Ok I've decided to get a new power supply. But just a few questions.

I have no clue at what the specs of each power supplies means. What is EPS12, ATX 1.3, ATX12V, and ATX 2.01?

I know ATX, and ATX 2.0 is the 20 and 24 pins respectively. Is there a difference with ATX and ATX 1.3, as well as a difference with ATX 2.0 and ATX 2.01? And EPS12 and ATX12V?

Some power supplies says it is ATX 1.3 but claims that it is 24 pins... Now I'm confused!

Besides that I am leaning towards this power supply. It is ATX but comes with an extra 4 pin.
http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/taganixeye/ixeye_3.htm

At the start of this thread, the recommended power supply was Tagan 480W with the standard 24 pin. Is the 420W with 20+4 pins recommended?

@ Chris Thanks
BTW, weird thing about this, I decided to take a break and play "Doom3" at Highest Setting, and finally I see the details that making everyone one going "OOOhhhh....aaaHHH." I can see why. This SLI setting is the bomb! Now if I could only see the 3DMark (03-05) Demos. Grrrr.

@Heng, I took the easy route and bit my credit card. I got the Silverstone Zues 650 SLI-Ready. No problems so far, and it was easier to manage the wires. I will update more pictures in this gallery: http://www.pbase.com/raygan/networking. The black PC is the SLI set up.
I also went that route because of the number of ppl having to RMA PSU they thought that could handle it.
Good luck.

I tried now three times to reinstall my windows XP and it just keeps coming.

My specs are the following:

It all seems to be working just fine, only when I game I get the message.

Sry not replied for while, RMA'ed my cards as the serial no. on the cards were very different, got the new cards but still have the same problem.

Merc, I got the history graph for the voltages. 3DMark 2005 actually managed to do all the tests without crashing so I guess the new cards helped a little but I still can't able SLI with nvidia's new driver (71.89). The Sparkle drivers are based on 66.74.
With 3D Mark 2005 running:
+12V: Drops to a min of 11.584V.
+5V: Drops to min of 4.999V
3.3V: 3.312V
VCore: 1.472 min.

http://www.skytech.plus.com/voltage_history.bmp

Please help:)
EDIT - (Just ran 3DMark 2005 for a second time and it didn't crash again, the new cards may have solved the stablility problems if not the problem of enabling SLI with new drivers)

Hey Mike,

Just to let you know the PC ran all night (6 hrs) with Prime95 in Torture Test (256MB RAM made available) and no issues! (Audigy in PCI1, RAM in A1 and B1, internet connected via Marvell). This morning I loaded up Diskeeper and ran a few defrags - no problems.

I left it running Prime95 with IE open when I left for work this morning - no problems so far when I phoned home! (6.5 hrs)

I managed to get a Radeon 7000 PCI card, so we should be good to continue tonight if you're game.

Cheers,

Iain

Audigy 2 EAX issue conflicts with SW IDE RAID. This is a brand new system - just built last night. I followed the Build guide here (disabled onboard sound, etc).

Here is my system:
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 -got this from a buddy ;)
2x1024 Corsair DDR PC3200
2x WD Raptor 74GB 10K (raid 0) - nVidia RAID
1x ASUS 6800GT
Plextor 716A IDE
Audigy 2 EAX (currently in PCI-2)

I sometimes get a warning during Windows startup that indicated I may have a conflict with the RIAD controller and the Audigy card. I have to use nForce's SW IDE drivers, which have been know to be biggy in the past on older nForce chipsets.

Is this HW setup solid? Suggestions with Audigy settings, PCI slot placement, etc?

Been running my sytem without issue since the mobo came out. Flipped for a new CPU and new RAM which came in today.
The new AMD 64 3700+ San Diego works great (BIOS 1011) but the ASUS APPROVED Transcend 1Gig x 2 sticks of RAM cause an every 3 second BEEP when I install them. I've tried both the "Blue" and "Black" slot pairs.
WTH???!!!!!!?????!!!!!!!
I made sure it was ASUS approved and still no love!
Again I reset the RAM and when I put in the "old" ram it boots fine.

EDIT**** Installing OS now but remembered I didn't change the CAS settings from 222 to 333 so this may be, as most things, end user error! :)

Hey again!

