Mike I am really sorry, I just reinstall to get back what I had before. I had installed some things that I thought could be causing the problem and figure if i went back to previous save it would erase them and mabye help wth the problems. All reinstall did was put me 15 mins behind where I was. I redo your walkthrough pretty quick now that I have did it once. Im sorry if you think I offend you but it was not my intention. I have got everything back to where I was after talking wth you. Anyway thank you for everything. I am now in alot better shape than I was before speaking with you.

When you uninstall complete motherboard drivers when trying to get rid of just display drivers, it is quite hard for someone to help that person. Think what you will, you give up to easy!

I just deleted all the display drivers for 71.81 and installed 66.93, when I did that it found alot of new hardware it said, not sure if it was suppose to do that but we shall see how it does here soon.

Edit: After installing other drivers I know have ? beside some devices in device manager under
Multimedia Audio Controller
Other PCI Bridge Device
PCI Memory Controller
SM Bus Controller

Dang, I am having alot of problems

Way better temps with 1.525V instead of 1.55 on the CPU....went from a stable 58C load to 51C. Motherboard is at 38C. XP120/L1A on a 3200+ at 300x8.

Yes mike, i uninstalled all the wrong stuff. I wasnt sure. It said drivers so I did that. Then It removed all those and I seemed screwed. Anyway now that I did everything you said and went back to the nvidia 66.93 drivers CoH seems to be stable. I ran around for about 5 mins and it didnt do any of the things it did before so I am guessing it is fixed. I sure hope so. Just figure I would let you know. I think I am only going to be using the drivers nvidia puts on their main website also from now on.

Greg, try installing a windows update, .net framework and such like. That should help.. I think that the 480 Neopower2 is underpowered, I see its a 460 Watt rated but I also this the deaf of it is the 12Amp and 15Amp rails, way too low, 20 Amps each then your talking business..

The NB temp Vs CPU temps.

I noticed a few post about this since I put a note about it.. I was reading in a forum some where as there are quite a few about this board now, a reply was some ting like this " I contact asus and they said it was a issue to return it and they would replace it that it was a faulty NB or chip..."

The fact is that some of you will find this regarless esp winnie users who may find it hard to hit 30oC.. the boards are KNOWN to have a hot NB (thats the chip with the fan for those who dont know) I do not know the peak temps of the chip I would think it to be around 60oC
You will find that as your CPU temp rises it will also and then level off at around 38oC if you start getting plus 45oC I would then start getting concerned.

Exspensive ram Vs cheap stuff,
take the cheaper, I found it was more stable and had tigher times,

I had zero Issue running the board at stock and it performed well, I had better fun at 2.4 and moderate issue @ 2.6Ghz the issue started @ 2.54 Lets hope that this is not an adverse effect across the FX range which will effect others.

i have 8 sata disks,3 eide disk and a DVD recoder

4 sata disk attached on silicon chip (jbod selection---thx to ghost for the help--)

I would first set the last 2 drives on the NVraid in a raid configuration, then install the IDE 1 Master, and IDE 2 Slave and just your recorder on the secondary. Once you give your two drives a raid home, I feel it will register properly

I had a TerraByte of space on my ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe and ran into a similar situation. You can see some pics of my old and new system at the link below

Just a suggestion!

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI FAQ
I have just installed the mb on my existing system. I unistalled all previous nForce drivers (I had an MSI K8N previously). I've got all of the hardware drivers installed and functioning, but I still cannot connect to the internet. I tried using both the ethernet and USB connections, but nothing happened. It shows that the cables are connected, but I can't get through. I connect my laptop (on which I'm typing this) and everything works fine. I am getting very frustrated with something that's supposed to be as easy as plugging in a cable!

The LED's are blinking orange on the back, so it's connected ok, and receiving data whether I'm on the Marvel or nVidia port. Would this have anything to due with me using an older cable modem? I have the Toshiba PCX1100U. It works great, just not with my new rig...

Please HELP!!!

