Actually X800XL competes 6800"ULTRA", it is much better than 6800GT, and cost "CHEAPER" than 6800GT

"Comparing the card to the 6800GT and performance in our tests show both to be in equal footing in a few tests and the XL taking the lead in a few others, this would normally make for an tough choice when deciding which to buy...maybe basing your decision on who's drivers you prefer. In the case of the XL vs GT though the choice for us is pretty clear cut. +++With a retail price of $100 less than a 6800GT the X800XL is great value for money+++ and in our option the best bang for buck of any card currently available."

PCGEEK, I'm not a ATI fanboy. I don't really care about the X800XL or the 6800GT. I was just saying that I didn't know that the X800XL could keep up with the 6800GT and even come out in front of it. Honestly I thought the 6800GT was out of it's league.

Stop posting you 3dmarks scores!!!! I only get 13kish with my video card. ROAR!

>> Re: 6800GT OC vs X800XL
Hi guys,

Im new to this forum.
I have a 6800gt with nv5 cooler.
and all i can say is this graphics card is awesome.

STANDARD NVIDIA DRIVERS SUCK 4SS
at the beggining i was very dissapointed with this card i spent £300 which doesnt even run DOOM3 smoothly i wanted to take it back. I spent hours trying to modify the Nvidia drivers to run games smoothly and it didnt work.

I done some research and found the XG 75.90 drivers from
http://www.tweaksrus.com :D
Try this and it will BLOW you away. If fan and heatsink are uprated on the 6800GT it will also blow the X850pt when mildly overclocked and if you think im exagerating IM NOT. ;)

After Removing all my nvidia drivers and installing the XG 75.90 i looked at the Nvidia graphics settings and there was an overclocking option. There was a button which detects the 3D overclock limit i selected it, the software said i could run 450mhz core so i actually ran 430 to be on the safe side. Enabled it and my idle temperature was 56.5 deg stock its 55 with my cooler.

I Ran Doom3 after this and all i can saw is WOW. The graphics card handled doom3 as if it was nothing.
So i thought ok max out the graphics settings set it on ULTRA detail resolution 1280x1024 @75hz

Your all comments are based on a single game i.e., DOOM-3. And its true that Nvidia 6800 series loves DOOM-3.

We all know that 6800GT is good card, but sure X800XL is slightly better than Nvidia 6800GT at stock and is cheaper.

Well u haven't tried X800XL (or i assume u havent' seen even a single review of X800XL) thats why the comments you made are in the favour of Nvidia 6800GT.

I am saying again, sure NVIDIA 6800GT is good card, so 'no' flaming

I had it on 450mhz for a few hours and it handled it fine......... I think i can get 500mhz easily.
On full graphics load my 6800gt doesnt exceed 68-70 deg.
So theres plenty of room. I want more efficiency then speed. Asus are bringing out 512mb dual 6800ultra core graphics card ive actually seen it heheh, if im p**sin on X850PT's with this GT think of what that Dual core baby can do :D
i think there is a link in 3dguru not sure.

Im not mocking the X850PT its a good card at stock but its also £130 more than my card
you cant beat nvidia on performance per Mhz or performance per £
If you talkin about stock the X850pt will beat the 6800gt but its common sense they run on
500+mhz core speed and 6800gt is at 350+mhz

Best comparison is at tbreak.com, where they measure "bang for your buck" - negative figures are worse:

Doom 3: 1280x1024 (AA:4x/AF:16x)

Product Score Price Graph Difference
ATI x800XL 39.40 299
ATI x800XT 44.10 399 -16%
nVidia 6800GT 41.20 399 -22%
MSI 6600GT SLI 37.30 398 -29%
nVidia 6800GT SLI 60.90 798 -42%

Far Cry: 1280x1024 (AA:4x/AF:16x)

Product Score Price Graph Difference
ATI x800XL 43.30 299
ATI x800XT 48.06 399 -17%
MSI 6600GT SLI 35.81 398 -38%
nVidia 6800GT 35.17 399 -39%
nVidia 6800GT SLI 47.75 798 -59%

