Hello and thanks for your help.
I have a DLink 704P wired Router. Both Cable comes into cable modem, out to router then routes to 2 computers. Main computer is connected directly to the printer, how do I connect the other computer to the printer. Also, printer is connected to main computer via USB, Back of Router has parallel. Thanks

first share the printer from the connected computer, naming it whatever you want. thru control panel\printers and faxes on the 2nd computer, add printer (network printer), browse for printer and search by name.

I did that and still nothing.
I can't see the client computer on the host Network screen. It only shows my LAN. I have tried to set it up and keep getting a IP Conflict error...I have changed both IP's to 192.168.0.0, 0.4 to no avail. HELP?

You cannot see the other computer as well? what version of windows are you using? Have you run the network setup wizard? If you are using xp pro, and cant see the other computers as well, try enabling the guest accounts, run the network setup again, set the ip's to auto. reboot everything. verify file and print sharing is installed. also make sure you dont set the ip's to the same address

Hi i am kind of confused about your description on how the router is wired. I know I can help you
but will need some info from you. First. What OS are you using on both computers. What type of
internet connection. i.e DSL, Cable. either way you have a modem plugged into your cable or phone line.
from that modem you have a ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on the router. From the
router you have each computer connected by ethernet cables to the LAN ports of the router. If this is
how it is setup you network hardware is connected correctly. Next then router will assign each computer
and IP address, provided you have each computer set to obtain an IP address automatically and they
are on the same workgroup. Come to think of it I guess i should have said this in the first place
that there is a problem sharing a USB printer,it may depend on the printer manufactor. For some reason the USB port cannot be shared. I will see if there is a way around this by microsoft, But I remember having the same problem at a office once were the computer attached to the printer was running Win XP home I think
it was a lexmark X75.

I will let ou know

Hey I would like to add a few more things. Some times firewalls will stop printer sharing. Since you have a
hardware firewall (Dlink router) you can disable or uninstal all firewalls on your computer. I would also
disable Upnp in the routers configuration unless you are running like a FTP server or something like that.
Now if the printer computer is running XP and the other computer is running a different OS then I
would download the latest driver for the printer a install it. the it the printers properties (XP only) there
is a place were you add drivers of other OS. Another thing which I am sure you have done is select File and printer sharing on that network.

Any how post some more details so we can get you fixed up.

I disagree with one thing, and thats to remove all other firewalls on the PC. Yes, the Dlink has a firewall, however, removing third-party firewalls like Steganos, Zonealarm, Sygate etc... will remove the power of stopping trojans and spyware frrom connecting to the internet.

Yu candisable the XP firewall, however I suggest you leave one third-party firewall running at all times or atleast during internet usage. This way a trojan.virus.spyware cannot connect to te internet without you allowing it first. (which you wont allow ofcoarse :| )

If your Dlink router has a port on-board that allows printer hook-up, I suggest you use that instead, and configure accordingly.

Yes I do agree that tihird party firewalls should be left on the system, I did mean windows firewall only. That said I have had a NAT router installed for over 5 years now with no firewalls installed and have had to problem.
It could be just luck. I also agree the easy way is to use the routers built in printer port. though on that model
it is only a parallel port.

Thank you all for your help, I reinstalled windows on both computers and everything worked great. Zone Alarm was giving me problems along with the three firewalls I have.
