My CPU is running at 34c idle. The 6800gt is running at 56c idle. Hopefully when I get the NV silencer added it will pull the graphics heat out the back and lower the chipset temps a little and if not I will add water to the whole thing and be done with it. It seems like a design flaw that they put the chipset in that location. I mean I know its crowded on boards these days but come on right next to and under the hottest part in the comp. Any suggestins on water cooling kits.

I was thinking of getting one of these http://www.coolerguys.com/koolancecases.html but wife said negative. LOL Your temps are really low, I'm wondering if the sensor on the chipset is bad because there is nothing to indicate a problem except that one sensor.

You might be right. I touched the fan housing on the chipset and it was a little warm but that was about it. This thing is only about 2 weeks old do you think a bad sensor there deems me to send it back for another? That sure is a lot of hastle for a sensor, but I did pay for a fully functional board. What do you think? Also I cant seem to get the memory timings to run at 1T. It will only run stabe at 2T although it will boot and even run aquamark with the settings at 1T. It will not past memtest though. What can you tell me about that? Thank you for your help so far also. I am a member at another forum also and they have started the country bashing over there and I cant handle that stuff. I want to talk computers, not I hate Americans and your country is so screwed up. I realize people have opinions but dang it was a computer hardware forum. Anyway thanks for the help. I have quit a bit of experience with these machines and like to help others myself.

How much RAM are you running? I have 2 x 1024MB (2 DIMMs) of the same RAM as yours. Right now I am running it at 2/3/3/6 1T 2.7 volts. Ran memtest for about 3 hours today while at the gym and no errors. Try those timings. Are you running more tha 2 DIMMs? If so you'll have problems running at anything less than 2T.

The best I can do is 2.5 3 3 6 2t @2.95v, and I have it running at 400mhz......do you think I need to change that? I dont know whats holding me back but I think it should do better than that. I had this same ram in my Abit IC7-G and could push it pretty far, but no luck with it on this board. This thing is starting to lose browny points real fast. I say that but it is still a pretty fast system. Oh yeah and whats up with the grammer in the Bios? That is some funny stuff.

Merc,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd like to try some things and consider some other options before taking pieces of the board apart and resetting bios, etc. I really don't think the audigy is the problem as it is not sharing any IRQ with any other devices. The problem seems to only occur after I play a game or the system has been running for over an hour - the ping just, dies.

Any other suggestions would be great - a friend fixed his problem by using another nic. I then asked him to switch back to onboard and he's running perfectly fine. As far as I know we have the exact same bios settings so something's defnitely up.

I ran ClockGen and found my PCI speed was 33.58 - I tried manually to change it to 33.33 but it only allows 33.30 and I have a feeling this is causing the problems. At the moment it's at 33.30. After installing nTune I was told to somehow 'detach' the pci speed from other speed components such as cpu which are, at the moment, all tied together. This probably isn't a good idea, though, is it?

Also I seem to be missing an IRQ element that my friend has - something about an nVidia PCI controller? Could mine just be labelled differently?

I'd just like to exhaust all my options before taking everything apart again.

Thanks :)

Warren

Warren:

You need to detach the PCI clock from the CPU to overclock. The setting is in the jumper free settings section of BIOS, and gives a choice of PCI Clock 'To CPU or 33Mhz' to overclock you should set to 33Mhz or you will lose the integrity of signal link to the PCI express graphics card. Also, If you have installed an audigy soundcard you need to run the utility on creatives website that they provide to fix 'autorun' issues after installing an audigy soundcard. Then reinstall any drivers that you had installed after you installed the audigy soundcard.

Dave:

I'm updating the audigy software right now and then I'll reinstall my graphic drivers and the nvidia chipset drivers (6.66) too.

I'm not trying to overclock at all - I'm merely trying to fix my onboard network problem - I'm getting negative pings when pinging localhost and this typically occurs after using the graphics card (i.e. playing a game) or after the pc has been operational for an hour or more after a fresh reboot.

It's getting pretty frustrating going linkdead in games and such and losing bits and pieces of random connectivity. My PCI speed in bios is set to 33.33 at the moment, but ClockGen gives me a readout of 33.30 - I'm wondering if it's making a big difference?

I'll let you know if the problems continue after reinstalling these drivers.

Thanks,

Warren

Couldn't find any 'autorun' fix utility on the creative site, but I ran their autoupdate program and got the latest drivers. Installed.

Reinstalled the 6.66 nv drivers.

Reset my clock to auto and then again to 33.33 in bios to be sure.

Logged into a game, ran around for about 5 minutes and I start getting this:

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=-1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=-1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=-1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=-1ms TTL=128

And it's only a matter of time before I go linkdead and/or crash.

:(

Running out of ideas.

Warren,

The name of the utility is Creative Disc Detector Patch (76.25 KB) I had problems getting good installs on drivers until I used this. As far as the issue with NV lan, you should use LAN Port 2 which is supported by the Marvell driver (see manual) and use PCi Slot 3 (the one nearest the edge of the board) for the soundcard. Then
after this is setup, go to the system device manager and view resources by connection, and see if any IRQ's are shared. The NV Lan port shares a lot with other devices in the system, so this may give you a problem.

I've tried this all before with the marvell lan port... I was advised to use the NV one as it is (apparently?) built into the chipset as opposed to an add-on... or something?

Still the same problems - strange pings. There are no IRQ 'conflicts', though 2 IRQs are shared:

(18) Video card AND firewire (and firewire is enabled)
(21) NV sata controller AND standard enhanced pci to usb host controller

Doesn't seem like this would make my ping weird?

Every other item is on its own (including the audigy).

Ideas?

Warren,

OK, but I still think the NV LAN port shares an Interupt Pin with the Video Card and the Firewire. Perhaps you can disable the firewire, also, are you using the NVidia Firewall? I seem to be having good luck with it. (But Im running a wireless USB network adapter with both LAN's disabled.

I was advised not to install nVidia firewall... not sure it's necessary, but I could try it I guess.

I'll try the Marvell lan port again as well.

I'm starting to think it's a minor setting in bios. I'll have to try duplicate exactly a working structure...

This seems to be purely a pci-bus overload or breakdown issue. It's so strange.

I'll keep on it.

Ok now I've switched to the Marvell port and it has the same IRQ (17) as the audigy... uh oh.

It has the latest drivers.

I'm tempted to uninstall the audigy and leave it out but what a waste :(

Back to the NV lan port.

I reflashed my bios and redid my settings.

It seems my PCI bus is 'too fast' and causing these negative pings - I dunno.

Any new ideas or extra help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Is your Audigy Card in PCI slot 2? Center slot? If it is, move it to PCI slot three and and there wont be a shared IRQ with the Marvell LAN. BTW if you are online, you can ping me on MSN Messenger or Yahoo messenger right now, we can see if we can figure this out. You know, I hate to get beat by hardware....

I added you on msn - wazz_b@hotmail.com

Sorry I only checked this again and I think I may've been a bit late.

I'm not sure an IRQ problem is actually at the heart of the issue, however.

My audigy is currently, I think, in slot 2 (2nd from the bottom if viewing the case from the back)... I'm also back on the NV lan now.

We'll discuss on msn whenever you're around :) Thanks Dave.

Cheers,

Warren

That just isn't right. I have the exact same RAM and it runs at 2/3/3/6 1T 400DDR (reset CAS from 2.5 to 2 yesterday). My voltage is only 2.7. I think your overclock on the CPU is causing some stability problems and this isn't a RAM issue at all. You should be able to run the numbers you put in your post at 1T with no problems at all.
