Yep you were right, I backed my overclock back a little and everything is working like you said. I havent worked my voltage all the way back yet but I am passing memtest with 2 3 3 6 1T @ 2.8volts. I cut the processor back to 2.35 and that fixed the problem. This is my first AMD chip and the process is a little different for overclocking so I just need to slow down a little. Also do you know what kind of chips are on our Ram? Just curious!

Hey, I just got my rig together using the following
amd fx 53
a8n sli dlx
2 gigs twinx corsair xms
250 IDE seagate HD
antec truepower 2.0 550w
2x BFG 7800's SLI

and when I try and boot it up with either a CD or a floppy, it always takes me to a black screen that talks about my pci device listing as well as assorted other information about the system. How can I get past this so i can update the bios and install my OS?

Tristan-
It sounds like you are in either BIOS (that may be the initial BIOS screen) or the initial POST screen. When the system is first coming on line. hit the Delete key to enter BIOS You can navigate via the arrow keys and enter key. To boot from the XP CD you need to set boot order to CDROM / Removable / Hard Drive. Watch out for that PSU, see article at

Russel - What BIOS are you using? BF2 has very long load times but 2+ minutes is a little lengthy. Are you running a RAID array?

Russell-
I would guess that loading from a single disk 2 minute load times are probably the norm for BF2. Lot's of complaints regarding this in the BF2 forums and elsewhere.

As for the more serious problem, the bluescreens at startup, my first guess is that your PSU is getting maxed out when all the drives and CPU/GPU are spun up and demanding max power. I would recommend that you disconnect (both power and data) from the CDROM/DVDROM, Floppy, one of the hard drives and anything else you can start-up without and see if that alleviates the problem. If it does you'll need to get a beefier PSU. If no change, post back here and we can do some more in-depth troubleshooting. Good luck.

PS Make sure the PC is unplugged from the wall when you do this. LOL

I hate to say it but I'd start with that audigy and work from there.

Do you think moving the audigy from pci slot 2 to 3 will make any difference? I'd hate to have to take it out completely.

I guess that's my last go at it really before I seriously consider changing boards :(

I know this is just a little off topic but it will really speed up the load times for BF2
The movies are located in C:Program Files\Battlefield2\mods\bf2Movies

Here's the list to remove and it loads right to the game screen:
dice.bik
EA.bik
legal.blk
Intro.blk
welcome.blk

Only two are required:

menuloggedin.blk
menu.blk

Happy Gaming!

I would also update that video driver to 77.50. BF2 is shipped with it and so far in my testing it is the best for that game. I have no where near 2 min load times so theres a problem somewhere. Could be your RAM.

I would remove the audigy completely, along with its drivers and see if that stabilizes the mobo.

I added the NV Silencer and man that made a world of difference. My chipset temps went down from 52c to 36c and my cpu temp went down 5 degrees. This on top of the 11 degree drop on the video card. Its also a lot less noisy than the stock cooler. I am super pleased with this product. Thanks for recommending!
