could end up in a real job to give away 20000 cd's

charge a dollar for it - nice income boost :)

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Probably not. I ordered just 100 to distribute freely on my college campus, and they denied my order. :(

They shipped about about 15 of them one time, it was a mix between PowerPC, x86, and x86-64 though.

i'd wait for 7.10, after all it's out on the 18th. i've used dapper drake in the past but my wireless card is nutoriously bitchy with ubuntu from 6.10 and following so i've been veered away since then mostly because of that. other than the "classic" linux problems (aka driver support) i like it a lot.

Yeah they always got new versions of Ubuntu coming out.

The name comes from the release date.

6.06= June 2006
7.4 = April 2007
7.10 = October 2007
...ok you get it...

I used 6.10 for a bit, then installed 7.04, but I don't use it much anymore. It was a good experience to learn from, and it really opens your eyes to some of the things MS could do better with Windows.

If you tweak it much (which you should if you intend to use it fulltime) be prepared to fix it using the command line and forum help. I'd advise either dual-booting or have a backup computer. It can also be a pain in the ass with drivers and stuff, and I never felt like putting the effort in to get games to on it. However, if I didn't like to game and Photoshop, I'd definitely use it for the other standard computer uses, like the net, multimedia, word processing etc.

Agreed. If I ran an office like business, I would use Ubuntu.

I just got my nvidia drivers and soundcard drivers going as well as getting all the codecs i need, so i can play avis and mp3s. I dont intend to play games on it, just a learning process for me.

only problem for me so far is resolution settings - max i can do is 1024x768

For some reason when I attempt to install it on one of my 2nd PCs.

a 939 AMD, 1 gb ram and a nVidia 6800Xtream (PCIe) It shows the "Ubuntu loader" with the bar bouncing back n forth an then goes to a scrambled color screen :(

So I cant even get to the install screen.

On another PC I was able to install it, but in the upper left corner there is a square thats scrambled, rest of the screen is right though.
Thats an old PII w/ 512mb ram an a onboard GFX card.

Very odd.... Would like it setup on the new PC for testing/learning.
