Eric-
Not sure what is causing that but it sounds like some kind of software corruption. Try the following if it is driving you nuts enough:

1. Download DriverCleaner Pro (google it).
2. Remove all the Nvidia drivers except SATA/RAID.
3. After reading the instructions that come with it, run DriverCleaner which will sweep away a lot of clutter that has built uip with the driver dance you have been forced into.
4. Reload all the drivers starting with the latest Nforce and then the latest Nview

Please let us know if the above helps.

You need at least BIOS 1011 to run that hot X2 chip of yours. Check out the Asus web site. The X2 was not supported at 1008.

Thanks for replying!

Note that I don't have the deluxe version, for which the last bios is 1011, but the "regular" version, for which the last bios is 1008 (sorry for the confusion, I'm aware this is a deluxe faq, but obviously the 2 versions have a lot in common ;) ).

Even if any other bios version, or even a new download of the same, would help, how would I flash it...? The system "hangs" during or even before post, without showing anything on the display :( .

I read that with some 939 sockets you have to have a single core in the socket, then flash the dual core BIOS and after everything is set install the dual core CPU. Check Anandtech at http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2457
for a thorough explanation. He also talks about what boards can handle dual core and the new memory controller still not handling 4 dual sided dimms at 1T timings.

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ

I just joined the community after having a few issues with this motherboard. Over the last few years I have built several Abit RAID 0+1 systems, so I am familiar with some of the more common issues. Everything was going along fine for the first few days as a 0+1 RAID configuration.I had a functioning computer. The only bug I had is that the NV firewall would not allow me to connect to the internet through a Netgear wireless router.so i bypassed it. Otherwise all was going along perfectly.
The problems started with the flashing of the bios from 1006 to 1008.It seemed to have more than just disabled the NV RAID controller. After setting the 1008 bios to the settings I had used with the 1006 bios, the system would not or could not find the array and froze at that point.
I hooked up one HD, reset the cmos, and turned off the NV RAID controller to be able to boot, download and flash bios 1011. I still can't get more than a "searching for array" and a freeze out of the system currently when I try to reconfigure it for RAID 0+1.
The original configuration was a CM Stacker,Mad Dog Sure Power 600w power supply, A8N-SLI,San Diego 3700+,2x512 Mushkin DDR2700, 2 EVGA 6600GT's, Zalman CNPS-7000AlCu, Cooler Master scrolling case/motherboard cooling fan, and 4 Hitachi 80GB SATA II HD's in one 4in3 module.
The current configuration swapped 2x512 OCZ ELPS DDR600 for the Mushkin ram, added 3 more 80mm case fans, & one more 4in3 module to split up the 4 HD's for better cooling.
The problems started during the previous configuration. The current configuration has not yet run.
I can turn off the NV RAID controller which allows XP to start to install. I can F6 to load the two NV drivers off of a floppy.I get to the point where it recognizes that there are four HD's, but it asks which one of the four I would like to install XP on.
I would like to turn the NV controller back on and be asked to create an array to install XP onto. Any suggestions?

To follow up...

I got my FDD today and put together my first PC build. Followed all the directions generously given on this board and, to my pleasant surprise, everything seemed to work perfectly. Updated BIOS to 1011, set all the settings as per Sander and Merc's suggestions. BIOS recognized my dual core processor no problems. And my 2GIG RAM no problems.

Merc, my only goof, somehow I can only see one of my SATA drives in windows. BIOS sees both on Sata 1 Master and Sata 2 Master. And if I look in "Safely Remove Hardware" I see the two drives.

Guess I've done something wrong with my settings - never dealt with serial drives before. I dont' want to RAID them, just have a C and a D drive (so I can clone C to D on a scheduled basis as a backup).

Oveall, good news I would say - everything seemed to work as it should.

Rob.

Do you have a floppy, CD ROM or hard drive hooked up? If it is the floppy is the light on continuously? If so flip the cable around at the drive end. If another drive unplug it and reboot.

