You can repair it via add/remove programs in control panel.
Just select IE & you'll see options to repair/fix.

Brian just to let you know explore.exe has nothing to do with IE its the program that controls the UI in windows.
just go into the task manager and the go to processes find explorer.exe and the n end the process and see what i mean. to get it back just goto file, new task and type explorer and it should come back

Oscar, why do you think it needs fixing? Are you getting a message? Is the windows explore app not working? What is your operating system? Are you sure this is a valid file? Some malicious programs run files with the same name. OK I'm gonna guess you're running XP? Hit Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK Let it run. Put in your CD when it asks for it. It will check all the system files and repair any that are broke or corrupted. You won't lose any data but you will probably have to reinstall all the window updates after it gets done working. It takes 5 minutes or a bit longer on an old machine.

meh, yes you can repair it as windows (nt based, 2000/XP) do not require explorer to work, TaskManager can start and stop programs. What I would do is get someone with the same O/S as me (i.e. same service pack) to send me explorer, then using task manager to run a command prompt and delete explorer.exe and replace it with the working version.

If you really really think getting rid of this file is gonna cure your problem, copy the fresh one out of windows\system32\dllcache to the hard drive, rename it explorerbak.exe, paste it into your c"\windows folder and overwrite the new file to the old file. The problem is if the problem is still there, it will see the new file as fresh meat.

well, you could technically delete explorer and use CMD.exe as your shell instead. I'm tempted to do this just to be able to run games like half life 2 from command prompt, and use various command switches that games still use.

If explorer is corupted i recomend a compleat install. This time use a registry cleaner and keep the registry organized as you install. this is more for advanced users that know what they are doing . Just trust me. if you need software then meet me on messenger .
