yup i reset CMOS using jumper and takin the battery out...ive tried everything i can think of and everything ive seen while searchin on web about this problem. ive found other ppl with same problem...but their solution was always RMA. guess that gonna be my solution too...crappy solution if ya ask me. i would rather get the thing workin. ive never had to RMA a mobo, and i used to build comps and sell them.

what exactly does holding the power button for 4 sec or whatever do? i have never heard of this b4. that was a suggestion in another forum for this prob but all it did was destroy my PSU. its supposed to anti-static or somethin? so im afraid to try that agian with this new one. dang thing cost a fortune, i dont wanna ruin it too with this POS mobo.

Fred-
Holding the power button in for 4 seconds or so is usually a way of forcing the PC to shut down if it hangs during a normal shutdown. By holding it in for 4 seconds at startup I can't see how it could possibly have blown your PSU. Maybe short it or kick the breaker or something but not blow it. That PSU blew for another reason and I'd recommend you find out what that reason is before doing anything else. It sounds like it blew violently and I would be surprised if it didn't trash your mobo and some other stuff when it went. What kind of PSU was it?

I have the Premium A8N-SLI and an Ati 800xl card. I am unable to get the computer to get me any type of display. I have a new Antec true power PSU 550 watts. The only thing that is attached to the computer is the ram and the video card. This is off a recommendation from Asus's support and still nothing happens. I s My ati card incompatible with the board or did I purchase a bum board. I have been switching around the connectors for the power and reset for the case for hours and i am unable to get the computer to shut down after holding the power button for more than 4 seconds. and help with this would be nice. thanks

Stephane-
When you cleared the CMOS did you:
1. unplug the PC from the wall first?
2. move the jumper from pins 1&2 to 2&3, wait, then move back to 1&2?
3. Is your PSU OK?

BTW that RAM is completely compatible w/ this mobo. The problem lies elesewhere (unless the RAM itself is bad).

Sean-
Your system is hung up, probably because of all the fiddling around with it, and you need to reset the CMOS/BIOS. Go to page 185 of this thread and follow the instructions I gave to Mikko there. If you need more detailed instruction just PM me.

Stephane-
BIOS 1011 caused me a lot of problems. I would suggest that you flash to 1013 after resetting the CMOS. I am running it now and it seems to be fairly stable. Reset the CMOS with plug out of the wall and then flash the BIOS using an msdos disk on the very first boot up.

Have you considered that the CPU may be faulty. Remember that the memory controller is imbedded in the CPU itself. You would not be the first person to have this problem. Is there a way to test your CPU?

Can you plug it into another mobo or plug another CPU into your mobo in order to eliminate one of these two items as the problem?

Excellent FAQ. I did see one seting in the BIOS I didn't notice before and thats the PEG link. I've been trying to get everything up and running on this board. Here are my specs:

ASUS A8V-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon64 4800+ X2
Cosair TWINX512-3200XL / DDR-400 (XMS-3200XL) / 2-2-2-5 - 4 sticks of 512 megs each
Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA NCQ HDD (4)
Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 HDD (2)
SONY Beige 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 40X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner
ATI FireGL V7100 graphics card
Monitor Type : SGI 1600SW 17 inchs (2) 1600x1024 res.
ATI TV Wonder Elite Remote Control Edition PCI
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Altec Lansing 251 5.1 speakers
WACOM Intuos3 PTZ630 6" x 8" Active Area USB Tablet
WindowsXP Pro SP 2
Antec Neo ATX 480W Power Supply
DWL-520 Air Wireless 2.4GHz (802.11b) PCI Adapter
Aero Cool HT-101

I did get the RAM to work by booting with one stick in the third slot. After updating my BIOS to 1013 I was able to get all four sticks running fine with no problems. What I'm having trouble with now is the graphics card. it won't boot with it set as primary. Although when I try a PCI card it boots fine into windows and windows detects the card fine and lets me install the drivers for the ATI v7100. However, when you try to activate the displays conected to the card it either freezes up or causes a hard reboot? Any ideas what I should try? I'm going to try diabling the PEG link function as I don't think I had it disabled. Any help would great.

Thanks

Keith-
I'd recommend that you remove the Audigy sound card and its drivers, reset the CMOS/BIOS and then let it reboot. Get everything else stable and then try and install the soundblaster again.

Ok, I tried this but no luck. Still not getting my PCI-X ATI V7100 to work. I am getting the whole system to boot with it though. It's just not showing any video thru it at all. From what I can tell it does boot all the way thru to windows however. One thing though on my RAM I'm running a full four sticks of 512k at 400 and 2-2-2-5 timings with no problems at all. Anyone have any other ideas that I might try?

Unplug the PC from the wall, strip the board down to just the CPU and HSF, 1 stick of RAM in B1, video card and the 2 power connectors as well as power to the card. Reset the CMOS/BIOS (remove battery change jumpers around replace battery), plug the PC back in and reboot like that. No drives of any kind connected and no PCI cards.

Ok, got it all stripped down to just the CPU, CPU Heat Sink fan and the ATI v7100 graphics card. Removed the CMOS battery and reset BIOS with the jumper. Plugged power suppy back in and fired it up..it posted fine but again no video. No error beeps except the post beep. What next? First time I've ran into this type of thing before.
