@ Joker
@ Jonathan Judasz

I also have the rev 1.02 board, the highest bios that I can get to run on it is 1004 but its rock solid stable with 1004, it won't load windows at all after 1011 or so and 1007 was unstable but 1004 seems to be the magic number with my board and most importantly with my OCZ memory.

It was Just by dumb luck I bought regular IDE optical drives (cd, dvd dvd-rom) and SATA harddrives that are problem free on this hardware so I have had very little trouble with the machine now that I have given up on the things I bought the board for ;) like hardware firewall, cool-n-quiet, and a few other things.

with a basic setup and none of the gadgets enabled (actually I do have cool-n-quiet enabled again) my system is finaly rock solid stable but I am more interested in Stabilaty than performance outside of being able to run my memory at 2.2.2.5 1T which the motherboard won't do without manually configuring it.

I knew there was a stable version out there!! :-( ... I ended up RMAing my board to zzz.com and am awaiting the premium tommorrow afternoon. I had tried 1001 (which worked until I loaded up my Corsair ram)... then went back to 1011 to fool around with and then 1013... BOTH high end bios version are jacked up...

I am going on the notion that since this form for the deluxe board has over 200 pages that it MAY NOT be the best board Asus has ever made... That said the Premium forum has like 5 pages... so I'm guessing that I'll have better luck on it... Eitherway, thanks for the 1004 info... If I had that a week ago, then I'd flashed to it!! :-)

Can I ask a stupid question. I am having all the memory problems as well. Could not flash bios etc. Then did the F2 trick mentioned in one of the several hundred pages here and it flashed but I am now wondering how I can check it as on boot up the Asus AI page masks where the memory check and M/b bios is normally mentioned. The only other Bios info that comes up is for the SATA controller which is 5.1.39. I am sure there is an easy way of finding this out.
On the memory front I am going to buy some of the recommended memory in the manual today to see if I can get the mobo working with memory in A1 and B1 as at present I only have 512mb in B1. Once installed in A1 it freezes on boot up or crashes shortly after XP64 is loaded up.

ANy help much appreciated

David

I dont Get it I had my system running perfect for a month. Then it freezes and now can not get drives to read. I have Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, Raid 0 Raptor drives, 2 gigs OCZ mem, dual 7800 gtx's, plextor and liteon DVD's and 320 western digital for storage. I think its the Mobo and the Raptor drives. Anyone with similiar configs. I had all drivers perfect and the system will boot with disk read error. If I hook up the 3rd storage drive it saYS ntldr missing. Thanks very much.

Brian-
It sounds like something got corrupted. Could be a virus or from O/Cing or malware etc. Regardless, you should have a restore point in windows that you can go back to. give that a shot before assuming the mobo or drives have gone bad.

Make sure you have the card mounted in the slot closest to the CPU only. Then make sure the selector card is set to single GPU. After verifying this reset the CMOS/BIOS as per the manual (make sure PC is unplugged from the wall when resetting CMOS/BIOS) and then reboot. Hopefully the video appears.

Thanks very much but I tried reinstalling a few times. Finally Someone reset my mobo by taking battery and still had problem with read disk error. I finally redid everything again and as of now its working fine. I just read on another post where the connectors get loose for a lot of people and I think that might be my problem. I thought virus for sure but then after reformating disks and stuff wondered. Can a Virus get into your BIOS chip so you have to actually reset the MOBO by draining battery? If so that might be it. Thanks again for your help

Brian-
You have to flash to the BIOS chip so it would be very very difficult, without direct access to the mobo, to install a virus on the ROM. Yes the SATA cables can come loose very easily and also go bad. SATA II is suppsoed to address thsi issue.

Hello,

Like many here I am having problems (i think with my motherboard). When im in game for a pro-longed time (cuz im a nerd and i love playing games) both my monitors go blank and my sound repeats its buffer for a few seconds then stops. I assumed it was my video card, I called up BFG they ran me threw some tests and one of the probe scans we did said that my 12V rail is off 11.53 in game to 11.71. To make a long story short I contacted my PSU supplier and they instructed me that most mobos are off and to check with a volt meeter, I did that and the voltage is like dead on 12V.

This usually happens when playing higher end games, CS:S DOD:S BF2..

Systems specs:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
CORSAIR 1GB 2x512MB DDR DUAL CHANNEL KIT
BFG NVIDIA GeForce 6800GTOC 256MB (1xNo SLI(yet))
OCZ ModStream PSU ATX 520W
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1MB Cache
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2
WD Cavier 160GB SATAII

Im still using the stock bios 1008 i think and ive played with many of the bios settings. Im not overclocking unless its doing it auto. I am planning on upgrading to the latest 1013 bios. (not sure if its the best idea ive seen some scary posts about it) but ill try anything. I contacted asus that they said to like take everything out of the pc, move some CRTCL jumper and take the bios battery out. Im not sure what is the cause of my problem anymore... i have no idea which part i should rma...

