Dear anyone out there who can help,

I just installed XP Pro on a Toshiba Tecra M1 and had to install the drivers (downloaded from the Toshiba website) manually as I do not have the driver CDs that came with the computer initially. Everything seems to be working fine as I installed the drivers, slowly slowly more functionality came to life (infrared, ethernet, display, sound), but somehow I cannot get the WiFi to work. I downloaded all three wireless drivers from the website (Atheros, Agere & Cisco) and tried them all, but nothing.

I've done all the obvious, installed the drivers, turned wireless 'ON' and so forth, but windows or the Toshiba networking tool will not detect it. When I try to detect a wireless Device, it keeps telling me to make sure that it is switched ON!! All the while the Orange light notifying you that WIFI is switched on is glowing!!

In device Manager however, I have two devices that are not working (exclamation marks):
1) Network Controller
2) USB Controller.

I downloaded all of the drivers off the site, unzipped them all and put them on CD, for all the other devices present i Just pointed it to the CD drive and it automatically detected and installed the correct drivers. For the USB and Network Adapaters however, it could not find suitable drivers.

COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! I don't understand what I might have over looked, or if anyone has any older or newer drivers that work. Your help will be very much appreciated, if you need any further information let me know. Thanks again!!

Yes I just updated all the drivers and used windows update. Now it actually shows up with 'wireless networking wizard' in the control panel which is an improvement from before. However it will still not detect a wireless device on the computer. Whenever I try to detect one, it says 'please turn on your wireless device', and it IS on, the light is glowing bright orange!!

On top of that, after installing each of the drivers manually (because I don't have the TOSHIBA cds), the only remaining problem I have in the device manager is with a "NETWORKING CONTROLLER", not sure what it's for, but whenever i try to search on the web using windows, or install from the home-made-toshiba-driver-cd it can't find anything. Anyone have any ideas? or does anyone have a Toshiba Tecra M1 and have the software or drivers that I might need? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks again!!

unfortunately no progress yet. everything seems to be working fine except for the wireless... nothing detects, and when i use the CONFIGFREE program provided by toshiba to detect the wireless device/network, it says 'PLEASE TURN WIRELESS DEVICES ON', and it IS on!! Any feedback from ANYBODY out there would be very much appreciated. If i get any news away from here, I'll keep those of you with the same problem posted.

Hi!

I have just solved this problem. Just choose m2 instead of m1 and download the intel wireless driver, the first one u see when u scroll down the page.

I just bought this laptop. So my wlan has never been working until now, so I can't tell if this driver works better than the "original" did in sp1... You maybe can tell.

Try the intel pro wireless 2100 driver, if you change the options to all operating systems and narrow the search to WIFI you will get the driver, or else get it direct from intel.

I JUST FIXED THIS PROBLEM on my brothers computer. i also see that it has been a while since all off you posted your comments so if you happen to read this you can email me at honormdef@yahoo.com and i will gladly send the driver you need in a reply email(it was an endeavor to find this dang driver) please put TOSHIBA WIRELESS in the subject of the email otherwise it will probably get deleted i get a lot of spam. i got the driver from the toshiba website put it on a jump drive and opened my jump drive double clicked the driver file and after it installed for about 30 seconds i got the multiple wireless networks detected balloon(in other words it works now). also if you would like to search for it yourself the file name is tm1wlanx it is 1.92MB in size good luck and God bless.
