Hi there,
Read your posting with great interest as I recently built a system with the above components. During the POST I got one long, two short beeps and no video. After weeks of writing into forums and checking internet sites I tried everything, replacing parts (graphics card, memory, power supply etc...etc..., barebone checks.... absolutely everything, except up-dating the BIOS. I am currently using 1 off GeForce 6200 instead of the paired 6800GT's to simplify things.

I just wanted to ask if your advice on flashing the BIOS would work if I have no video to see whats going on?

With Michael's permission I'd like to post a link to our Asus Independent Forum. It deals strictly with Asus mobo issues, with emphasis on the A8N series, and is a much better tool than this thread (I have probably 300+ posts on this thread so I should know).

We made the forum because tech support for the A8N series is so lacking. This now way too long thread is probably the best source of info out there but has become to unwieldy to be of any real use. AI fills the gap.

Registration is easy and there are a bunch of good guys there to help. Just follow the link.

>> Uninstalling Chipset Drivers
Hello everyone,

First of I'm getting a new CPU tomorrow and needing to flash the bios for the MB but when I went to ASUS website to download the newest bios and chipset driver it says I need to install the newest chipset drivers before flashing the bios.

I'm having trouble uninstalling the chipset drivers for my mobo. I removed them in the add/remove in the control panel and used Driver Cleaner Pro to make sure there removed. But when I install the newest version it finishes and restarts the pc. It restarts again when trying to load windows and I get the message like Windows failed to load and was shut down to prevent damage and it gives me choices to start in safe mode, last known working, or start windows normally.

Here are my system specs:

ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
AMD 64 3200+ Single Core Winchester (Upgrading to AMD Opteron 185 Dual Core)
1 gig (2 X 512MB) Cosair XMS PC3200 Model: Twinx1024-3200C2PT
2 X Seagate Barracuda 80 GB SATA150 Hard drives
ATI Radeon X700 Pro Video Card
Creative SB Audigy 2 Sound card
Leadtek PVR2000 Video Recorder

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cody

I have an A8N32SLI- Deluxe board running I think the nVidia Raid with two raptor HDs I flashed my bios to version 1205 using the asus update program and rebooted the computer,

On the screen it said bad checksum for a second until I hit another key and then now I can boot it says

Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press any key.

How do I fix this?

{Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press any key.]

It appears that the reflash changed the boot sequence you had listed in the BIOS setup program. Run the BIOS Setup program and verify all settings, in particular making sure the boot device sequence is in proper order, and that the C:\ boot drive is the first in list of the HDD sequence.

That was close, actually it deselected my SATA options, I thought I was using the Nvidia raid? but when I enable the SATA 1-4 everything worked again. I still don't understand this.

Hello everyone. I'd appreciate some help with a problem I'm having.
When I power on my system I get a "No signal to Monitor" error on my screen.
I have a self-built system:
ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe
GV-NX66T256D (Geforce 6600 GT) x1
AMD Athlon 64 3200

Ok first of all. I had this same problem about 6 months ago. It started a month or so before it happened then, but after I tried starting it a few times it would work, so I just left it until it wouldn't work at all. I had nowhere to test any of the parts, and not knowing whether it was the PS, MB or video card, I took it into a shop where they could test it. The PS was screwed, but replacing the PS alone didn't fix it. The video card worked in a different system, but a new video card didn't work in mine, so I bought a new PS and MB. I took them home, installed them and everything worked fine for about 6 months. It stopped working last week, and I tried a few things. It eventually worked when I put the video card in my second PCIexpress slot, but once I powered down it wouldn't start again, regardless of how I arrange it.

I've checked all the cables, the monitor, reseated the GFX card multiple times, and cleared my CMOS. I even re-applied the thermal paste on my CPU.

I don't want to take it into the shop, buy another MB and have it only work for a few months. Also, I have no car, and taking my tower on the train and carrying it to a computer shop is a huge, painful hassle. Any help would be appreciated greatly. I live in Japan and my computer is the only thing I have in my cubicle of an apartment. I may not need it for work, but I need it to live.

I apologize for asking a question that I'm sure has come up before. But with over 5000 replies to this FAQ and no way to search in the thread, I have to re-ask the question. I would greatly appreciate any help.

eric, that type of things occurs frequently when you make upgrades, so it is imperative that you always go into the bios on the first restart after making changes. Then you have to look very close to make sure everything is the way you want before starting again. Last time it changed my LAN choice, undid my raid-0, but did not change boot sequence. Of course it would not boot until I got it changed back. Oh the fun of it all.

Michael Rogers,
You say you have checked your cables, but not exactly sure what this means. Have you swapped out the video cable with another? A bad cable can give all knds of irregular results, sometimes working and sometimes not. I would try a cable swap before buying any more parts.

