Hi, I own a Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 for almost a year. Throughout the year, I experience this audio problem where the audio goes on and off. So let's say it's working fine now, the next time I switch the computer on, there's no sound and no audio or whatsoever detected. To solve this problem is by switching the computer off and on it again (You cant just restart the computer). One folk suggested that to send it to Toshiba Service to get the Motherboard change. I'm a student and I cant bear to part with my computer even for just a day =) Does anybody have the same experience? Any solution without sending the computer to Toshiba and have to backup every single data in it? Thanks a bunch.

Well if you can't part with your computer, you can try buying a sound card and seeing if that helps (I'm assuming you are using onboard right now).

nah buddy u gotta send it off and get the mainboard replaced by toshiba... cause its definitely not a software issue... ita hardware issue ive seen it on the a75s211 a couple of times... good luck... toshiba takes a while to fix their stuff what i would do is call them and see if they would send me to an authorized service center as that is usually quicker than shipping it to them.......

I would also invest in a desktop in case of future problems with your notebook (laptops, being small and cramped with a lot of stuff onboard, are going to naturally have alot of EMI or heat related problems).

Desktops are damn cheap now, you can get something like a low end Athlon 64 and 754 motherboard, a Radeon 9800 Pro, a sound card, PSU and with keyboard/mouse for less than $500. Drop in a cheap 17" LCD and you'd hardly be dented beyond $600. I'm sure you can find significantly cheaper deals. Plus said desktop will be more reliable, faster, easier to do work on (less portable tho) and cheaper, plus a great convenience to have a desktop and laptop.

I basically have the same problem. What Iíve found is that when multiple users are logged in at the same time it wonít play any sound (or when one user logs on and then off and then another user logs on). As the first person said have to do a complete shutdown. Iím thinking it has something maybe to do with multiple users using the sound card at the same time or locking resources. Maybe a driver update?

Well I just downloaded and ran this program and after restarting (not a complete shut down, just a restart) audio works)! I'll let you all know if I have any problems again. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&...tware=True

Be sure to check the physical volume nob on the right side by the USB port. I failed to see it for quite a while.

Ok - here are some keywords so that many more may benefit from this post:
Toshiba Satellite A85 sound feeble no-sound volume high

Wow- I have been looking for a solution for many years now. Much of the time I assumed it was a hardware issue and continued to ignore it. Today I read a post from this we page ( one of the previous posts - thanks to that person ) who suggested the volume knob bu the side of USB port. I tried that and it works like a charm - the sound is back!

I don't ever recall noticing this knob before. Its on the front right corner, after the head/micro phone jacks. I'm starting to like my toshiba again today. One of the most upsetting things about SW is its inability to be user friendly. For eg., none of the troubleshooting steps on Toshiba suggested checking for that knob! Incredible.

Wow! My dad just gave me his Toshiba Satellite, partially because he thought the sound card wasn't working. He had called Toshiba and tried to trouble shoot the sound problem with them, but they had nothing to help him. Who knew it would be the knob?
On the first night I've had it, I found the answer here: Thank you!
