Sony Playstation 3 is expected to be released in 2006. The PS3 will feature an IBM processor based around IBM's 'Cell' architecture and a GPU from nVidia. The processor is expected to be based around a 0.10um, SOI, copper interconnect process giving teraflops of floating point performance and low power usage. Storage is expected to come in the form of BlueRay disks. The on-board graphics are based around a custom version of nVidia's NV5x GPU, offering around 50 times the performance of the Graphics Synthesizer in the PS2.

Microsoft X-Box 2 is expected to be released in 2006. The successor to the X-Box is expected to contain 3 x IBM PowerPC CPUs, ATI graphics hardware and a SiS chipset. The three 64-bit processors are based around the PowerPC 976 core. Each processor is a dual-core design based on IBM's POWER5 architecture and will be built using a 65nm process. The 3 Dual Core 64-bit processors will allow the X-Box 2 to simultaneously handle 6 threads. The ATI graphics hardware will be based around ATI's R500 core which will fully support DirectX 9 Pixel and Vertex Shader V.3 and probably DirectX 10. The graphics chip also contains embedded DRAM to allow an extremely high memory bandwidth. X-Box 2 is expected to feature 256Mb of memory.

Sega DreamCast 2 is expected to be released late 2006. The new machine will feature an 4 AMD processors based around the AMD64 Dual Core architecture & ATI's newer R580 graphic's core. The processor is expected to be based on the 65nm, SOI, copper interconnect process and a highly scalable HTT giving teraflops of floating point performance and low ultra power usage. The system will also house a built in 120GB hard drive with SATA2 technology. ATI's on-board graphics are based around a customized R580 GPU, offering around 80 times the performance of the Graphics Performance in the late DreamCast. Its chipset is also based on a modified version of ATI's RADEON® XPRESS 200 Series.

Nintendo GameCube 2 is expected to be released in late 2005 or 2006. The physical hardware of the GameCube 2 currently appears to be similar to that of X-Box2 with the GameCube 2 featuring an IBM processor and ATI GPU.

I thought SEGA had finished with the console market and were just doing games? It would be nice to see them back if it is true.

I really wish this were true.

The Dreamcast was WAY ahead of its' time, and even today I'm sure they'd be selling.

I really want a Dreamcast now...

Personally I thought Dreamcasts problem was people who owned a PS1 could get it chipped and get good games for peanuts, there was loads of shops and markets where you could get it chipped whereas it wasnt so easy for a dreamcast and also due to the discs SEGA used you couldnt get a full game on a disc so when people were buying they were buying PS1 because you had the chance to get cheap games, I had a Dreamcast and thought it was a damn fine computer with Powerstone, House of the Dead and Ready to Rumble as my top games.

Well, I cut & pasted this info from another Forum, which I do not remember. It must have been a late night.

Anyway, I have the Sega Dreamcast in GEM-Condition. Better than Mint. Anybody looking for a Dreamcast system & loads of games should do a search on e-Bay. They have 1000's of them there.

Dreamcast was better than the Playstation 1 & is competitive with Playstation 2 & X-Box, reason is that it was technologically way more advanced for it's time, and Sega looked at this as an advantage, so that games can easily get better over little time.

But thanks to Sony, they paid off many companies to hold there games from Sega for at least 6 to 12 months, then they would be released for the Dreamcast. That suxx of course, but look where Sony is & look what Sega is doing ?!?!

