mcq3000, per using SilImage SATA ports...

I also wanted to use these ports for independent SATA drives (non-raid) and spent countless hours reconfiguring, etc., to no avail. Many emails to both ASUS and Silicon Image produced a lot of paper but no resolution. Both said it was simple to fix, but none of the fixes work. One tech confessed he had no idea how to do it.

It appears that these ports are useful for RAID, not independent use. You can configure it for 'just a bunch of disks' RAID and then use only one disk, but if you need more disks they are also in raid formation, not independent.

My solution (cost $45) was to disable these ports and forget they exist. I then installed a PCI slot 4-port SATA card (with its driver) that does NOT support RAID. This has worked flawlessly and I have three SATA drives running independently.

It cost me a PCI slot, but I have the control I want.

Hey Fellas,

Been reading up on your conversations and i enjoy the way you guys help each other out so im going to give this a try. I just got this board lets say about a week ago, and couldnt get it up and running. To make a long story short instead of talking about all the mistakes i made when installing it (Im a little new to the moding world) i finally got it running, but im getting a "System Failed VGA Test" on cold boots. It takes around 3-4 trys of powering off then powering on in order for it to come on clean. Heres specs, if more is needed please let me know......

Trent the obvious is to uninstall and re-seat the video card.

Then, did you also update the NVidia drivers for the motherboard? Your bios requires recent mobo drivers, unlikely to be on the install CD.

Also, what's you power supply? SLI boards take lots of power - more than the usual output of a stcok PSU in a case. This has been an ungoing source of problems for folks with deluxe mobos.

Trent--
In addition to what was said above, make sure the the video card is in correct slot and set for single card use. Although using only one video card should not require using the extra molex plug on the motherboard beside the video slots, plug it in anyway. As stated in previous post, these units suck up the power and you do not want marginal conditions.

>> unable to use the asus update utility for A8NSLI-Deluxe
I have the same problem with my board. I can't run the update utility and I get the error message "unable to create NT server service for BS_DEF.DLL " and then it says that my board is not an asus board. It started happening after the beta 007 bios. I have had nothing but problems with this board. I had to replace the chipset fan, had problems with those workthless nvidia IDE drivers and now this. Asus has done nothing to address these problems. Their forums are full of this stuff and they act stupid about the whole thing.

Hi,

I could use some help with the following problem.

Whenever I boot my system it hangs at the Asus start screen, I can get into the bios configuration (if I hit DEL quick enough), but it does not go any further.
When I do a reset, using the reset button, at that point my system boots just fine, altough it can take very long.
Obviously I would like to have my system start up without having to do a reset after power up. What could be causing this problem?

My configuration is:
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, Rev A3
BIOS revision 1015 (but had same problem with 1014)
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venics
2x 512Mb Corsair PC3200
Sapphire X6000 Pro Graphics card
Antec Sonata TruePower 380W power supply
1x Hitachi Deskstar 250G SATA2
2x Maxtor 200 Gb DiamondMax Plus 10
1x Maxtor 250 Gb DiamondMax Plus 10
(Detaching the 3 Maxtor disks still give the same problem)

reset the bios. check the connections, if there is diagnostic system on that motherboard (Audible POST system) or Fault LEDs check those.

Hi
I have a proper NEWBIE Q I have just tried to boot for the first time and all that comes on are the fans - cpu - front intake and psu fan.
The mobo doesnt make a sound and the monitor doesnt attermpt to come on .
I have checked all ther connection and they all seem to be in place i havent installed floppy drive and any of the modules ie - usb and game firewire module or the serial , i dont now whether this could be my problem.

Q Should the monitor come on without any windows or drivers installed .
I have installed the 2 memory modules in the default A1 AND B1 , I have also tried 1 module in b1 that doesnt work .. i have been on the corsair site and they say that the mobo doesnt auto detect my memory and should be be set manually ..
http://memtest.corsairmemory.com/print_report.aspx?model=Asus+...mp;id=5031
Could this be my issue in getting it to boot or could be another problem or a mix of a few .
Any help on this would be great Thanks
ian

Pieter B,
Your PSU is a little on the lite side, 380W(that's 380W max) won't even fire this board with all you have running. Personally I wouldn't run anything less than 500W with this board, 600W perferably

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

I've had no problems with this board since I got it (one of the few people). But I was bored last night and started overclocking. Got it up to 2.9Ghz, but wasn't stable enough to run 3dmark, so I upped the voltage by .025. And now I get nothing, just a black screen when I turn on power. No beeps, no bios screen, notta. But everything has power, mb led is lit, all fans are spinning, and hd spins like its looking for something then stops. I reset the bios about 10 times, took out one of the memory modules, switched them around, moved sata cable to different port. Pretty much everything you can think of, I'm out of ideas and need some help. Thanks

To Ian Roberts:

I have been through the same problem as you(took a couple months to fix). Your memory, which is C2PT, needs 2.7Volts for it to run properly and the motherboard is default set lower. What you need to do is get different memory that takes a lower Voltage, install it, and get into the BIOS and set it to 2.7V. Then install the C2PT memory again and it should then work just fine.

I ended up having to take my computer to a local computer store and they finally found out this problem. Asus never mentioned this issue to me and this is why it took so long.

Ok, I got the point.

There is no pocibility in BIOS to change the timing of FSB : DRAM but you can do it by changing the frequency of RAM.

Now that I set the system to:

- PC330 (2-2-2-5 1T, 3.0V)
- a64 3200+ Venice @ 2,5GHz (1.55V) (=250x10)

BIOS changed the FSB : DRAM from CPU/10 to CPU/12 or better: set the RAM frequency to 208,3MHz and that was what I needed.

Prime95 runs 16h, all ok!
3DMark05 give 5200points for my CPU, thats ok too!

Ram configurations for a8n sli deluxe.
Ok i see alot of people with specific timing and bios settings for their ram, why arnt people using auto?...because it's slow.
Also could someone explain how to find out these settings for the ram chip your running, does it improve preformance if you set them exactly correct ? In Bios.,Yes it does.

You need to read alot about ram timings,

Hey guys

My current system is this:

A8n sli deluxe
64 bit 3700+ san diego
2 gig Crucial ballistix (4x512) 2.2.2.6 on T2
Leadtek 7800gt extreme editon (450/1100)
WD raptor 36gig
Maxtor 80 gig
bios - 1016

and on 3dmark05 1.2.0 im getting 7500 points ... is that about right ?
and also with this T1-T2 memory problem, does it only happen when your trying to clock your memory
over 240? or because i have 4 x 512 ?? just wondering if i could switch it to T1 without any problems

cheers guys, merry christmas :D
