Ok . . .
I am beginning to believe that my motherboard has kicked the bucket.

It is the A8n-SLI Deluxe and it refuses to pass beyond the POST. I have ruled out RAM, PSU, Video Card, Peripherals, Hard Drives, and Memory all by switching them with different parts and it still not working. So, short of going out and getting another motherboard (or system) I have come here to see if anyone has another solution I might be able to try.

System is (right now):
Motherboard
AMD X2 4200+
512Mb Generic Ram
XFX 7950GT
Kingwin 650 Watt PSU

And thats it, nothing else is connected to avoid conflict, but still it freezes on post. It registers the RAM at 266 MHz rather than at its 400Mhz and it shows the size, then it shows the 'chipset: Nforce 4' line and completely stops. I have been having some random BSOD 0xD1 errors for a while and have been trying to isolate the issue, but I think I have finally found it.

Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Of all the things ive lost, I miss my mind the most.

A few months ago My chipset fan died on me on my A8N-Sli Deluxe so i googled and found the zaleman northbridge chipset hs fits perfectly. Now i was just lookign to upgrade to an 8800GTS and when iw as looking at pics i realized its a 2 slot and it looks like my northbridge hs would get in the way of it. Anyone know if tehres a 8800GTS that would fit or would i have to change my chipset hs.

>> Help with o/c my memory - a8n sli deluxe
I have been using my a8n sli deluxe since Jan 07. It has an Opteron 165 which I currently have running on the stock h/s fan at 2.6. Very stable and works well.

I have been using Kingston Value Ram 2 512 sticks since Jan as well. I keep the memory set to automatic and cpu-z reports it as follows:

Frequency - 187.7
Timing 3-3-3-6
Bank Cycle - 19
2T
Idle Timer -16

In Sisoft Sandra, my memory seems to have a low score:

Int Buffered: 3624
Int Float: 3633

My Superpi 1m numbers are 34 sec.

I just purchased 2x1024 Crucial sticks which are their standard line. They have 5b F chips.

They are at auto in the bios and report in CPU-Z:

Freq: 185.8
CPU/14
3-3-3-6
Bank Cycle - 19
2T
Idle Timer -16

My Bus Speed = 289
HT Link = 867.1

I tried to o/c my kingston value ram by setting the memory to ddr400 in the bios. The machine would not boot.

I don't know how to overclock ram, but I believe I am not getting very good results with my settings now. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I found dozens of posts of people complaining about this problem with no resolution. The Si3114 raid utility just would not setup for Raid0 so I went ahead and installed XP hitting F6 to load an external SATA driver during the initial installation and it went ahead with the install. I had the driver on a diskette.

Got a question about SATA hot-swapping/hot-plugging.

Just got a Seagate 320gb Barracuda 7200.10 SATA Drive and put it in a AMS DS-136SSBK Mobile Rack. The rack has a power button on the front to turn the HD off. If the drive is on during boot-up then Windows has no problem seeing the drive and allows me to turn the drive off and on when I need it (it treats it like a external drive).

My problem is that if the drive is off when I boot up, then Windows just locks up when I turn the drive on. Is there anyway to fix this or am I SOL? :/

Wanted to use this as a nice quick back-up drive that I could turn on only when I needed it

Probably Damn fed up of seeing problems with this board but I'm the latest victim who may be iut of depth with this board.

I've heard the best way to get this board runnin smoothly is to manualy enter the specs in the BIOS.

Heres My Lineup

1. ASUS A8N-SLi Premium
2. AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Manchester Core)
3. IDE Maxtor 40gb, 2x Seagate Baracuda 1x160gb, 1x80gb
4. WinPower 750W Power Supply
5. 4 x Micron RAM @ 512mb, DDR400
6. Optorite CD-RW
7. Samsung SH183-L DVD-RW

The BIOS states "Revision 1011 & 1001" I'm very sceptical about updating the BIOS with this Board, I've heard things can go seriously wrong & its only worth updating if Essential.

Basically My Probelm is:

If I setup RAID (SATA or Standard) the setup goes through the copying files process asks for addtional devices to be installed etc. I've Tried installing with & without the (F6) Raid Drivers & at the end of the file copy process, I receive a message saying "Setup is Entering Windows" & then it freezes (No response from keyboard) the blue windows screen (not the Blue screen of Death)

If I disable the RAID the setup copies the files then restarts itself.

Any Ideas.......?