Don't rule out AMD so fast, they can't be the best all the time. ;)

Id be looking foward to a great sega console again, first it was the genesis that had 3D since Sonic 2 was released, and was able to do 3d until 32x came out, Then it was the Dream Cast with titles, like VF3TB, Sonic Adventure 1 (2 sucked as Sonic Team Cut Corners and could of made it a 2 disk game like Shen Mu), Powerstone1(2 sucked as it was missing alot of moves and had corners cut aswell to make it fit on single disk) Marvel Vs Capcom Series. Controlers seemed to fit my hands way better than any old PS1 or PS2 Controller(hands get injured from those freating tiny controllers), plus it was the first console to integrate a Modem into it, Jet Grind Radio which introduced Cell Shading into games, What id like to see is Sega Release a New Console that only requires a CPU(AMD) that is running at 500Mhz, ATI/Panasonic/Hitachi Graphics Core, Creative Labs Sound Core, 2 gigs of Ram, and High Speed HDs(For Storage of Files when you dont have Memory Cards for transfer, Same style Controllers (Dual Analog Sticks, 6 face buttons, 2 analog gun triggers and 2 digital gun triggers) Plus id like to see a True Sonic Adventure Game again, Except this time you can have 3 players controlling the other 2 characters and do some killer team moves (Knuckles Chaotix Anyone), and some great fighting, Sports, and other games, aswell.

AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ (133x14= 1867MHz) (209x11= 2299MHz)
DFI LP NF2 Ultra-B (Hellfire 3EG Rev2)
Antec SX800, Neo HE 500, 4 Antec 8CM Fans
Thermalright SI-97 1 Antec Tricool 12CM Fan
CL SB XFi Xtreme Music
2x Barracuda HDs (250/400)
2x Samsung Write

Sega was the first for many things.

Sega makes industries first game on disc (laser disc): Sega Astron Belt.
Sega makes industries first 3D Game: SubRoc-3D.
Sega makes first video game console: SG-1000 (Marketed in Japan Only).
Phantasy Star, the first major console RPG is released. (Best 8-bit RPG ever produced) (Sega Master System)
First to use both cartridges and cards (Sega Master System)
First to have 3D glasses (Sega Master System)
First to have a Laser GUN (Sega Master System)

First to come out with the Sega CD to play games on CD’s (Sega Genesis)
First to have a Modem for playing against others with a Modem (Sega Genesis)

I have to say that Sega new what they were doing. There Sega Genesis is one of the most compatible gaming console machines to ever come out in the History of History.

With the Sega Genesis, you can upgrade & use the following
Power Base Converter (Play Master System Games)
Sega CD (Play Sega CD games)
Sega’s 32X (Play the first 32-Bit games on your Genesis)
etc.

I have all of there systems to date in Gen-Mint Condition with at least 25 or more per system. ;)

SEGA were good but they seemed to lose their way in the mid 90s Sega CD if you remember its brief lifetime the saturn flopped and Dreamcast lost out to PS1 despite it being a better console I still believe it was the ease in which you could get your PS1 chipped and get cheap games that swung it for PS1 Sega just seemed to accept defeat and took it and then seemed more intrested in making games but if you look at it 3 big projects failed maybe the powers that be were not wanting to take any more chances.

I think SONY, SEGA, Nintendo and Microsoft all make good quality consoles and can not complain about any of them that much the only thing that annoys me is things like you need a PS2 for GTA or you need an XBOX for HALO.

Sega had a lot more gaming engineers than Nintendo & Sony put together. Part of the X-Box's success is due to Sega's doing ;)

You should read up on Microsoft & Sega. Cool stuff.

But like always Sega's Dreamcast was way ahead of it's time & is very competitive with the PS2. Sony is a back stabbing company which I've stated before due to the fact that they paid off many third party companies to stall there releases of new games for the Sega Dreamcast.

Sega was #1 in Europe. They were #2 in the USA behind Nintendo, NOW, who is #1 ;)

Sega Dreamcast 2? I've heard nothing about any such system. If you can prove otherwise I'll be interested. In the mean time, I'll be on google.

I don't think this is a true story. As much as i love sega, right now they are having too making tons of $$ whoring sonic out to sony, ms, and nintendo. And they also doing that matrix online thing. So i think this rumor is false, way false, sorry to rain on your parade!!!

Maybe if it takes off with those certain countries, they may bring it here ;)
