>> Re: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe FAQ
Hi - I am wondering if anyone would be able to help.

I have just recently bought a new PC which is host to the A8N-SLI SE motherboard. I installed a clean install of Win XP Pro with SP2 and everything seemed fine. Recently though, when I try to download programs like AVG Anti Virus from the Internet, I keep getting messages that the files are corrupt, and I need to download a fresh copy. Have done, but same again. The same goes for SiSoftware Sandra, however I did manage to install Ad-Adware OK (incidently no major spyware detected on scan). Trouble is, I want to get an Anti-Virus program installed as quickly as I can, with being on the internet. I have NVIDIA firewall installed.

Also sometimes on Bootup, I get the message "DISK BOOT FAILURE. PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK" If I switch off for 10 mins and reboot, it then loads into Windows. This is a bit alarming, because I don't want to be in the situation, where I will never be able to boot into windows and it becomes more permanent? Any suggestions? Many thanks.

Just a reminder that another, very active, forum on the A8N family of motherboards can be found here:

Spric Lane, I too sometimes get the DISK BOOT FAILURE error too, press ctrl+alt+del and then press F8 when the bios information screens are shown. You can boot off the drive as normal that way.

My board was one of the first in the UK from overclockers in November 2004.

Started getting Chip Fan fail messages - thought it was the CPU fan it was talking about, checked CPU fan, working ok, so ignored chip fan fail to my cost... My Graphics card (Leadtek 6800 GT) burned out. Things were very hot below the card thanks to that pathetic little heatsink on the mobo.

Replaced the chipset fan with an evercool one and things are almost nice now.

Now getting one random lockup occurring with some regularity.

Symptoms, playing a game (Psychonauts, COD2/Teamspeak, CSI 3 dimensions), sound (just the AC97) goes crackly and then silent. Exit game and the sound effect manager is loaded. Click about in the sound effect manager and the system reboots (automatically restart is disabled).

Similar behaviour happened before the 6800 got fried, so I'm worried about my new GFX card.

Have I fried this board, should I get another? Or is it fixable with drivers loaded in the correct order perhaps?

Sorry, Colm - can't answer your question, but I found that the problem I was having was with the Network Access Manager and NVIDIA Firewall. So I uninstalled both and downloaded Zone Alarm instead. Now I don't get any Boot Disk Failures and I can install all programs downloaded from the tinternet. :) My DiamondMax10 SATAII 250GB drive, now on it's last and final written warning, has behaved itself since and is proving very fast and reliable. (touch wood!)

My Chipset fan has begun to act up. It is no longer running at 9000+ for rpm's it now fluctuates from 4000 to 6000 rpm with some lower dips. What do I need to do?

Board is an ASUS A8N Sli-deluxe rev 1.02

Depends on a few things. Do you want to replace it or fix the one you have?

Didn't think that I could fix it so I'm leaning for replacement. I was thinking of the Zalman Passive Heatsink, the blue one. From whay I have been able to find out about it is that it had been used many times and works well.

I have and A8N-SLI and i've seen people replacing the nf4 fan with the heatpipe asus sells for the premium (the steel one) but they also sell a copper one for the A8N32. will the copper one fit on a regular A8N? also, anybody buy a 6800 GS lately and find that they went extinct in 2 weeks?
thanks

I have the Antec TX640B that comes with the Cool and Quiet 400W psu. Is that sufficient to run this mobo? I have a 6800GT and think that I might need a bigger psu, especially if I want to go SLI.

John,
Yes you really need a power supply with some juice. I use a 550 Watt with 28 amps on the +12 rail in SLI with no problems,

Hi,

I just replaced my northbridge fan which seems to have gone fine but now I'm getting no sound - it says there is no audio device detected. I've checked the bios settings and thats all fine, and reinstalled the drivers from the disk but its still not working. Any other tips?

Hey all-
Sorry to interrupt but anyone interested in competing in this years Forum Wars who has an Asus A8N series board please feel free to come on over to the Asus Independent site in my signature and sign up. I have 3 full teams of 5 players each but will add another if you all can get enough Asus folks to sign up. I was a frequent poster here awhile back and just thought I'd extend the offer as I know there won't be a team here this year. You don't need a super rig either. That's it and thanks for listening.

Hey Monty, how are you mate? Hope the rig is doing well. Check in and say hi at the new site!

After hours of frustration, installations, new drivers etc I still have 2 main problems with this motherboard:

1) Nvidia firewall makes the computer crash every time I enable it.

2) The BIOS is reset every time I unplug the computer.

Any ideas? (the nvidia firewall would be good to have in my opinion as it would save processing load of the CPU).