Half Life 2: 1280x1024 (AA:4x/AF:16x)

Product Score Price Graph Difference
ATI x800XL 141.10 299
ATI x800XT 148.20 399 -21%
nVidia 6800GT 102 399 -46%
MSI 6600GT SLI 90.70 398 -52%
nVidia 6800GT SLI 125.60 798 -67%

UT 2004: 1280x1024 (AA:4x/AF:16x)

Product Score Price Graph Difference
ATI x800XL 111.60 299
ATI x800XT 120.81 399 -19%
nVidia 6800GT 54.31 399 -64%
MSI 6600GT SLI 44.73 398 -70%
nVidia 6800GT SLI 51.66 798 -83%

So basically the X800XL gives the best value for money. The final comments are interesting:

"Doom 3 prefers nVidia cards which is really nothing new. What is impressive is that you can play Doom 3 on the x800XL at 1600x1200 with 2X AA and 8X AF at a very respectable 40 frames per second."

Far Cry: Except for one resolution, the x800XL comes out on top of the 6800GT card while it has no problems overpowering a 6600GT SLI setup in every resolution/setting. In fact, at 1280x1024 default, we see the x800XL performing faster than 6800GT in SLI.

Half Life 2: This game is definitely ATI’s baby as the benchmarks demonstrate. Whats amazing is that the x800XL comes out on top of the 6800GT in SLI in every single resolution and detail.

UT 2004: Again, the x800XL performs very well bested only by ATI’s x800XT card and showing no mercy to the nVidia cards in or out of SLI modes.

There isn’t really anything that we didn’t like about the x800XL. Starting off, it’s a single slot solution that doesn’t require any additional power. Next, it performs as well or better than a 6800GT in most applications- in fact, it even outruns a 6800GT SLI setup in a few applications. And best of all, ATI has priced it at US$299/- which is pretty sweet for a card that performs as well. We think that ATI has a clear winner with the x800XL provided they can get the cards out to their partners fast."

Given that I can get the X800XL for £151 but the cheapest 6800GT is £229, it's a complete no-brainer (which suits me down to the ground).

Well I have FarCry, thief, Joint Operations, Doom3 and many others and they all run awesome.

Ok I have seen the x800 and ive seen the 6800gt there both similar cards when at stock but the 6800gt with the drivers i was reffering to earlier will blow the x800.

Any one know of any games or programs where i can test the limits of my card cause im running all the above with max resolution 1280x1024@75hz (my lcd screen cant handle more) max detail max everythin.
This is interesting i feel like im doin experiments heheh

Ok its obviously hard to test properly.
The truth is we cant evenly test these cards.
And the reason is that these other parts such as chipset motherboard ram cpu react differently to each graphics card. Compatibillity is one thing but True Compatibillity is another meaning you need to exploit the technologys available. Using a ATI card in a Nforce4 motherboard will work but the circuitry will not be optimzed for one another. Hence the reason my graphics card and motherboard are the same brand and have the same chipset brand.

If im wrong tell me :)

Peace

Hi PC Geek,
I know it will run the speed. but my graphics card and the CPU are about 3 inches away from each other the heat generated from the graphics card is being sucked by the CPU fan and heating the heat sink for my cpu aghhh i need to think carefully how to get a better air flow I have a sli setup maybe i can put the 6800gt in the other pci-e slot thus creating more space to de-intensify the heat levels.
As it is it will stay the same cause i like my cpu temp to be sub 32deg idle i think the system will be more efficient at a lower mhz with it being cooler rather than a higher mhz and my cpu gettin all hot hehe

Talk soon man

Peace

I wish Nvidia gave the http://www.tweaksrus.com drivers as standard then when they do
the benchmarkin they would see it pwns.
Just out of curiosity can the X800XL be overclocked to the X850XL ???
That would be a good overclock. Is the standard X850XL cpu mhz over 500 can someone confirm.

Peace
