Sorry I should have made myself more clearer in my post.

I only get the Blue Screen about 5 seconds after clicking either restart or shut down. From what i can tell it doesn't even begin to close down any apps, it just sits there then Bam ! Blue Screen.

No problems with startup.

On my system it is 1 minute load time from clicking on the server to playing the game. Also, yes the guys are right, you absolutely need to use the newer drivers or the game will play horribly It comes with 77.30 but Nvidia has 77.72 on the website.

On the blue screen thing, try my suggestion anyways and see if it helps (easy to do and free to try so why not).

I had some previous problems which seemed to be resolved. Now new ones have arisen. First I had some ram burn on me when I first built the system 5 days ago have since replaced and was able to be running a dual boot xp pro and xp64. Now when I tried to boot to xp64 it says a file is missing and I am reinstalling the os it makes various levels of progress before the computer will just reboot and start over ( it is more like it loses power instantly then starts over.) I tried taking out one of the pieces of ram which helped before on a different problem, not this time.
x2 4200
1gb ocz 3200
gigabyte 7800 gtx
ocz modstream 520
After numerous attempts and fails to get x64 reinstalled i gave up.
It will boot into xp so I have no clue

Wayne-
Did you determine the cause of the problem with the first set of RAM? If the board is smoke checking RAM I'd be a little hesitant to plug more in.

OK,

I've flashed to BIOS version 1013-002 - the latest one from asus.com

I reinstalled all my drivers, disabled the audigy, etc, etc.

I am STILL getting negative pings in games (to localhost and consequently the rest of the network) or after the pc's been up and running for a while. It appears to be fairly random, too.

I have no idea what to do - I am seriously out of ideas. I really don't think it's the audigy but I'm gonna try removing it completely to putting it in the 3rd PCI slot and seeing if that makes any difference at all.

Any help would be appreciated guys.

Thanks.

Warren

Merc,
I am fairly sure it was the one burned ram, because the system seems to fine running jus xp pro right now it just wont let me install the x64, which seems strange. It was installed and working.

merc:

I have been having a couple of problems that maybe you could help me with:

1: My modem, in PCI slot 3, won't be recognized by the computer. Not even when I switch it to PCI #2 and put the Audigy on PCI #3 will it recognize the modem, and once I put the Audigy in slot 3, it won't recognize it, either! I've switched the COM port from 1 to 3, and made sure the IRQ is compatible, but it still doesn't work...

2: Turned on the computer today and the main video card was out. I mean dead, kaput. No lights, no fan, no signal to the monitor, and one looong beep on POST. I took the card out, switched them around, reattached the power leads, and then suddenly both worked, but they both had a red light on! Called BFG--they say my config needs minimum 500w and my PowerPC 510-SLI express might not be enough. Didn't even get a chance to tell them that I get two vertical white lines on the left side of my display and a horizontal green line when I install and start Creative's Jedi Academy demo... According to PC Power's website the supply should be enough, and I have no idea why all of a sudden I got a dead card, unless the PSU is faulty.

Could the power supply be bad, or not putting out enough power? I haven't OC'd it, hadn't even taxed the machine (I'm still loading software and updating drivers!), so why all of a sudden does it not give enough power? Should I switch up to their 850 or to another PSU?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

BTW--once I reinstalled the Audigy in #2 (twice) and uninstalled/reinstalled the software, windows recognized it and it worked fine. Modem still isn't seen by Windows, however. Even after I install the drivers...

Try uninstalling the modem in the device manager and rebooting and see if windows finds new hardware(the modem). If this does not work try doing a clean install of the operating system. Sometimes things just get buggy and it is needed. I do one about every 4 months or so even if everything is fine just to keep stuff fresh. It to me is kind of like washing your car. When its clean it feals like it drives better even though you know its not...lol
Also if it does detect the modem upon reboot do not install the driver off the cd that came with the modem. Just let windows use its driver. I have had many probs over the years with driver cd's that came with modems. Especially US Robotics.

Do a clean format and install of windows and set your system up again. If this has been done do it again. Also try checking your power. You just never know what the problem can be but low power can make things funky that you would never think would happen. I will be willing to bet it is caused by the operating system though, or maybe your router or modem.

Well I fixed it. So happy.