Thank you for the prompt reply David.
And sorry for any confusion. I have not replaced any cables. I didn't consider this because when I had the same problem before, and I took it in to get tested, it didn't work on the monitor at the store. And when I replaced the MB it worked again. I was fairly sure it wasn't the monitor. Now I am just searching for anything that would mean I don't need to buy a third MB in a year and a half.

System is

XP Home SP2
A8N SLi Delux
Radeon x800
2 x 200Gig Samsung SATA HD
1 120 WD IDE HD
1 Gig DDR Cas 2.5 Mem
Athlon 4.6 X2 and Mine CPU Cooler
Corsar 520W PSU
CPU Temp is around 32C

Swapped CPU, old bios didn't recognise Dual Core so flashed bios to 1016 (which was a nightmare as I didn't have a FD drive in my PC, and had to borrow one)

Bios now recognises new CPU ok, system boots fine, installed windows but now get the BSOD 0X0000009C (0X00000004 0X8054D5F0 0XB2000000 0X0070F0F) errors, Ive tried reinstalling windows on both SATA and IDE drives, same problem. Updated all chipset drivers. Swapped PSU. same problem. Have tested the memory with Memtest.

It always seems to crash when Im writing to the hard disk or copying files from one drive to an other. Can anybody please help?

Just replying as i resolved an issue which i mentioned earlier on my own, i was ignored on the forum as noone seemed to know what was wrong, turned out was nothing to do with the motherboard. Was probably a surge that fried my video card. Issue resolved, when in doubt test with another video card....

I had this problem and it drove me crazy. It turns out the problem wasn't a problem at all. I had a Logitech Multimedia keyboard and the volume control was there right on the keyboard. What an idiot I felt.

I've had problems with freezing in games & thought I'd share my experiences with you other A8N owners. My system would crash within a couple of minutes of gaming or 3DMark. I have changed every single component possible & testing has revelaed the problem is my Opteron 170 CPU. I tried it in a DFI SLI mobo & had the same problem, but it worked fine in my Abit A8N Ultra, though could only run single card in this setup. I think the memory controller must be the problem because on the A8N Premium it would say installed memory 2048 but only 1750ish usable memory (same with the DFI), though could access the full 1GB when I used 2x 512MB Geil modules (still crashed though). The Opty was dual prime95 stable @ 2.5 in the Premium, was only 3D games that would crash it. From what I've seen there are plenty of ppl out there runnin the 170 in the Premium mobo, & I've RA'd the board twice already so its not just this one, unless I'm really unlucky. I'm using BIOS ver 1013. The system seems to be running fine now with a X2 4200, scored 7700 `06 3DMarks with cpu @ 2.5 (10x250), CPU score was actually a bit higher than the Opty @ 2.5, but I wanna use it cus of the extra cache. I haven't got the time to go through this huge thread to see if this issue has been explored before, so any help form you owners with a similar setup would be much appreciated.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe BIOS v1805
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB GDDR3
Corsair 2x1024+2x512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
Maxtor 6B200M0
Maxtor 6L200SD

Problem with sound.

I'm using the onboard sound card, but I'll be buying a separate one if I can't manage to fix this. I'm a musician and you could even call me a sound freak, so it's very important that it works correctly.

Right. The deal is, when I have my speakers or headphones plugged normally in the rear panel green audio jack ("front speaker", which I gather is supposed to be the standard stereo jack), it produces sound, but only from one speaker. The weird thing is when I plug it in only about 3/4 way through, the sound comes from the other speaker, and when I plug it about half way through, I hear sound from both speakers, but very shallow mono sound. Note that this is in "stereo speakers" mode, thus I get no sound from the other rear panel audio jacks.

In "surround sound" mode, I get the same thing as above when my speakers are plugged in the rear panel (green) "front speaker" audio jack, that is, mono sound. But this time I also get sound from the (gray) "rear speaker" jack, from both speakers and it's stereo, only, the volume is too low for me to use it. Again, no sound is produced from the other rear panel jacks.

On the other hand, when I have my speakers or my headphones plugged in the front panel audio jack, I get bad sound. In fact, I can actually hear the activity inside my computer through the headphones, like when a CD is spinning. I get stereo sound though, and in both speakers, but the sound channels are for some reason inverted. I don't care about the front panel though, it's the rear that I need functional.

I've pretty much ruled out software, since I've been installing and uninstalling a bunch of different drivers, from the Asus to the nVidia ones for a while now. I've also tried all possible sound modes. All I need a fully audible, clean stereo sound that comes out from both speakers.

Please... help.
