>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
Thinking the hardware clock wasn't working properly, I went through the RMA process and sent the motherboard back to asus. They couldn't find a problem and sent the board back with the bios updated from 1008 to 1013.

Just today, during installation of windows xp pro sp2, the computer would not restart automatically. I had to shut it down by holding in the power button and then start it up again. By doing this twice, I got windows installed successfully, but the same problem occurred in trying to shut the computer down. After giving the shut down command, the computer would hang, and to shut it down I had to force a shutdown by holding in the power button.

Before I returned the board to asus, with bios revision 1008, I had installed windows xp pro sp2 successfully
with no such restart or shutdown problem.

Questions: Is there some setting in the 1013 bios I can make to correct this problem? Or should I reflash to 1008 or another revision? Or is something other than the bios casuing the problem?

Quick Question

What should be the tempature of the chipset on the board ?

My fan died so got a replacment from ASUS but it does not seem to fit as good as the original

My chipset temp in the bios is between 38 and 43 is this OK

I dont remeber what it was the the original fan

Plus if I want to upgrage to the A8N32 sli fan less board could I just olug everthing in and off I go or would I need to reintall windows ?

Although not recommended, is anyone running a Maxtor HDD with this board? I have a 200Gb running on my A7N series which I don't really want to make redundant when I upgrade to my new A8N.

jeez, what a no-brain :-( it's the way the add was written. The Go bit refers to the capacity. As I was scrolling I saw ATA, S-ATA then Go-ATA. Ummmm, sorry [just a bit embarrassed...].

Monty-
Check the Maxtor site for which drives they produce that have problems with the Nforce 4 chipset. Like I said, it isn't a conflict with the A8N SLI Del. specifically, it is a problem with the NF4 chipset. Maximum Pc reports that Maxtor'e latest drive, the 500GB one, has conflicts with the NF4 chipset too and must run at a slower speed. I know of no ther HDD manufacturer whose drives have a NF4 problem.

Never heard of Go-PATA. SATA uses a dedicated channel for each drive

Are you saying that you're getting the A8N SLI? The difference between the two is one less SATA controller, a single ethernet controller instead of two. It has the NF4 chipset and SLI capabilities.

1L-2S usually means a video adapter error. Check that the video card is seated properly, video power cord is installed fully and the monitor cable is inserted fully.

Hi everyone,

I had all kind of troubles with my A8N-Sli Deluxe (chip fan, psu, memory..) but now it's ok. I'm still having some BSOD like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or PFN_ something.. Anyways, I was just wondering about the message I get in the bios when I'm rebooting. It is saying something about no calbe 80 pin connected etc.. (sorry, cant remeber atm). And in the IRQ device listing, I have a lot of NA listed... I wish I could send a picture. Anyways, I can boot normally but those little things are annoying me...

here's my spec :

Plug your speaker or headphone to the green jack of your motherboard. If you did not disable voice error reporting in bios, you should hear what's going on...

Colin-
I am a little confused by your post. I'll answer a ouple of things for you though and then ask some quwestions:
1. 400W is not going to hack it for your rig, although you haven't given us your full specs (See below) so I'm making a guess here.
2. RAM should be in the 1st and 3rd slots, as you move away from the CPU, for dual channel (2 sticks of RAM) and the third slot for single channel (1 stick of RAM). .

Questions:
1. What CPU are your running?
2. What RAM are you running?
3. What are the amps on the 12 volt rails only, it looks like 7 and 9 or something, hard to determine from your post?
4. What hard drives and how many and where are they plugged into?
5. WHat BIOS is on your board?

I am having a problem cause I can't find my copy of XP since I just moved . So I loaded 2k everything seemed ok, but when I loaded my video drivers 81.98 thescreen goes blank and hangs after the 2K screen. I have brought it up in safe mode and the device manager shows that the vidoe cards are there but the second one supposedly has a problem. Is this just the bios issue? I have not updated it. I do have the selector set to dual, and BTW the hardware mounts on some of the components seem like the were made from gum wrappers, they are really flimsy.

I need help bad and fast! I've got my puter back together and am at the point of installing Win xp. I've followed Sander's instructions, have set up my raid array and sata disks everything looks fine. Did the "f 6" thingie during install. No problems. But when installing Win xp when it starts to install then comes time for the first restart. It just gets stuck there, screen says "restarting windows" but it doesn't restart or move on. I shut it down the first time it did this and then did a quick re partition because windows said I had an operating system on it. When I started it back up again the same thing happened......now I'm stuck at "restarting computer"! Thanks for any help !!