Nothing to do with windows or my router or my ram or audigy or power.

It was a simple matter of downloading drivers from AMD for x2's in windows xp. That's all. Installed all their official programs like cpu info and such and now I'm working 100%.

I'm pretty annoyed with asus for not pointing me in that direction. Their drivers theoretically should cover the same ground or they should notify the user in BIG FAT BOLD LETTERS that you MUST download the drivers from AMD or your x2 will not perform in a stable fashion. Some people are having RAID problems or video card problems... mine happened to be network.

Get those drivers. They're crucial.

That's great. I agree both AMD and Asus tech support should be making the end user aware of this. Hopefully this will help some other folks .

DO you have the EZ plug power connected? It's just a standard molex plugged into the mobo up by the back plane.and #1 card.

I was wandering what RAM timings those of you who overclock the CPU use. After running mine stock and with timings set aggressively (2-2-2-5 at 1T) for almost 6 months I've started dabbling in OC'ing. right now with HT at 5x and timings at 2.5-3-3-6 at 2T and PCI sync to 33.33, I've boosted my 3000+ to 220 x 9. Is it possible to do better with the RAM timings or is this a good place to start? I'd like to get my CPU to 2.2 ghz if possible. Thanks guys, KUTGW!

THG PSU Stress Test Failures:
Antec has had 2 different PSU's fail the Tom's Hardware Guide PSU Stress Test and Coolermaster and OCZ have 1 failed PSU each. PC P&C, Enermax and Fortron as well as EPower are the only passing units as of this time.

Pretty nasty to watch. Manufacturers are falling over each other to get another unit on the bench before the Stress Test ends. LOL. Seasonic and Silverstone haven't tested yet. Some failures are minor but others are pretty big deals. The OCZ super overclocker PSU just shut down completely well before nitting its advertised wattage. I would reinstall your operating system anyway. All that work you have done with the drivers and configurations is bound to have jacked the registry. Just to be on the safe side.

yes. I've verified and reverified that all conections are correctly made. I've unplugged and replugged all connectors in again, and the molex connector on the board is on its own rail--nothing else is drawing power off of it. I'm at a loss unless it is a bad power supply.

I fired it up again this morning and the primary video card was dead again but the second card was on, red light and all :( ...turned everything off, switched the power leads, and the primary card (and the secondary card) both worked but with the red light on again. I called BFG and the first rep said I had too small a power supply, the second said I had a more than sufficient power supply but had me do a diagnostic swap of the video cards to see if the cards were causing the problem with the video artifacts while in SLI. both cards worked fine as single primary cards, no artifacts and both have same BIOS. red light was still on with both, even though the second card was removed, thereby removing 100W from the system. I think the problem may in fact be the power supply, but haven't received a call back from the PC Power and Cooling techs. I haven't even tried to work on the modem problem again until I get the video problem and lack of power problem fixed. That red light on the video cards makes me uneasy, and last night while doing testing advised by the first rep the computer all of a sudden "shifted gears" and a dialog box came up saying that the nVidia console had "automatically adjusted the power draw on the cards to avoid damaging my system," making me even more paranoid about frying the mobo. (the red lights did go off though....weird, huh?)

One question--it could be that I am just noticing it, but the green light on the bottom of the mobo is on ALL the time even when the computer is powered down. I never noticed it before--is it normal?

Thanks for all the help....just at the end of my rope on the video cards and modem. I really need this computer to work like NOW but am having nothing problems.

Paul Lytle

Help..Decided to try and install the Windows XP Pro x64 edition. The makedisk.exe from the 64bit chipset drivers does not contain nvata.cat and nvraid.cat files. The Windows installation process complains they are missing. I copied the files from the XP directory. The installation went fine, however, the machine will not boot up into windows. I call ASUS and they were totally clueless that these were missing. I still have a feeling it is the nvidia raid drivers causing the problem.

I am having the same problem as Paul Lytle saw the post i copied above but saw no answer. Does anyone know where I can get (nvata.cat and nvraid.cat) for Windows XP Pro x64 edition. Really want to see what my coputer will do with the raptors. thank you.

Tho XP still loads b/c i can connect to it via the network. I just have no display. Any tips or solutions or even what the problem is would be helpful. Thanks

Right now i'm running the latest beta bios drivers for the Premium.