As i told a few pages ago, i was able to get the system to boot. (pesky PSU's fault) Installed windows and other programs without difficulty, but....

NO SOUND! ;.;

I read in advice to another:

>>>Try this. Remove all loads from sound ports, go to BIOS and disable AC audio, F10, boot into windows, Reg Clean. Shutdown, power down, clear CMOS, reset and enable AC audio then boot into windows.
Done... no effect...

>>>Try uninstalling and installing drivers in safe mode under full Administrative rights not your account.
>>>I think you're using the sound effects manager in the control panel, perform tests there.
>>>Make sure every single volume control is activated in the Sounds and audio devices > volume tab > Advanced >Options > Properties > Playback and Recording with Realtek Mixer
Already tried these...

Anymore ideas? thanks.. and thanks again for maintaining this forum.

Just want to thank Merc and Mike, Mr Sander for this great forum. I finally figured out my blank monitor problem after enabling the SLI.
WRONG DRIVER! For some reason I kept getting this NV4 driver---that kept giving me 4 monitors on the display settings. I searched for the MSI brand driver installed that, then updated the nVidia drivers from the SLI FAQ, and Chris (thanks also) for posting the newer BIOS 1011. My PC is up and running.
http://www.pbase.com/raygan/image/44565402 and next page of this site shows the different scores I got. To be honest I dont know what these numbers are, I was just happy to see my monitor show me those cool 3DMark03-05 DEMOS. But if you look at the dates on the pics, there are changes on the score from a single VGA to a SLI mode.

From ppl like me who gain sooo much from this forum, THANK YOU. And good luck to others. I'll still stop by for some updates.

Nishant-
You have to reset the boot order in BIOS after an update. Under boot there is a setting for which hard drive to boot from first. So set boot order to Hard Drive/CDROM/Removable and set Drive boot order to your OS drive first and your PATA drive second. Save and exit and you should be OK.

Adam Rodgers-
The voltages you showed are within spec but the VCore is really low and the 12 volt is a little low. If you have Cool & Quiet enabled then disable it. Also, check your SLI settings in BIOS and make sure that you have everything enabled that should be enabled. Did you select "Enable SLI Multi-GPU" on the Nvidia utility screen?

Merc,
I'm fairly sure I have Cool 'n' Quiet disabled but I'll double check when I get home (at work at the mo).
I have to admit I don't know what the different voltages effect, would taking out the sound card, tv card, and dvd rom help to see if its a lack of power causing the problem?

In the bios I have the SLI mode set to Dual Cards, is there anything else in the bios that needs to be change?

Used display properities->advance->NVidia screen and selected "Enable SLI Multi-GPU". WIndows asked for a restart and afterwards got a popup msg saying the I was using SLI Multi-GPU.

Could a faulty SLI bridge cause the newer NVidia drivers not being able to use SLI but let the older Sparkle drivers use SLI?

On a side note, my chipset fan has started to fail aswell:(

Adam-
Then it sounds like you are running in SLI. What makes you think that it isn't in SLI? You can select "Show load balancing" in the Nvidia utility and then run a Directx or OpenGL game and it will graphically show you how it is balancing the two cards.

Kevin Estes posted a cheap and easy fix for the chipset fan on 147 or Asus will send you a new one that is supposedly better.

Merc,
Sorry guess I've not been clear (a very common problem I have:) ).
The voltages I've been quoting was while using the 66.93 drivers (I'm not sure if this is the exact version, working from memory).
The problem is that these are the only drivers I've found that will let me use SLI are are the drivers found on the cd that came with the cards, if I upgrade to 71.89 for instance the option to enable SLI doesn't appear.
One thing I just thought of, while I have upgraded the motherboard bios (to 1010) I don't think I have upgrade the NForce4 chipset drivers (if you even can:) ).

Adam-
Sorry. Now I understand. Possibly it has something to do with those particular cards. Have you contacted the manufacturers tech support? And yes you can update the Nforce 4 drivers at http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp2k_6.53

Latest version is 6.53. Give it a shot and maybe it will help. Also, I have found that when you start changing drivers a lot there seems to be a build up of leftover driver clutter that starts doing weird things to your system. If you use Driver Cleaner Pro it will help clear all that stuff out (It's a free utility, just google for the site) and clear up some odd system bugs at the same time.
