I have heard that CRT monitors are better for gaming, they have a faster refresh rate. I dont know much about monitors, help is appreciated. What monitor is best?

It really depends on your budget. CRTs are far cheaper than LCDs. If you have $500-$600 you can get a bargain LCD that is fairly decent. Or you could spend $200 on a nice CRT

the pixels on a LCD appear to "LAG" in comparison to even a bad CRT. the process which a LCD screen uses to show the picture, is more like morphing from one frame to another, where as a CRT shows individual frames; resulting in cleaner and clearer picture. a good LCD arn't too bad with the "lagging". and a CRT is big and heavy but alot cheaper. so as far as "gaming" goes a CRT is better and better value. but as far as style and size goes the LCD is better... so if you dont have lots of cash and alot of desk space get a CRT.. however if you have lots of ca$h go for a GOOD LCD screen

If you plan on getting an LCD, get a moniter that has a Response Time(Refresh Rate) under 20 ms, the faster the response time the more frames per second if its compared to a CRT, I myself just bought http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-1...amp;depa=0 and in my opinion its worth the 400 dollars! Newegg had it sent to me within 2 days which was nice! Response Time on it is 8ms, making it one of the quickest out there. My friend has the 17" inch of theirs without the DVI and he luvs it! Its an amazing LCD if you ask me! CRT's once beat out the LCD in gaming but now the market is slowly shifting. LCD's have come down in price over the past years and have been getting much better. There Response time is much quicker than it use to be and thats why a lot of people are switching to them.

I agree with all of the above. I want to add that although CTRs are better in some ways, the LCDs kick when someone watches you play, or when you just settle down and stare at your computer, much better in comparision to the CTRs

LCD's look the best.......... when they are turned off, as in advertisement pics

CRT's look best when they are both turned on, looking @ them face on, w/ action on the screen in real life situations, (except for very bright ambient light conditions)

IMHO

I recently bought an LCD (LG L1730S), and i've got to say its a much better experience playing games - images are MUCH crisper and colours more vibrant. I get eye strain everytime i sit in fornt of a mates CRT nowdays.
Its just SO much better on the eyes that i'll be hard pressed recommending a CRT to anybody unless budget restrictions are tight. Also theres no flickering on lcds.

for that kind of money i would just buy a nec 20.1" lcd with 1600x1200 resolution. besides the veiwing angle is better, plus its the same price.

As good as any crt eh? hmm i think not. 2048x1536 res is getting common even on $300-$400 crts. and thats canadian $

lcd displays only beat a crt in two areas .. style and size.. no not "bulky" size.. but display size.. how many 40+inch crts screens have you seen??

Do you even know what HD is?

The standard for HD broadcast television is 1920 by 1080 i. (1080i)

The marketing people have bastardized the term HD to mean anything above 640 by 480.

If you buy a plasma tv, or a HD LCD tv, get ready for a SURPRISE. Most of the LCD/Plasma tvs marketed as HD only support resolutions like 1280 by 1024 (4:3) or 1280 by 720 (16:9). This is a FAR CRY (ha, ha) from the true spec of 1920 by 1080. It used to be that these bullshit resolutions were called ED, for enhanced definition. But the marketing bastards got their way, as they always do. It's the same reason your 80 GB HD has only 74.5 GB.

And my CRT can do 2048 by 1536, it cost about $220 a year and a half ago.

TRUE HD is 1920 by 1080p, or 1920 by 1080i (16:9), or 1440 by 1080 i or 1440 by 1080p (4:3)

Any display capable of handling those modes is an HD display. Any display NOT capable of those modes is not. My $220 monitor from a year and a half ago is an HD display. I have only seen a few HD LCD monitors.

Here's a nice high res LCD.

Too bad the lowest price I can find is $5400...

LCDs are inferior technology.
