seriously now, does it have to be so difficult?

isnt there some one out there that could just design a TOWER around the current ATX? especially if space isnt an issue, case manufacturers could design anything. instead of tradition, someone could put the MB tray in any position they want and in an up right position still. ANYone can make their own stupid duct/heatsink specially designed to their tower. so why the hell NOT?

i'm actually thinking of morphing one of my own towers and starting something exciting. why cant manufacturers do something like that instead of waiting another decade for someone to come out with a half ass intelligent idea; atleast temporarily there can be substitutes made. there's just so many possibilities with the current form factor. we dont have to wait for Intel to make something out of their butts.

Intel is designing solutions to further benefit thermally advantageous cases.

The ATX form factor has hit its limit, especially in small form factor systems.

Would you prefer that, or forcing everyone to go with a closed loop liquid cooling solution?

i dont know. obviously liquid cooling isnt good for the average moderate user. but i was thinking i'll whip out the blow tourch and whip up something new. MWA HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA

Easiest solution would be a case that's less wide, but taller.

Instead of positioning the drives in front of the motherboard, they're either moved on top or below of it. The PSU either stays at the top or moves to the bottom.

What this would allow you to do is move the motherboard directly up against the front of the case, which you could then use to duct the CPU's heatsink without any problem.

Either that or turn that entire design upside down and have a fan that blows upward coming from the bottom of the case.

haha, i'm getting so excited i cant contain myself. lol

i like those ideas. i was thinking maybe i could use the back openings to put the duct intake since its closest to the cpu. then i could move my optic drives to the bottom bays and use the top bay and case ceiling for exhaust.
i dont know, but it excites me lol

Well, the problem with using the rear fan holes for intake is that the PSU exhausts very close to it.

Unless of course you want to reverse the PSU's fan to intake, then duct the other side to exhaust out the top.

what about the type of airflow on the apple g-5? frankly it was quite a good idea....

why limit oneself to a single intake outake system when you can have separate intakes and outakes for groups of components? i would think that dedicated cooling for small groups of componenets could make use of silent fans more effectively

that sounds cool, no i havent seen the g5's design. although i was thinking of making isolated ducts for a couple strategic places

basically theres 3 separate intakes at the front....

one deals with the motherboard and cpu, one with optical drives and gfx and the last one with HDD and the psu all outakes at the back, uses lots of 'silent' 80mm fans neat idea tho it was kinda big since its dual processor

The G5 design isn't all too great.

They copied the LianLi PC-1000.

Here's a PC thrown into a G5 case: http://www.overclockers.com/tips1133/

lol

Here's the LianLi case: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-1...amp;depa=1

that lian li is exactly what i was talking about! i guess that means i cant paten it then, haha

that's exactly what i wanted to do with the motherboard, keep the hotter components at the bottom.
except it has vents at the bottom, if there's enough heat, the heat will push colder air out

Hmmm there's a case review with an bottom situated upside-down mobo alignement with a special duct over the CPU/NB with 2 120mmm fans and an extra 80mm intake above those while the psu& harddrives "upstairs" in the case.
the duct did wonders for pc temps.

I'll try finding that review again.

That Silverstone WindTunnel?

The whole upside down concept is kinda lame.

i just like the exploration approach. with the reversal thing it's kinna cool cause u can keep the cpu in the lower temps of the case. plus, with the cpu at the bottom there's more space to add a dedicated intake from the front of the case.
i dont know about the windtunnel. it's an idea though

but now matter where it's placed, i think they could make a custom heatsink/duct just like the stupid btx design

what if they left a thin space between the case wall and the motherboard rack. they could place a fan right underneath the processor on the opposite side of the board... lol i dont know

nevermind the lian li, i was looking closer at it's design and it defeats the whole purpose cause they ended up elevating the cpu to the top anyway. the silverstone made more sense

Is it just me or in the micro-BTX preview that Sander did, is the 92mm fan blowing OUT the front of the case? I'm all for being warm, but that breeze would just irritate me.

Sincerely,
Kash

LoL, it would be a great furnace durring winter time... but that would defeat the whole purpose, right? i thought it's supposed to cross cool the cpu then pass over the chipset and fill the case.

either way, the hot air from the processor would heat the rest of the case