>>>Possibly the router has a firewall too which would conflict with your mobo router.

I think that is the case;however,if I use the Zone Alarm Security Suite software firewall everything works fine through the router.I forgot to mention that previously.

>>>Did you go back into BIOS and disable SIL RAID, enable NV RAID and then enable the 4 ports that you were using for the 0+1? Flashing the BIOS reset everything to enabled with the individual SATA Masters disabled so the system couldn't find the array until it was enabled again.

Yes I did.Only the four Sata masters are enabled.

I can't get to the F10 prompt. The only one I can get to is the setup prompt.I even tried F10 w/o a prompt and it gets back to the screen where it's searching for the array again.

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
Hey guys i know this has been probably talked about but i cant find it in here. Its all similar problems but none exactly....mine.

This is my set up.

500watt super flower power supply
A8N SLI DELUXE mobo
2x 256mb RAM
1x 120gb Seagate hard-drive (not in because i can add it after i fix my problems :'-( )
1x 60gb WD harddrive
AMD 3500+ CPU
Geforce 6600 GT graphics card
Wireless Network card
Pioneer (I think) DVD RW+- Dual Layer

Now i've set it up like i have all my pc's and i turned it on and
then i boot straight from my windows XP cd (is this ok???)
It goes into system setup and finishes that
Then it formats it and i format it with NTFS.
It finishes the format but when it finishes it comes up with a blue screen saying
disk damaged or xp cant be installed on that partition etc...
I dont think the harddrive is damaged because i put in my old pc's harddrive
with XP PRO on it and it still didnt work... :'( It just hanged.

I've tried now with all three of my harddrives and nothing is working
I followed a guide from one of the posts on this site for setting up the bios
and it still didnt work.
Also every now and then i get a NTLDR is Missing message.
I've read the above posts about this and ive figured that its spose to be a problem with an installed
OS. I dont have an installed opersting system... I freaking wish i did though!!!
I dont want to overclock i just want to play my battlefield two game!!! :'-( :'-( :'-(
If anyone out there could help me it would be extremely appreciated.
This is my first computer that i have owned and not had to share with family etc.
and yeah plz help me get my pc goping :(
Thankyou very much in advance!!!

Try to boot with just the 1 DIMM in B1, video card and mobo/cpu hooked up. Disconnect EVERYTHING else. Be sure that the 4 pin P4 power (just above CPU) is securely plugged in, the 24 pin power is plugged in and the graphcs card power is securely pluged in.

Kapul-
I would suspect that the 60GB hard drive is bad or not compatible in some way. The other two drives have an operating system installed on them and are configured for another mobo/chipset. XP does not like being moved to another mobo, which is, in effect, what you are attempting. It usually just blue screens on you. Moving a drive to a new mobo normally requires a complete install of XP.

You have two choices, get a new SATA harddrive and install xp to it or take the hard drive from one of your other systems and completely reformat it and then do a new install of XP. You can get a Western Digital 80GB hard drive with 8mb buffer for under $60 here in the US and 120GB for under $90. You'll appreciate the speed. Then all you'll have to bitch about is the lousy ranked servers BF2 is using. Stutter stutter freeze. What a PITA. LOL

So I'm now up and running - and I'll give things a good while before I go tampering.

Now, not that I'm looking for trouble, but, what is likely to happen if I go enabling some of those cool sounding things that Asus advertises for this board? Like Cool'n'Quite, Nos, AI boost, etc?

Should these be permanently and forever disabled in order to run this board or can they be "tested" to see if they cause crashes, BSOD, and other missbehaviors?

Just curious!

They run fine, it's just that they are either useless (cool & Quiet) or you can do better by changing things in the BIOS yourself.

Asus Probe is kinda neat, but MBM5 beats the heck out of it.

Take a look at tying MBM5 to ShutDownNow. Shut down/Hybernate on fan speed changes, and/or CPU, MOBO, or case temps.
