Missed the comment on 28 Apr re the NSA hooks. this was implemented at latest in Win2k I read an article in the WinNT mag that looked at the undocumented API that had one obvious use and that was a backdoor to bypass any encrytion of data. There were 3 API hooks and it is most certain that they at least remain.

Hmmmmm, I thought going from Win 98 to Win XP was a "monumental leap forward"

IMHO

you know, I was thinking the same thing when i read that post OCGW... lol... I am sure he meant win95 to win 98...lol... but you never know.

And... no offense, but all you people explaining the general slight increase in performance... i think that is a given "duh". I don't think AMD and other companies would have designed the whole 64bit thing if it brought performance down. And about the bugs... another given "duh"... I mean, this is microsoft we are talking about... just trying to make some fun :-)

I still think that I will wait for longhorn... You know? I finally get it to where I can run XP smoothly... when a prob comes up, i can either fix it, or have a program that fixes it for me... lol. I am not about to start running into more bugs with the same, but "slighty better" version of windows. I mean, windows XP alone is enough of a hassle... i wait for the next big hassle (longhorn), before I try another grand adventure into the unexplored and very "dangerous" (to your insanity) world of the newest windows. Or maybe linux :-)... better for me in the long run prolly.

PEACE TO ALL, AND TO ALL... PEACE :-) (bored)

Isn't that a little off subject? You don't get THAT much speed imrpovement... Looks like your speed is coming mostly from your system... not XP... man... or woman... :-)

Trust me. I've seen Super XP's benchmarks with his 64-bit OS as compared to his 32-bit OS. It makes a huge difference. :) I wouldn't say that it is worth all of the bugs, (as I don't even have it), but it definitely speeds everything up. I've seen proof and have also heard from many sources that I trust.

much googling provided the above.. which is the 76.71 drivers which provide sli.. the official whql 71.84 wouldnt give me the option to turn on sli (they didnt even reference sli)

I am yet to try them..but am sure they're fine.

It's funny everyone posting baddly about this has a AMD XP, and no 64-bit support in the first place.

I just laid down "the plastic" for my 3700+ San Diego (for it's performance in 32bit apps, not 64bit), & I have no plans of changing OS anytime soon

Moving from 3000+ M @ 2.6Ghz, to hopefully 3700+ @ 2.6Ghz

Windows XP 64-Bit Pro sure runs the Athlon 64's a lot faster & smoother than Win XP Pro 32-Bit.

I would Dual Boot & use 32-Bit for everyday, & 64-Bit for experimental & gaming use ;) Did anybody say Far Cry 64-Bit? I am loving it ;)

The GREEKS - Agamemnon, King of Argos (the most powerful leader in Greece)
Achilles, the son of Peleus and Thetis
Odysseus, King of Ithaca
Menelaus, King of Sparta
Telamonian Ajax, 2nd greatest Greek warrior after Achilles etc.

I think the main point that people are missing here, is not whether it will perform faster, but how much faster. All I hear right now is it is faster... HOW MUCH SO??? I mean this is the next gen hardware mixing with the proper software (64-bit)... I would hope that it would be faster. So please, if any does benchmarks, or anything out there that has to do with performance comparisons, show some numbers... not words. We already know it is going to be faster...

O.K. I am currently Dual Booting Windows XP Pro 32-Bit & 64-Bit. Now I feel that Windows XP 64-Bit feels way more responsive when opening Word, Internet, Programs, and AutoCAD etc. Now, the game play is also great, but ATI & NVIDIA need to work on better drivers. Right now, I am using ATI's new Cat 5.6 64-Bit & Farcry 64 is amazing.

So, to only use Win 64-Bit NO
To Dual Boot YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! It's Fun ;)

Don't rule out AMD so fast, they can't be the best all the time. ;)

Super XP, I tried to find your benchmarks showing your CPU arithmetic scores from a ways back. I couldn't find them, though. I guess I forget which thread it was. Anyway, why don't you show him your 64-bit SiSoft Sandra scores as they compare to the 32-bit SiSoft Sandra scores? I believe it was over 1,000 points difference, but I can't remember exact numbers.

Hey Blue, I can't find the site either. But I did find this ;)

My Memory Benchmarks in 32-Bit Windows. I get the same in 64-Bit.

EVEREST Home Edition

READ = 7153 MB/s
Write = 2896 MB/s
Latencies = 37.8 ns

SiSoftware Sandra Professional 2005 in 32-Bit & 64-Bit Windows. I lost my 32-Bit results but found these #’s which look like they can be the one, but you can see for yourself. I don’t have it installed right now. This is what I have written from one of my tests a month ago.

Memory in 64-Bit I think.
int = 7381 MB/s
float = 7309 MB/s

64-Bit Windows
Dhrystone ALU >>> 12514 MIPS
Whetstone FPU >>> 5854 MFLOPS
Whetstone iSSE2 >>> 4655 MFLOPS

32-Bit Windows
Dhrystone ALU >>> 11214 MIPS
Whetstone FPU >>> 5542 MFLOPS
Whetstone iSSE2 >>> 4293 MFLOPS

It keeps changing though. I get my best scores when I freshly start my PC & I test right away when Windows loads ;)

Don't rule out AMD so fast, they can't be the best all the time. ;)

I just bought this OS. What about antivirus? I have access to Symantec but it does not come in an x64 version. Is it ok to use the normal version?
thanks in advance.
