My problems with these boards have been huge.

I bought a regular A8n SLI and everything seemed in order except i could only use one RAM module, a common problem i know, and also MORE annoyingly it WONT detect any ide devices. Only SATA Hdds show up in the bios, this is having tried numerous dvd drives and hdd drives, with every jumper combination. I am RMAing this board and in the meantime i went and bought the Deluxe version of the board.

This wont even boot, everything comes on fans etc. But i get no video, and the corasir RAM with leds doesnt light up, no matter what way i configure it in the slots. It DID light up on the regular a8n SLI so i know that the RAM works. Anyone have any ideas before i set fire to the goddamn board.

This MOBO is driving me nuts,

I've just screwed the following system together. On first boot it went just fine, but than when I was in the BIOS, the system just hang. Rebooting didn't give me any signal on the VGA.

Waiting 15 minutes seem to help and I got in the BIOS again. Checked the CPU and MOBO temp, since that seemed to be a sensible thing to do. When I get in the CPU is like 26 degrees, and the system freezes when it reaches 30/31 degrees. But this isn't a really high temp right?

I know I have a low Wattage (380), but the ASUS site clearly says this should be enough for my specs, and can low wattage lead to a hanging system after 30 secs in the bios? I haven't even began installing on OS on this system since it seemed so instable.

Any suggestions anyone?

Well Mike I bet you thought I was all done bugging you huh?

"Well that's a good thing, I mean the BIOS changeover and extended mode both working.
I'm trying to find a fix for you, I guess I will need to get into my back of tricks pretty soon!"

Yes making progres, but not quite there yet. Felix open that bag of tricks! Im at a loss here.

">What motherboard BIOS are you using?"
The new 1007

">Are you using 6.39 nForce drivers? If so, or not so, uninstall and re-install all drivers and install this version.
>Out of extended mode swap your cards out first. When it comes time to reboot after the drivers uninstall, shutdown, then Clear CMOS again, get into BIOS, and reset basic settings, PCI-EX on in the BIOS, I'm sure you know.
>I have a couple of more things to try after this."

Well to try and get back to less confusion, I reimaged the system last night. I wanted to start over to double check my work. I knew that both cards now have the same bios, my MB is running the latest 1007 bios. I have all the right drivers as listed int he first post of this novel.

I reset the bios, set it back to the specified settings. Rebooted with XP cd in and formated the C drive. created a new partition and installed windows XP. Did SP2 update. Installed the nforce drivers, then installed the vid drivers. I go to the display props and to my amazement, the SLI option is still not present.

Maybe i need the latest gpu bios? I thnk I found a bios for my card, had to search google to find it. Its titled BFG.6600GT.OC.PCIe.128MB.Rev.02.rom dated 4/19/05 I can rename this to 8.3 standard and try it, but again Im leary of using an unknown bios on the card and jacking it up for good.

You mentioned you had more things to try? I am at a cleaner state than I was before. I wasnt sure of all the different drivers I had tested might have lost the SLI options. This time I used the 71.89 first, bypassed the BFG cd install.

Well I will see what you have to say now. I cannot say thank you enough for all this help! I do not meet many people who try any more.

You're welcome.

>give it a shot

Just make sure you have your backup and a PCI Slot video card in case.

Can you send me a snapshot of the SLI Multi GPU section, ?

2x512 , tried it in B1, no go, B2, no go
Havent even begun to try to get BOTH working seeing as one doesnt even work on its own
Must reiterate. The ram would work in the ordinary A8N SLI but only one DIMM.

In the Deluxe mobo it wont work at all, tried numerous manufacturers, Corsais XMS, Kingston etc

Getting very frustrated, thinking of going with DFI or something

I am not one to give up on a challenge, but I'm pretty sure your motherboard is defective, and
your video cards are fully functional. I don't suppose you can test them on another board at a dealer near you right? Well, I can almost assure you they will work in SLI.

Try going back to 1006.
Try the new video BIOS update first, if your cards still work on that new BIOS, keep that version and RMA your motherboard.

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
hi all im new on this board, but have been following it for awhile. i'll leave you my thoughts on this board maybee it might help out

i bought an an8-sli deluxe, leadtek 6600gt and 3500+ 90 nm about 6 weeks ago from monarch computer(they assembled processor and hsf to board, and updated bios to 1006). i then put that together in my previous system(specs below}. tried to boot up into an already exsisting installation of xp(found new hardware went on for about half an hour)so i reinstalled the os with latest drivers.

booted up ok worked for about a hour then bsod, reboot it work for awile bsod, reboot ntldr missing. wth? reinstall windows and it worked for a day, then no internet. tried 198.162.0.1 and got error- connection refused when attempting to connect. so i farted around with network card configuration under local area connections properties, but when i hit apply the power instantly died on the pc. thought maybe i had a power surge or something. but the same thing happened again on the next boot when i hit apply again. i then switched to the marvell lan and it worked for awhile. more bsod's locking up etc(chipset problem?). i turned off everything i didnt use in bios and reinstalled windows i didnt install the firewall(seems like that was causing the problem) and it lasted quite a bit longer used 1007-003 and it seemed happy for awhile, but still had problems files started missing from my boot drive and cd's i burned were corruped, then one day on bootup there was nothing there went into recovery mode of xp cd and the hd was empty(I\O problem too). i went through this for about another week before i rma'ed the board.