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (6.39 drivers)
A64 3200+
XFX 6600GT (71.81 drivers)
TrueBlue 480W (I have 20-pin connection, the 12V, and 4-pin PCIe power connected to mb)
Seagate 80GB IDE
Maxtor 40GB IDE
Yamaha CD-RW IDE
Zip Drive
Floppy Drive
USB/Game port adapter
IEEE 1394 adapter
Front of case USB adapters

I don't think it's your modem!

Just a few questions;

Did you release and renew your cable IP when connected to the Marvell and NV?
Do you have SP2 installed with all firewall settings off?
While connected did you remove power from your cable modem wait 1 minutes and then reconnect and reboot?
Do you have a hardware or other software firewall?
Did you try disabling one NIC either the Marvell or NV and connecting your cable to the active one?

Mike after doing everything in your walkthrough I have good news, my 3dMark2005 score went from 8521 to 9220 :) Im sure it could go higher if I knew what I was doing more. All I did was keep the first 2 profiles I saved. I didnt try to do anything else. Hopefully it will run smooth on City of Heroes now. Im about to try it. Also you said you knew what that beep noise was? Mind telling me what it is?

Edit: Spoke to soon, CoH not working :( I updated the drivers back to 71.81 and ran it for a few and it worked. guess I didnt run it long enough. Nvidia needs to get on the ball and get some new nvidia drivers out.

Greg Giles

After running a full bout of 3DMark 05 and getting that score you must be convinced. I can get it higher for you without sacrificing stability. You are only the tenth person I help now and success everytime so far, the post on page 16 works!!!

In regards to your beep, yes I know the sound, not the cure yet, my brain is mush right now.

You changed drivers back to soon, with a little more tweaking it would have been completely stable. Even running 3Dmark 05 the whole way through and playing your game for over an hour or two, you must realize your almost there as you didn't even come close to that before.

As you an I both know there are many variables on a system, this post will help eliminate some of the known and unknown issues you're having. I can assure you that if you follow it, it will help your system, improve your graphics and computer performance and possibly stop issues like freezing and errors. I didn't get $5,000 in equipment and receive just about every error you can get in SLI to give up. I plugged in and
fixed them all, without RMA'ing one product.. It took lots of time, there are many variables.

Well I figured since you used those drivers they must be good and it was mabye something I was doing wrong so I changed them back and redid everything. If I change back to the 66.93 now will that mess up all my settings or does that walkthrough you wrote not use the video drivers in any way. Just your system specs? Thanks

>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI FAQ
I've had my pc up and running for about 5 days now and i'm having stability problems and a few other issues. First off i've set it up with Sander's setting and running BIOS 1003. Sometimes while running a program the computer freezes for about 10 secs then works fine and freezes again and does this repeatedly until I restart the pc. Also when running a program it will get the "Not Responding" message and I'll do Alt+Ctr+Del and end the task but it won't end the task then sometimes it freezes and I have to reboot. While playing some games the game will freeze then i'll get a black screen and the pc will reboot.
Also everything is at stock speeds and the MB is somewhat warm and 37*C stable, the CPU is at 38*C, I read that it may be a faulty NB or chip so i'm going to RAM the motherboard. Both the mouse and keyboard PS/2 ports are also not working. I also read that Sander said the Thermaltake PSUs don't put out the amps they say it will do so could the PSU be an issue or do I just have a bad board?

Here are my complete computer specs:
Microsoft XP Pro SP2
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe with BIOS 1003
Thermaltake Silent PurePower 480W PSU W0010 - Xaser Edition
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 90nm Winchester core
Thermaltake Combo Cool DIY Series TOWER112 Heat Pipe Heat Sink with 90mm fan
(512 X 2)Corsair XMS TwinX DDR400 PC3200 Ram CMX512-3200C2PT
ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256mb GDDR3 Video Card
Leadtek WinFast PVR2000 Capture Card
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Sound Card
(X 2) Maxtor 80gig SATA Hard Drives 6Y080MO no RAID
Plextor 16X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW SATA Drive PX-716SA-SW

I also have 5 usb devices Logitech wireless keyboard, Microsoft optical mouse, Zexmark X5150 printer, Act labs RS Shifter and a Microsoft FF Sidewinder steering wheel.

Any help on this would be greatful.
Thanks,
Cody
