William SPano,
I have been running Raid 5 with 3 Raptors since January with zero problems. The SATA CDROM drive is your problem as it is corrupting the install. Use an IDE CDROM drive and the problem will go away!

Okay, now I have all the files I need from Asus' website, but I cannot flash the BIOS. I have flashed this BIOS in the past without any problem. I believe I flashed it twice...to 1003 and 1004, which is what I currently have. I am trying to flash it to 1011. I'm doing this the same way I have flashed previously...

I boot to floppy, run AWDFLASH and then type in the BIOS file name, "A8NSD011." I have the right name because it then asks me if I want to back up my current BIOS. If I typed the wrong name, it tells me "source file not found" or something similar. If I answer NO to the back up, it takes me back to an A:\ prompt. So I have to select YES. When I select YES, it backs up my current BIOS fine. Then it tells me "source file not found." I've tried this with AWDFlash 1.9 and 1.8 (1.8 is what I used in my previous flashes).

I also tried renaming the file to simply 11.bin and I got the same results.

Any suggestions?

Reply to Merc,

Got a new motherboard and all is working fine now. I can now install PCI cards. Also the chipset fan is different but hopefully better than the last one.

Thanks Merc, yeah took a while to get it back. I think they tested it a week after they recieved it. But at least they found a problem and I was able to get a new one with no shipping charges. As for the psu it seems ok I have it on the lowest fan setting and the air is cool. As I type the mobo and cpu temps are 33/36 c. Bit high for the board but it is a warm day. So now the system is running good all I need now is my ASDL net connection to be switched on.

Will

To DJConan - I just flashed my BIOS a few days ago with everything you have and I didn't have a problem. You have to type the filename and file extension/type. If that didn't work, your copy maybe corrupted and I would download everything again. Good luck.

Yeah, I tried all the name variations I could think of. All caps, all lowercase, mixed case, with .bin w/o .bin. I spent way more time on this than anyone should have. lol I will try downloading everything again and give that a shot. It would seem like the bin file is bad with the way it's acting. I know the Award Flash 1.08 works from previous flashes.

Merc, I haven't tried the Asus Utility. I might have tried it when I first got this mobo and for whatever reason, I didn't get my mobo flashed. Likely my own error, but I went to the DOS flash and that worked, so I've stuck with what I'm familiar with. I may try the Asus Utility as well. One of these attempts has got to work. :)

I have a question that doesn't effect me at the moment, but I am curious. If I am understanding this correctly, the latest chipset driver (it's a driver, right?) files have a note attached to them saying that you should update the chipset before flashing the BIOS to 1012 or higher. My question is, what if you do that, then put in a new hard drive that you're going to boot from? Now you have 1012 or higher without the updated chipset on a newly installed Windows system.

Hi there

Its been a while since I have been here

I have just flashed to the new 1013-002 bios and all works well but my question is on memory timmings

with the older bios it was easy to set timmings ie 2.5 3 6 3 but the bios the timmings page is a lot different and I am a bit lost and how to set things as they were

I have 2x 1gb sticks and would like to get back to 2.5 3 6 3 or better if possible

Okay I finally got ahold of a friend's bfg6800gt pci-e
the only differences between mine and his, is his is dual dvi input, mine is vga/dvi.

When I plug the connector from the psu into his bfg, the light near the power connector = green
when i plug it into mine, red.

That either means the two models for some reason have different colored LEDs, or there's a problem with my video card's power connector. Of those of you who have bfg cards could you just tell me the color of your LED next to your power connector, and wether you have the blue vga/dvi version or the green dual dvi version?

All Users, If you are considering or are going to buy an SLI motherboard, why not ask the manufacturer to reccomend a power supply. All of their WEB sites have a contack or a service page, if not don't buy from them! The no more questions about it is PCPOWERAND COOLING! Come on people, do your home work before you buy! And no matter how good we are suspose to be, no one has it all! Safe yourself some grief and do your pre purchase homework!

Now I have another question...I can't find a way to enable NCQ for my Maxtor that supports NCQ. I read that it's under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager? If so, I don't have anything available with NCQ showing. What am I missing?

Thanks.

i have the same problem. push the on button and it turns on for about 1.5 seconds. then shuts off. the cpu fan starts to run, so duz the fan for vid card. and the LED for POST remains on untill i turn off the PSU switch. my stuff is brand new out of the box. i am now regretting gettin this stupid mobo since i cant even get the damn thing to start once. ive tried using 3 PSU, first one is 520W, turn on comp and nothing at all happined. tried a few times still nothin. so i held the power button for a few and the stupid PSU popped and sparked at me. brand new PSU is ruined. cant even hotwire it to make the fan turn on no more :( so i put in my old 300W piece of junk from my old comp (only 20 pin connector  ) tried it with that and it would turn on for a sec then turn off. POST code that remained after it turned itself off was 8.7 (which is "check CPU voltage" in the manual) i figured that was because i had only a 20 pin connector. so i got another PSU, this one is 480W NeoPower (this one i know for a fact will run this mobo since ive read about a few ppl usin them with it and its also in the first post of this thread), now i try to start up and same thing happines, but the POST code is different. POST code now is 8.3 (which is "ATX power supply ready") ive tried starting with everything disconnected and this and that but it still says the same exact thing...ANNOYINGGGGG
i ordered my stuff online and its such a pain to return it. and i dunno what that RMA or whatever thing is.

if this has already been gone over please refer me to the page, i tried reading em but after about page 82 my eyes felt like they were gonna bleed hehe.
