Hi Joey

The beeps you are hearing (endless loops) are most likely, overheating CPU, or badly seated Memory.
This depends on the type of Bios you have, here are the Award bios beeps
and a link for other types of Bios....at the bottom of this post

Beeps Error Message Description
1 long
2 short Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.

Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.

1 long
3 short No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
High frequency beeps while running Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.

Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged.

Here is a link for most bios beeps in general use nowadays, and possible causes.

Hope this helps

so what if he has only one DIMM of memory seated? or that his video isnt seated properly... and you can still load the OS even though they are not seated all the way in?

Sounds strange, When you get to the XP login screen windows is actually already running, it just loads a profile after login. So the noise stops once windows drivers are loaded. Perhaps some dos based software or virus. Could even be a bios alarm setting. Check all your bios settings especially any alarms for fan speed, check your autoexec.bat file and config.sys file for dos driver entries. You can access them by going to start-run then type msconfig . Are you using overclocking software that comunicates with the bios? This could set off alarms but I wouldn't think that would happen before windows boots. These are just guesses but error beep codes as described in a prior post usually end in a failure to boot and don't stop just because windows starts.