My problem is as soon as i do something labor intensive or pull a bunch of data from another drive my computer dies. Let me be more specific, the screen goes black, the computer stays running but i can't do anything except manually reboot it to get it back to where it was. I moved and should have packed all the components individually but didn't. It did this before, and i ran scan disc and that seemed to clear it up. I really am not sure where the problem is. i have a secondary drive and primary, its done it when both drives were being accessed. here are my specs.

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS EN6600GT/TD/128 GeForce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card (only one used to run two but one of the bastards died on me)
PLEXTOR DVD Burner Black SATA Model PX-712SA/SW-BL
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823AS 250GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Newcastle 2.4GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3800AWBOX
Microsoft XP x64 edition
Transcend 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model TS2GDDR400K
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

>> SLI PROBLEMS!
Hello, I've searched the forum and I find bits and pieces but could anyone please point me in the right direction on a "how-to" or walkthrough on correctly enabling SLI? Or maybe make suggestions on how to get it working?

Here's my problem and applicable specs:

A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 64 at 2GHZ
XP Pro - not 64 bit version
2 - NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra Video Cards bridged with SLI
2 - 512 Ram
Antec 550 PSU

Right now, I'm finding that not being in SLI mode is leaps and bounds better than being in SLI mode. This hasn't always been the case, as I have had SLI working at one point. Not sure what happened.
I have done a clean boot, I've monitored the temperatures and they are okay. I've re-installed the drivers for my cards. I'm using version 6.14.11.6218 right now. In BIOS, I set it for auto. Not sure how to set up BIOS exactly. When I play the game Oblivion with the load balancing feature set, it shows a vertical line at the far left of the screen and says "Sli". I remember at one point the line wasn't vertical, it was a horizontal line and it sat around the middle of the screen. The thing that kills me is that it used to work and now I can't get it to work right.
The problem on the screen is that there is alot of blotchy snow-like blinking squares during the game and the videos "bounce" up and down, and are altogether screwed up. When I turn of Sli, everything is okay again. Does anyone know a functional driver version that I might try or have any advice?

I really appreciate your help. Thanks, Ronnie

>> Re: SLI problems
I will say that after trying each card in the main slot, I have determined that one works better than the other! I have concluded that one of my cards is a dud. Luckily, I registered the card with EVGA so I might get lucky and get an RMA. So to anyone seeking info on this problem I would definitely say try each card individually BEFORE trying SLI to make sure they work! Seems stupid, but it has taken me a while to figure even this out. Thanks to this forum for help with this mobo.

Hans, you will not likely ever get satisfactory results using three sticks of memory. This board is somewhat finicky in memory tolerance already, and you will not get such combo to work in dual channel anyway. It is quite possible that the memory timing settings in BIOS for the twin sticks and the larger single stick are not ideal for them them to work together.

I'd recommend using the single 1024 stick alone if you feel it is the better memory of the types you own. If you need additional memory, get another matching stick.

Hi I First need to explain my Rig but I am having some issues id like help with if any can offer.

Here is is. Antec 900 gamers case With 1 200MM Antec tri cool Green led Fan And 4 Antect Green led fans with 3 speeds. Motherboard Asus A8n 32x Sli Deluxe With 4 gigs Corsair CL2 Memory
DUAL SLI CONFIGURED 7950 GX2 Running Quad SLI with latest Drivers, and beta SLI drivers from nvidia.
Creative Sound blaster Audigy 4 PRO with I/O box

Winxp Pro64bit

And when i built this I was hoping to have room for my sound card, dual gpus, and Ageia Physx unit. But the pysx unit wont fit cause the dual 7950s take up a PCI slot because of their monster engines//

My question is this,, My computer used to have all same componets except dual 7950, and the asusu motherboard. I was using abit an8 32x sli Deluxe motherboard. that mother board failed, i RMA it like 4 months and havent heard nothing from Abit. Any way MY Problem is Now since i switched to the ASUS board. I cant get MY Audigy 4 Pro I/0 Box to get Any power or turn on. I hope my box isnt damaged cause it was working before i switched to the ASUS. but hers the weird part the Creative sound card for the audigy 4 pro it works and i can use my speakers, but no box., Anyone else having this ISSue, and does anyone know how to ADD PCI slots to this moterboard, so i can USe my Ageia Physx unit, or at least a way to Rise up te PCI slot that is available but to crouded down below by the GPU fans. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
