?
How are the XP64 drivers for this motherboard?
Can one expect even more trouble with this moderboard?

Answers to this would be appreciated.

With Ref: PC shutting down.

I have the same problem and have posted in the this forum seperatly. It seems to only happen when I am playing 3d games. The PSU seems to whine a bit (like a shorting sound...tttzzz.) and then the PC shuts down in a minute or two. I've also replaced my PSU...

Hi Paul!

I do not know what is wrong with your system, but the motherboard could be shuthing down
if critical components is malfunctioning. Some people with this motherboard include me
have had problems with chip fan. The same sound as you are describeing. I also thought it was
the PSU in the beginning. I do not know, but it might be that your chip fan is stopping (they are
crap coolers) and that the motherboard is shuting down.

Just thought you might be interested.

Brad-
I understand now and have to concur with your analysis that the RAM itself is in some way incompatible with this MoBo when run in dual configuration. On the ASUS site there are only 2-3 1024MB DIMMS that can be run in the dual configuration. This list, as I understand it, is not all inclusive but there does seem to be a very low # of 1024MB DIMMs to choose from. I assume you've tried changing timings and gone from 1T to 2T or just plain auto all the way around? If so I guess that you either run with a single DIMM (which kinda sucks) or ante up and get 2 new sticks of "Asus Approved" RAM. 2048MB (2x1024) of Corsair can be had for $319 on ZipZoomFly (free 2 day shipping) http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-55 and sell the other RAM on Ebay.

Bios 1007?

So has anyone tried it yet?

I have 1006 and I was wondering if 1007 was any better. I've read the release notes but to be honest I can't believe that released a new bios for those changes.

And..

What is this 4G Ram thingy???

>>>Turn the circuit breaker off to your receptacle and make sure the line (dark screw) and neutral (light screw) are on the proper screws and that your receptacle is grounded before you invest in a line conditioner.
To further help your situation I would run a dedicated line straight from the panel to your computer, something on the circuit might be causing a problem. At least find a dedicated outlet like your washing machine, panel plug etc. and give it a try, run a 14 gauge extension cord with a ground to your computer.

Sure Mike, if you can help it would be great. I just removed all the Nvidia drivers including firewall/network manager and the graphics driver, ran Driver Cleaner and then uploaded all the latest drivers and it cleaned up some little issues that were starting to effect my system (probably as a result of too much tinkering).

I just plugged the external HDD in, after I saw your message, and here is what I now have:
Device manager and Disk Management do not see the drive at all. NVRAID lists it as a healthy/SATA/primary/ master under Free Disk.

Hey,

I have my A8N-SLI running almost stable, but I still have one nagging problem:

When I try to go to 1280x1024 or 1280x960 in the source engine, it completely freezes, no mouse movement, the num-lock key doesnt respond, etc. This also occurs in Ulead DVD Factory after about 5-10 seconds. I am pretty sure its a driver related problem (not sound or video).

BIOS 1006
XP home
SP2 Minus a few updates that for some reason were causing BSODs after about 30 sec in windows.
Nvfirewall installed, but not used
Audigy 2 ZS

Any Ideas?

Straight disk copy, was not an image.
>>>Was the drive basic or dynamic?
Not sure what this means but made it a bootable drive. After creating it I made it #1 on the boot priority list, as an experiment and the system booted w/ no problem.
>>>Is NVraid SATA three and four disabled in the BIOS under NVRaid config?
No, all are enabled. Verified by the fact that NVRAID sees the disk
>>>In the MAIN BIOS window, do you see third master SATA?
I have to reboot and double check. I seem to recall that all the SATA MAsters were listed on that initial page. Also have to record some other items before I upload the 1007 BIOS (BTW, thx for the link, can't understand why i was having a problem w/ the download of 1007 yet no issues w/ old versions).

Hi, Thanks to you guys, my system is working great :-)

except for a couple of small details:
1) GPU temp registers approx 58c on startup (never been above about 72c even playing HL2) sits at around 68c when idle on NVMonitor.
2) It is very noisy !! (fan noise)
nTune says FAN SPEEDS
CPU 3308 RPM (off)
Auxilliary 8437 RPM (off)

I have Tsunami dream (clear side with fan)
3500 Athlon
XFX 6800GT
set up as per instructions (page 1)
not overclocked at all

Any advice would be appreciated on how to get GPU temp to read correctly (I assume it's reading +30c high) and how to safely quieten the system.
Thanks

Once again thank you sir. Worked fine after I disabled 3&4. I'm guessing that all the ports are active all the time but when you activate them in BIOS then the system expects you to put the drive in an array of some kind. Is that correct Mike or am I way off? Anyways, thanks for the help.

>If you have no intentions on using a port as RAID, it should be off in the RAID config or the disk will want to be a part of the RAID array. When you see the disk in the MAIN BIOS window you are seperating the disk from the RAID config system but are allowing for single disk use. Even if four disks are on the same RAID system (all black connectors) you will have individual control through windows, of SATA three and four (Disk Management etc.), and 1 and 2 will be RAID (your case).
So yes to your question.

>> A8N-SLI DLX - PRIME95 Problem! Please Help!

Alright, I am very annoyed at this point.

I have the following system:

Asus A8N-SLI DLX,
2 x MSI 6600GT's,
2 x 512mb 400MHZ [GBMicro],
WD 10kRPM 37GIG Harddrive,
Antex NeoPower480 PSU

I have peripherals such as DVDrom and DVDR-W, but they are not attached.

I have been trying to have a successful test with Prime95, I have tried the three different types, the Blend one causes my test to fail wtihin minutes of starting. I have only placed the single GT6600 for the purpose of weeding out the problem, and still have had failed tests. My version of Prime95 is 23.8.1.

I am going to try new Ram, but for some reason when I try to use a SINGLE DDR, in the first slot, the system will not boot. Anyone know why?

I have updated my bios to 1007 which is the newest release. Can anyone assist me?

p.d