I also have a unknown device listed in my device manager, the details tab says its 'ACPI\ATK0110\1010110' and i have no clue what it is or where to get drivers for it...

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
I have a problem with my USB devices.

I checked Device Manager and I have 2 USB Hubs capable of 500mA each and 10 USB ports.

The problem is I have 10 USB ports on my computer but all seem to be connected to the 1 hub

I have opened up the computer but any plug available for USB is already taken by the 4 on the motherboard + 6 additional (2 at front, 4 at rear)

How do i "Open up" the new hub as I cant run my USB ADSL modem and my webcam at once as combined they require 700mA (More than can be supplied) and I have been given the error "USB Bandwidth Exceeded"

I have checked multiple PCs and they all have the same idea.. 500mA self powered.. but there are only 2 ports assigned to each hub opposed to 10 on this new computer...

Are Hubs a software thing, "Virtual" hubs? As I have said I have opened up this PC(A8N-SLi) and compared it with old motherboard (Cheap low end crap thing) and I cant "see" any hubs or anything...

I am on MSN Messenger as "Superflex@Culverin.co.uk", please add me if you can and tell me how to fix this. Otherwise reply here :) Its a brand new high-end PC that cant cope with more than 2 USB devices simeltaniously (Note: my old PC ran both webcam, modem and more simeltaniously)

Thanks,
Arrows

Back on July 1st I posted that I would get back to the forum about my RMA'd board. Bad BIOS was the determination. I received a 2nd board with an updated fan. Life being what it is, I couldn't get around to putting it together until this weekend. So it sat in its box until now.
Anyway, this one will not POST. I put in the cpu, one stick of ram in B1, video card, floppy, speakers plugged in, keyboard, mouse, & monitor plugged in. The 24 pin, atx, & ez plug, are all hooked up.
There is no video, no beeping, & no error reporting through the speakers. Green led on the board is lit.
I tried pulling the battery & resetting the BIOS.
I went through the FAQ & have tried my best, but I think this one weekend may be it for me. If I can't get it running I'll write it off as a learning experience & go with another brand. I at least have the laptop until then.

Just wondering if anyone has tried testing the HD transfer rate on this board. I have a Western Digital WD2500KS SATA II 300mb/sec hard drive and do not seem to be getting good transfer rates on it. What is anyone elses rates if they have the same drive and what software are you using to test it ?

Thanks

David

PS. Also how do you use/ turn on NCQ ?

So I got all my parts and installed them this weekend and expected to be blown away... so far, I'm not impressed. I'm thinking theres something up with my configuration or hardware, cause it just doesnt seem right. I formatted my main drive and installed windows on it and updated the bios (1013) and drivers.

Any ideas of what might be causing the slow downs in windows (eg: 90% CPU usage in HDTV PVR, big lag time sometimes when opening a few programs... etc)

Here are my specs:

Asus A8N Deluxe
2 GB (2 x 1 GB) OCZ 3200 Ram (2-3-2-5)
WD 80 GB HD

eVGA Geforce 6800GT 256MB PCI Express 16x
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer Edition

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
hi,

not too sure if this is the correct place for this but...

I have another issue with the SLI mode on the Asus a8n SLI Premium.

My actual specs are :
. Asus A8N SLI Premium
. 2x Asus EN7800 GTX
. AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ (with zalman CNPS 7000b cu)
. 2x Corsair PC 3200 1024M Value
. 2x WD 74 Go Raptor (Raid 0)
. Case Antec TX1050B
. OS : Win2K

The problem is that it doesn't work in SLI mode : if I plug my 2 graphic cards, all goes well until the point I install the nVidia video Drivers. Then the windows boot stops at windows 2000 startup screen (the white one).
Most exactly, the boot process pass the white screen, switch briefly to a black screen and, instead of coming back on the usual windows desktop, it loads again the same loading page and it stops there.

. if I boot on VGA mode, it works
. if I remove the second GC, it works as well

It's only a suspicion but I noticed the second GC is using the same IRQ (19) than the Raid Controller (Required for my S-ATA Raid).
However, if I'm right, the APIC functions doesn't allow me to manually change & re-assign IRQs.

So, what to do ? (except running with a single card or removing my Raid).

thanx in advance,

Fred.

Comments :
. my GC are SLI Ready and officially supported (would be a shame as both MB and GCs are Asus products).
. I upgraded the MB Bios to 1.007 and used 78.03 driver for the CGs and 6.66 driver for the MB.
. the MB is powered with the 3 connectors.
. I used the bridge when trying to enable SLI.
. I used the recommanded Bios Settings found on the top of this topic.
. I made several searches on the boards but haven't found anything that match my issue.

Updated : ugh ! just found this on the Asus A8N SLI Premium support page :
Operating System
- SLI mode only supports Windows XP
SLI mode isn't supported on Win2K ???

Did you run a processor intensive game with the voltmeter attached? Also, where did you get your readings off. BTW, my readings are way off on voltage when compared to what a meter reads. 11.76 on Asus Probe and the meter reads 12.14 at idle and 12.12 under heavy load.
