Yes, the Zalman's no good for me because it gets in the way of my dual 6800gt's. it'd have to be as low-profile as the stock fan...
Thanks though,
Jared

i wish ASUS would offer the solution they have on the Premium.

Oh. Given new info re: clearance:

Some posts have suggested using a Pabst 80mm fan, installed over the stock heatsink. I've not done it, but should be easy enough if you mod. The pabst is reliable, quiet and fairly cheap.

help ;) I wonder how many posts out of all the 219 pages start like that.. well im in need of some help
I had my system working rock solid for the past 5 months.. was rocking with bf2.. anyhow I had a drive fail and all hell broke loose on my system. So I wanted to just start a complete fresh install.. figured something was up.

using
amd 64 4000+ san diego
a8n sli deluxe board
2 gig of ram.. not sure the brand but it was recommended
2 WD 320 SATA drives (new)
gforce 7800 gtx.
pioneer dvd burner - i have also tried a crap cd rom i had laying around.

IM having issues getting xp installed agian. I followed the settings on page 1 of this thread wiht out luck.

im seeing various differnt issues

some times i see:

irq_less_not_equal., with some hex data but not specifically pointing to a driver
some times when trying xp pro set up, it fails to copy over some files during the first part
of the install, other times in the 2nd part of the install
lots of bsod, with the irql thing

I have tried:

bios 1004, 1007, 1015
Im pressing f6 during install of xp and using the makedisk driver disk that came with my mb for the drivers to use.. not sure what version they are 2.7 comes up every now and then in the install process.

I have tried installing xp on the ide0 using a old maxtor no luck, same issues reported, tried nv sata , si sata, nv raid, si raid configs all trying to install xp wiht alot of the same issues reported.

I pulled out on stick of ram to test that as well.

IM pretty much at my wits end, I have spent pretty much 12 hrs straight doing installs over andover again with differnt combos and settings in the bios, differnt bios..

so im wondering anyone installing latley what drivers are you using when u use f6 on the xp pro sp1 install ?
my cpu seems to be around 35

heh speaking of crashes i just got one on an install

irql_not_less_or_equal

stop 0x000000a (0x00000008, 0x00000002, 0x80510415)

of course I dont know what that means, i have checked the M$ forms and found out what 0x00000a could be but the 3 other values im not sure what exactly they are saying, maybe pinpointing a prob but im not sure what it could be.

bascially pretty fustrated and almost ready to give up on this mb and try something else.

why would a system run rock solid for months with out an issue pushing it to the limits and now I cant even do a simple thing as an install of xp pro sp1.. btw im talking about the 32 bit version.

help.. sad a8n user.

Welcome to sli land!

I suspect this is a memory issue - many seem to be. But, if it ran, you'll be OK Assuming my take is on target, I had this intermittently using Giel modules, things became solid with OCZ gold. It's picky (as you now know).

Follow Sander's install directions, using later NVidia mobo drivers and bios. I'm using latest mobo dirvers and bios 13 - solid. Be sure to install the newer nvidia drivers prior to upadting bios (past 11 or so - check asus site).

Some have trouble with audigy cards - mine installed and runs fine.

I called in to ASUS about my NorthBridge Chipset fan making noise. About 3 minutes wait on the phone and 2 minute conversation, I'm told that they will send a replacement fan.

To those who just went thru this process, if I may ask this questions:
1) does this mean my warranty is void?
2) do I need special tools to install?
3) will the replacement do any changes to my pc, i.e. BIOS settings, etc?
4) are there sites, that show in picture, step-by-step instructions on how to replace?
5) what does the new NorthBridge Chipset look like?
6) what types of backup should I be doing before installing?
if there is a question that I should be asking, or hints/suggestions, I would greatly appreciate if you could pass it along.

To those who just went thru this process, if I may ask this questions:
1) does this mean my warranty is void? - NO
2) do I need special tools to install? - NO, needle nose pliers help
3) will the replacement do any changes to my pc, i.e. BIOS settings, etc? - NO, it's just the heatsink/fan that you're replacing, not the chipset itself.
4) are there sites, that show in picture, step-by-step instructions on how to replace? - I don't know, but it's really easy. just pop out the old pins (here's where needle nose pliers can come in handy), pull off the old heatsink/fan, clean the surface of the chipset, apply thermal paste of choice, place new heatsink/fan on chipset and pop in new provided pins. you can do this with or without removing the motherboard from the case.
5) what does the new NorthBridge Chipset look like? - It's the under the only fan on the A8N-SLI motherboard when it's stripped down, located near the PCI-Ex slots.
6) what types of backup should I be doing before installing? - None necessary, but backing up important data is never a bad idea.
if there is a question that I should be asking, or hints/suggestions, I would greatly appreciate if you could pass it along. - Don't worry it's easy!

