The main SLI page say's they had to use a 4000 or FX to get twin GT's up and running stable in SLI mode,is this true?

i seriously doubt that, think about it, not much to give between amd 64 3500+ (mine :D) and a 4000+ aside form like 100-200 mhz and an extra 512k L2 Cache.

You may be thinking about Unreal Engine 3 which need a FX-55 and 2 x 6800 ultra as it needs a DX 9.0c card for Shader Model 3.0 but do not buy SLI atm wait for gf 7 then you will get the best for UT 2006 HL3 Quake 5 lol na seriously tho for games using Unreal engine 2 or 2.x or 2.5 e.g Republic commando, Brothers in arms, and loads others, most of their sequals may well use ue3. So wait till gf 7 DO NOT BUY ATI

nVidia 4 1IF3!