got the new board put in the release 1007 bios and installed xp and oe drivers, even the firewall. worked wonderfully for 4 days then i stared playing around with the chipset drivers trying to get best performance on the last reboot got a bsod then afterward the network cards wouldnt communicate with my dsl modem again.

then somthing came to mind, once in the past i had a A7N8X mobo and mandrake linux didnt want to install locked up during install something like tihs, so i then did some research on the net and found out you need to custom install it without acpi and apic with the switches -nolapic -noacpi because it had problems with nforce boards. so in bios i disabled apic and reinstalled windows and hit f5 to disable acpi(i woudnt boot after i disabled it) with 1008 beta bios oe chipset drivers and 71.84. its been 2 week now and im still running on it and happy with my rig.

i have a few questions to ponder though.
these boards, do the need a burn in? my first one seemed to get better and better as time went on.
does nvidia have issues with acpi on asus boards?
my old A7N8X deluxe had simalar problems with spread spectrum enabled, does this board have it too?

i've got a tip for video card bios backup if you dont have a spare pci card.make your bootable floppy put your origional bios on it and flash utility(nvflash). then in windows goto tools>folder options>view in explorer and uncheck hide proteced operating sysem files.

go back to a: in explorer and right click on autoexec.bat and edit. and there add a line nvflash {all of the force and ignore switches} -f (factory bios).rom then save. reboot computer with floppy in and test to see if it flashes automatically

Good idea, I'll give that a try soon.

>Spread spectrum varies the frequency of radio wave radiation eminating from your comp, it doesn't "help" your comp in any way, it prevents your comp from adversly effecting nearby devices
Only enable this if your comp is interfering w/ your monitor. etc.
Pretty sure I saw it in my BIOS under Frequency/volt or something, can't reboot right now and I don't have my manual on hand, sorry.

Welly Welly-
2 DIMMS need to be placed in A1+ B1 (the 2 blue slots) to work correctly. 1 DIMM only needs to go into B1 (blue slot furthest from the CPU) to work correctly. Make sure they are the same type, same CAS latency etc. Try that configuration and see if you get a proper boot up. Since you tried one DIMM only in B1 and didn't get a boot, and you are certain the DIMM is good, then maybe the board is bad. I'm assuming the BIOS was set correctly each time (200 for 1 DIMM and 400 for a DIMMin A1 and B1).

I am having a problem setting up my discs in Raid0 using NVRaid. The manual and every guide on the net (including this FAQ) says to hit F10 during POST, however I do not see an option to Hit F10 and when I hit it nothing happens.

The options I do get are DEL, F8 (boot), CTRL-S F4 (Silicon raid)

The BIOS has been updated to Rev-1007

System specs are as follows:

Athlon64 3500+
Asus A8N-SLI-DELUXE
1GB Corsair PRO TWINX XL
2xSeagate Barracuda 250GB 7200.8 SATA 150MBYTE/SEC 8mb Cache with NCQ

I have enabled Raid in the BIOS setup and enabled the two discs as per the manual and every setup guide I can find, I just cant get into NVRaid setup

is there something I have missed?

thanks in advance

Mike,

Good news! Once you said that the mobo might be defective, I started pulling the paperwork together to see how much time I had to RMA tha board, just in case these last efforts failed.

I pushed the new bios 0543024600.rom to both cards taking a gamble. The bios push went smothly on both cards. wheeewww. Rebooted the system, windows came up and all the nvidia driver info was lost. I had to run nforce install again, rebooted and ran the vid drivers again. BINGO! Windows chirped up saying SLI detected. I went and and sure enough the SLI-GPU option was back and reading like the first post said. I enabled and SLI is now functional!! HooRay!

Im about to finish building the image again on the pc. Once done Im ghosting it to an image file and holding on for safe keeping. I usually do this anyway, but with all the trouble this thing gave me, Im definatly creating this image.

Buddy, your prob tired of hearing this, but thank you! I would have never tried flashing the bios on a video card until you started helping me out. I have just never been one to try and tweak my systems or overclock. Id hate to loose the hardware. lol Listen, are you a cigar fan? Id like to repay you for all the help you have given! If not cigars, how about some Tejas hot sauce? lmao!!! I have learned quite a bit in the last few days playing with this stuff. I am a pretyt good tech for my employer, but now.... I have found an abundnace of knowledge here, I may be asking for a raise in the near future.

Thanks Mike!

Thanks for all the work you guys have put into this. It has been very informative, so far I have read through page 40, planning on reading the whole thing before I try to start up my system. I need to get a floppy drive too, was not going to put one in this box.
I just have a quick question about the initial setup recommendations on page 1.
When flashing the bios to ver 1007, should I only have one video card in the mobo even if I plan to use two? ( I have two cards)

Here is what I have
Themaltake Purepower 560W
AMD 3500+
Arctic Cooling AC Freezer 64 heat sink
2 - ASUS EN6600GT
2 sticks of Geil 1GB PC-3200
Arctic Cooling AC Freezer 64 heat sink
CoolerMaster Praetorian case
Thanks again!
