Hello

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with a built in WIFI card. My router is D Link. The wireless connection only seems to work if my computer is plugged into power source, IE, the WIFI does not work when I am using the laptop on battery alone. Does anyone know why this may be?

Power saving mode? What the hell would be the point of that? I doubt that they would design it so that
you CAN'T use wireless when you need it the most! If you're plugged into AC power, you might as well use
wired! Only having wireless when you're plugged in completly negates the usefulness of wireless...

Of course, it is Dell, so who knows...

is there a bios setting that disables the wireless when its not connected to ac power? maybe a setting in windows power management (in control panel)

oh and being plugged in does not completly defeat the purpose, say if you want to share one internet connection around the whole house, a wireless network would mean you wouldnt have to drill holes!

Error 34:
There was no error

Nevertheless it would be retarded of Dell (or Microsoft) to implement such a useless feature (esspecially if it is set by default)

Well G brace yourself coz yes there is such a setting in Windows that turns the device off to save power.

Justin it could be that you also have the power management enabled...
Heres how to disable the power management for network devices:

Go to Control Panel>Sytem
Under the Hardware Tab select Device manager...

In the Device Manager, go down to Network Adapters and expand the category...you should see a list of network devices present

Right Click on the Networking controller that you use...and go to properties

Under Properties select the Power Management Tab

Deselct the option to "Allow the computer to turn off device to save power"

Click OK and that should do the trick.

Thanks for the tip - I went into the control panel and found everything I needed and changed the setting but it still does not work

not sure if I did something wrong but it does not seem that way, it was really pretty simple

Definetly the issue is related to power just try your friends laptop whether it works or not ,if ur friends laptop works then definetly the issues is with ur laptop, if not change the routers settings by entering in routers settings just check it we will exactly come to know what is the issue.
