Hi,

Is there anything called 'invertor' or 'inverter' in a notebook that help the screen works?
If yes, I am trying to find one for my toshiba satellite 3005-S307.

Pls advise.

if your power invertor has blown then its best to send it away for repair because then you get to keep your warrenty/insurance.
the power invertor for the lcd screen powers the back light, very basicly it converts power from the battery to the right sort of power the light needs, and what sort of spec it follows is totallly dependant on the backlight spec and how bright its meant to be.

My warranty has expired and I live currently in France (bought the notebook from the US 3 years ago) where maintenance is very expensive. (more around 120 US dollar just for checking the laptop).

My laptop inverter is not blown; The issue is that from time to time my laptop screen goes black and I need to open my laptop, move a little bit the little cable coming from the inverter to the vga port and all goes right again; Sometimes, my laptop goes black few times over and I repeat my actions few times then the screen will work fine.

A technician I know advised me to change the inverter coz he thinks that it is the one who is causing the problem. Today, I started my laptop and no black screen; In fact, I am using it now that i am typing this message.

The inverter on my laptop has no serial number whatsover; google got me some links in the US and in the UK and I mailed them. The technician I know told me that an inveter should not cost more than 10 US dollars but the one I found on the net cost up to 50.

hmmm sounds like a dry connection to me! do you have access to a soldering kit? if your not ok with soldering is your technician friend willing (or able) do solder it for you?

My theor on this sort of stuff is sound but unfortunatly i dont have a source for components

Actually, he worked on it last week. It worked fine for a few days than came back to the usual time-to-time black screen.

I need to say that there aren't much professional technicians even in the largest companies.

I am waiting for some replies from spare parts companies in the US and in the Uk hoping to find a new inverter. I will invest in a new inverter hoping that it would solve the problem.

Resoldering for dry joint is not required, there is a spary that work the same and make the connection work.

You may fin the the problem is the LCD not the invertor, Normaly check the laptop in a monitor to see if there are any issues with the graphics card. if not cjeck the screen using a brite light to see if when it is black that it either showing or not showing any details. if it is then its either the inverter or the cathods (i dont fit cathods before anyone asks) I have them also they are realy over priced and getting a new LCD would be more cost effectve (theres about £40 difference)

check the cables thought out to make sure there is a good connecion across the system, you may find you have a lose cable.

Inverter toruble can be caused by a bad battery as well. so take note of this also.

Hope you guys don't mind me butting in, but I'm having the same problem with my laptop. Worse, no one seems to have heard of a Cicero, D620S, laptop. I think it was made my Sharp, but I'm not sure. Can anyone tell me where I might get an invertor for this laptop and how much its likely to cost installed? Thanks!