Steve-
Regarding your XP install, there are actually two files on that floppy you made and you have to load both. So, do the F6 thing and when it asks you to hit S to load drivers you have to do it twice to get both files uploaded to windows. Do the S sequence twice and you should be ok.

Steve - Best memory - your call. Cheap, fast and works with asus sli are my criteria. My Giel didn't (though its good memory).

OCZ Gold - great price, great peformance, but you have to set the bios and memory power to accommodate 2-2-2-5 NewEgg.com

IGB fne for now, the pundits say 2gb more future proof - who knows? 2gb doesn't add much current performance benefit.

Ray - try a zalman passive cooler. You have to take the mobo out, but it's not hard to install, quiet and effective if you have case air flow (and don't live on the equator).

I have had more problems. this time after installing Halflife2 and also after Trend Micro Pc-Cillan Suite 2006. it seems to be related to startup programs? or Windows. i do ghave a maxtor diamondmax10 and have checked my bios which is banc1g10 which is supposed to be error free

so far my issues have been for definite sure windows related. i have pro sp2
it was not streamlined
the definite cause have been
zone alarm pro
trend micro pc-cillan internet security suite 2006

I've switched tot he marvell and If i restore back to befoire these installs... it boots fine... so can someone help me troubleshoot whats being installed or changing at boot.
i notice that i dont even get into the blue scroll boot screen.

no errors are reported by the system, and I'm stumped. sort of. i have the idea of what and where the errors are bascially happening but find ing out exactly why is hard... it will boot during these issues into safe mode fine so its something windows isnt loading due to safe mode... i keep getting the sinking feeling its relating back to the nvidia drivers but i hate the win generics, the drive is sooooo much slower using them. Whats the danger in using the drivers direct from nvidia rather than asus. i notice they are a hiugher version? or should I go back? although from the errors i have read that doesnt seem a good idea.

on that note what is the difference between asus nvidia chipset and graphic drivers versus the higher version nvidia direct drivers aside from being newer... is there a huge change.

and if i go nvidia direct i see there are the nvidida nforce 4 amd drivers and the nvidia amd x16 drivers i assume x16 is a refrence to PCIe???

help is appreciated.... Ian

i restored back and everything works again. i've never seen anything like this before.

i found looking for answers the following in device manager.

under system devices:
atk11010 I found the driver for this and installed
just the acpi monitor i think for aibooster
shouldnt have caused all this

then by clicking view then show hidden devices i found these and cant find the fixes
under "Non Plug & PLay Devices:
Yellow triangle exclamations on
PartMgr
PCIIde
Serial
Standard IDE/ESDI HArd Disk Controller

they all say
This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)

and for instance under the Standard IDE/ESDI HArd Disk Controller
under details under Device Instance Id
it says
Root/legacy_ATAPI/0000

any help is appreciated
please

Guys,

I have trawled the web everywhere for an answer to this one with no luck. I installed the Realtek ALC850 Audio drivers (ver 5.10.0.5750, dated 17/11/04) that were supplied with the motherboard. Everything works fine. But when I upgraded to the latest Realtek drivers (5.10.5950), if I launch Sound Manger and go to the SPDIF settings, the option "Output digital and analog" is no longer available. The only options now are "No output" and "Output digital only"

I also get the same problem when using Nvidia latest audio drivers. If I rollback the drivers to ver 5.10.0.5750 the "Output digital and analog" option is available. Does anyone know why the latest drivers disable this feature?

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe chipset fan
I join the ranks of A8N-SLI Deluxe owners that have had to replace the nasty ,whiney, pain-in-the-a** chipset fan.
I, however REFUSE to make a toll call and waste any more of my own money for a problem that Asus produced.(i got the standard computer generated email telling to phone THEM on my dime after spending 20 minutes on their damned form).
I will just go and replace the heatsink, fan, with a more dependable product if Asus can't come to the realization that its BAD customer service to make replacement of faulty parts difficult for their customers.
I know, I know, Im being anal about this, but DAMMIT I spent 259.00 CAN on this mobo, and if that doesnt buy me a bit better customer service than this, I will gladly jump the Asus ship and find a company that actually stands behind their product, and knows what it means to satisfy their customers.

There!!! i feel so much better now :)
