Hmm I never paid attention to the sound of the game after the monitor turns off... Well I will do that after I format my system... I'm just making sure its a complete clean... if the problem persist then it must be hardware related and not software of course. I'll get back on this.

My monitor is a Mitsibishi Diamond View 17" CRT monitor. It can't be the monitor because I had used it with my old system and it doesnt give this behaviour, it might be the video card but I don't want to bet on that because it is expensive to replace than even a power supply. yikes. Well actually it comes with a warrenty if only I know for sure it was doing this... alas i dont have a spare E-PCI video card laying around!

Hi,

I've had a quick look but couldn't find any answers to my two questions

Question 1
I have 2gb of PC3200 RAM installed, the problem is, it is incorrectly being identified as PC2700 if I select auto in the BIOS. However I can set it to PC3200 manually. Does anybody know why this is? Is it 'cos i'm using cheapo RAM? :)

Qusetion 2
I am unable to install to drivers for the onboard FireWire. When I attempt to install the drivers from the mobo installation CD I get:

" There was a problem installing this hardware:
Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
An error occured during the installation of the device
The data was invalid"

There doesn't seem to be any updates on the crappy Asus website. have had this problem since I first purchased the mobo. I have reinstalled windows and tried several BIOS updates but nothing has helped.

OK. I have to go but just make sure you have all the right connections for the monitor in question and you haven't set the resolution to high (most LCD's are limited to well below 1600x1200). Good luck

EDIT: Sounds like the card. Possibly a driver issue which the reinstall should solve. You do have it in the proper slot (Blue closest one to the CPU) and power applied to the card itself, right (6600GT requires a 4pin molex power connection)? Can you plug it into a buddies' PCIe and see if it works? Maybe a nearby PC store will let you test it.

Thanks Dave Kelsan but I'm not sure if I was clear enough.

I ordered the A8N-SLI deluxe MoBo about 3-4 weeks ago from Newegg. I'm thinking that the BIOS is version 1002 but I'm not sure. (As I dont have it hooked up yet) I know the Winchester core will work with that BIOS. What I want to know is if it is verison 1002 and I throw a Venice core on it what will happen? Will I be able to update the BIOS to 1006 or greater that the new cores need to work or will it not work and I'll be SOL.

Or should I just go ahead and just get the Winchester core and avoid the headache of trying to get it to work.

I want to order the CPU today anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

Well, when I set up the system I remember reading the manual that the molex connector is only required when using 2 GPU in SLI mode. I am only using 1 in single mode. Is it necessary in single mode? Well, I will try it out and see if thats the case... I really hope it so.

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
I formatted my system, re-installed drivers, the sims 2 to test it out. Same problem.

I turned system off, plugged in the 4 power molex still the same problem.

I'm leaning towards the power supply. But it could be the video card... So I can't risk buying a new component until I'm sure of what is causing this problem.

Oh yes, it turns out that when the monitor goes to sleep, the sound also stops after about 5 sec thereafter. Anyhow, I think my computer does crash because the fans are running but nothing seems to be working. I gather this from my RAM's activity light which is usually blinking even when I idle on the desktop. Do you think this is because the motherboard is not getting the right juices, or enough of it, from the power supply?

Just use the ASUS windows BIOS upgrade utility. Very simple and easy to use. Get to the latest version then get whatever CPU you want :)

Jason,
Just guessing at your problem but you have 2 different makes of ram which may have different Cas ratings which will cause problems. I would put in just 1 gig and test. Then change to the other to see which one is causing it to default to 333 mzh,

Hi. I made a post on page 155. My pc has started to seem like it is running really slow again. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Are there any tools or programs I can try , to see if my pc is running properly, or to aid in troubleshooting my problem?

Thanks

hmm i`m new here.. and hi everyone..
hmm here`s my rig..

asus a8n sli deluxe | amd64 3000+ winchester | BIG 6600 gt DDR3 | Colorsit 450 watts psu | 160 gb seagate sata Hard disk | 160 gb seagate pata hard disk | 80 gb usB hard disk | 2*512 transcend 2.5-3-3-3 | sony cd-rw |
Samsung synmaster 793 MB |

hmmm my rig is up and running perfectly.. except a few glitches with the sata/pata hard disk setups... hmm
i got winxp sp2 installed.... with 76.45 forceware drivers. and i still have to install nforce 4 6.xx drivers...
hmm i got a few concerns and doubts though..

