Dude, this is a serious hit to your credibility.

If you just read the press release located here

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/jun/06intel.html

It says no place that they will be x86 processors.

If you really did some homework, you would come across this page:

http://www.linspire.com/lindows_michaelsminutes.php
Quote: Future "Mactel" computers will have specially designated Intel chips, not generic x86 compatible chips found in common PCs.

You can see that they AREN'T using run of the mill x86 compatible processors!
More research, less speculation please.

This brief is right in line with John Dvorak -- who we all know is wrong as often as he is right.

(remember he said intel and compaq would merge? half right.... its was HP not intel)

one does have to wonder why steve jobs would be so stupid to not be a little more forthcomming with the little detail that they won't be x86

ok theyre not adopting any generic x86 architecture but sander said that too, it said it would be x86 but made to work specifically between mac os and intel for apple chips.....w wouldnt eb surprised if intel made x86 rebranded chips with special apple compatibility labelling....

Ive snapped:
An xbox360 and a 12" iBook....
And a kawasaki er-6n to mod instead

Yeah, Intel wouldn't change the architecture they've been developing for more than 30 years just for Apple. For MS maybe, but certainly not for Apple.

Hell if they wanted to (but they don't)

Intel could use the technology they bought from Digital a few years back.

actually thermalfreak, no he does not say they will be incompatible with regular x86, he makes a comment that now we will be able to compare them with the rest of the world which suggests they would be the same as other x86's. of course..... the rest of the world jumped on the same conclusion so I guess I shouldn't rail sasson about it.... still I expected more.

Umm seth I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

They don't have to change the archetecture, the release said it would just be a different one.
I find this very puzzeling though, IBM had gotten its chips up to some Ghz, and if i recall they had MUCH shorter pipelines then intel's netburst, which is why they couldn't keep up clock for clock, this did more work each cycle so they couldn't go as fast. plus..... anyone notice how hardly any PC's have Ghz rating anymore, they are all performance ratings or model numbers. (athlon64 3600+ X2 or pentium 4 660 ) Yea its still listed but.... on the way out

maybe they are slowly moving to challenge PCs? I'd honestly say what makes a Mac a mac in my friends eyes is the ease of use and styling, that could be done with Pc compatable components just as easily..... perhaps they don't want the headache of testing everything to see if it works right and prefer to stick to parts which only they make, so they KNOW it will all work together properly.

and actually If i recall, MS did dictate a couple things they needed a cpu to do to the reporter speculated it was to make up for some goofs in windows 98 (of course they did this back when it was going to be win 97)

wait, isnt there something about not using caps in posts? (*moves cursor three inches up*) Ah, yes here it is...it says...one sec....mMmh..."please do not use caps" Right, did u miss that bit?

in regards to intel and apple: its just another way intel can suck at gamming in my book.