1) please take a look at my power supply ratings cause i don`t know what to make of it...
+3.3V - 18a, +5v - 30A, +12v - 19a, -5v 0.5a, -12V - 0.8A, +5VSB(what`s this) 2A

are these good enough to run my present rig( i`m only running one card at the moment).. also i would be getting a dvd writer next week .. so including the writer is this power supply sufficient enough..
i`m not having any problems as of now but i wanted to make sure if the power supply is good enough for the rig..or should i upgrade.
i want to make sure its good as i want to overclock and do`nt wanna get stuck later on cause my psu was faulty..

2) it gets very hot in my region ( i live in india) .. so the cpu temps (idle) are around 42C and mobo at 50C.. this is with the case closed.. now with the left side panel(the panel right opposite the cpu) removed the temps drop to cpu(idle) - 37c and mobo (idle) - 39c!!!!!! nearly 10 degrees less!!
hmmm but i can`t keep my case open cause of the dust due to the construction work going on nearby..
i already have a cabbby fan.. gonna get another one tomm to be put in the front..
now i also have 4 80 mm fans. which i wana use. to keep my case coool without keeping it coool..
i needed advice on how i can arange the fans on my cabinet...
lik i already have the cpu fan, and 2* 80mm cabinet fans ok..
and now i have 4 extra 80 mm fans too..
i was thinking of cuting 3 maybe 4 spots for my 80 mm fan.. a above the graphic card (for the cpu and memory) and 2 below the card ( for the card and the darn chipset)
hmm but there is this place empty right next to the bottom right side of the motherboard (on the right side-panel) near the hard disk racks?? i can put in a 80 mm fan there too... but its partially blocked...1 cm is blocked.. .. so should i put in 1 fan there???
like that would be either
4 fans on the left side panel... 1 fan in the front. and one fan next to the prcy below the PSU.. OR
3 fans on the left side panel and one on the bottom part of the right side panel. along with 1 fan in the front. and one fan next to the prcy below the PSU.
i couldn`t find a solution anywhere so i posted here...

i really want this cooling cause i know after a few days its goonna be wicked hot.. and the temps would be easily reaching 55-60 on full which is what i don`t want...
and i can't buy a watercooling kit here cause i got no more money left.. + the ones that are available cost more than the mobo!!!!

btw i have updated my bios to 1010.. and today there was a 1011.002 release available too through the asus update.. hmmm.. the thing told me that it was a "final release = beta version".. now what does that mean???

thank you...

Murphy's Law.....

Finally got my PC update with nVida drivers bios (1007) from SLI FAQ, and set my restore point at 1 VGA no SLI settings yet.

So when I did manually switch to dual, BIOS setting to SLI: DUAL, saved and exit. The pop window that lets you know you can set multi-VGA...NOT THERE. So I thought it was the driver/BIOS not clicking together. Couple of restarts, no change. Uninstalled all drivers, and re-installed the drivers that came with the VGA then restarted. Double check the BIOS, then installed the UPDATED drivers and there it is. But my setting was at 1280x960. So I thought it was a simple slide the slider set up and the pc would let me know if I like this newer setting. GUESS AGAIN. Monitor was blank for more than 5-10 seconds. Restarted. Setting now fixed at 1024x768. Fine. But when I change something in the "Performance and Quality" settings, it went blank again.
Then it started raining on me.
Can't get online, IE6 wont connect, so is Mozilla, ZoneAlarm started conflicting with nVidia Firewall (which I uninstalled...but thats another forum)----let stick witht the Display going blank.

Went and uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the driver from the VGA, reinstalled the 6.53 drivers and 71.89
and now I'm at 1280x1024, but check this out...in the display option, i have FOUR MONITORS. Yeah I wish!
How do I make this into only one monitor?

finally got one monitor on (accdg to settings--weird), I ran Aquamark3, and got 1,500 more points---57,xxx-ish, but I didn't see it go thru its paces. The screen went blank, I made a sandwich and check for any response. I turned around and there's the score.
Anyone else went thru this?
