haha, doom3 was a very very very wellcoded game. most games dont target 6800Ultras or X850XTPE. How many people in the world can afford those videocards? Only 5% of the market are enthusiastic people. I can't be considered one because A) I own a 9000Pro, B) The X850s and 6800u I use are always reference boards or test ones and i always return them because that way, they'll keep sending me more stuff. Did you know that i tested 7800GTX a week before it came out?

but anway, i returned it already. as i was saying, new games target the X300 and the Geforce5 MX440. not the X850 or 6800

Tell you what I smell? Yes the eye can only see 26fps. but the noise can smell bull s**t for 400yrd sorry to be rude but, if you are a tester (and not some 12 year old that thinks, if I study hard I maybe one day I may be, so I could,,,,,, put that)

What I see of your post your saying Geforce5 is still a standard card, mate no computer shop has sold that for 18 mouths. so buy MORES law that would be like 5 genertions back, I had a FX5950utlra (VGA kid) to a single SLi 6600gt (pci-X num nuts) the 5950 is a good card, still very stable and good VGA, the 6600gt an, well mid card for PIC-X got 2x that, with out over clocking, and you human eye could tell the difference, (buy that I mean the girlfriend)

Ohhh and the 7800 is pci-x, witch would mean that, to run you would need at least 2800 754, not a socket A 475,,,, the A is for A**hole!!!

My 2 year old has a doll she says you can play with if you like?

We still sell MX440's in the form of V9000 or V9400. Our best seller by far, in fact. But I agree that I can see a huge difference between games on those and on a 6800U. Guess my eyes are better than some. I'd also venture to guess that enthusiasts don't represent anywhere near 5%, probably closer to .05%. :-)

Ever notice that its always the posters who are flaming others who can't spell? :-s

To Clavin Chan: Who thinks most of us are liars, & thinks we don't know what we are talkin' about, & no body cares what we think, because we can't back it up w/ benchmarks, or screenshots

I have been here 2 years, & you have been here 2 minutes , & you are callin' us out? LMAO

First of all @ the 1600x1200 pixel resolutions these currrent gen gfx cards are designed for you will not get 100+ fps w/ full "eye candy"

So you say you get 30fps in DOOM3, @ what? 800x600 w/ no AA/AF, OK look @ my screenshots @ 1600x1200 w/ 8xAA/16xAF, & you will see the "difference" buddy

Welcome to the Major Leagues dude

Enjoy

E-penis +++!!!

Geezus, not everyone can afford a 6800Ultra. or 7800GTX. You think I'm lying just as I think you are lying. We are even. But anyway, the dude called Lincoln, I think I only comprehended 70% of what he just said. I won't flame you on spelling or whatnot, but please, think before you say things.

First of all.

1.) The geforce FX Series are great cards, they were just overshadowed by the performance gains by the Radeon9XXX series. DirectX9.0C support, fast cores, stronger shaders than the Radeons.

2.) Yes, I realize the 7800GTX is PCI Express. WHO THE f**k TESTS COMPUTER PARTS ON THEIR OWN COMPUTER? If anything breaks, I am liable for payments and repairs. I test hardware in bulks. Meaning I usually recieve an entire system before testing, very rarely do I get single components. I tested the Intel 955X chipset along with the 7800GTX. There were two points in this test. PCI-Express performance on an Intel Chipset vs. nForce4 Chipset and the actual 7800GTX card itself.

3.) No computer store has sold a Geforce FX for the past 2 years? I do beleive the 6 series came out only around a year ago. And how does Moore's Law reflect that I am wrong. Moore's Law states that Computing power will double every 18 months. Ummm...please elaborate what you said before. Another fact to prove you wrong is the fact that the FX5700Ultra running on GDDR3 RAM is availiable for PCI-Express, not PCI-X. PCI-X is an entirely different interface on server boards. And what what does "good VGA." mean? I do believe that VGA stands for Video Graphics Array. A system for distinguishing array of colours and its co-ordination.

4.) Single SLi 6600GT? What? Doesn't SLi mean Dual or Quad Video cards? (Yes, Quad, Gigabyte plans to release a Quad SLi motherboard.)

5.) I understand that the 6600GT can ruin a last generation top card. (9800Pro) But I don't get what you mean by, "the 6600gt an, well mid card for PIC-X got 2x that, with out over clocking, and you human eye could tell the difference, (buy that I mean the girlfriend)". Please extrapolate.

6.) Being a hardware tester does not require studying hard and working for it. I'm, barely 18, work at a furniture store and I'm a part time hardware tester. All you need is an interest, initiative to ask sites and hardware vendors and some background knowledge with how things work. (And that doesn't mean, "The videocard is incharge of the video stuff." You need to know how hardware architecture works.)

7.) Last but not least, I'd like to apologize to the people I have branded as liars. but without proper benches and screenies, my trust isn't all that high.

To: OCGW, The following are not attacks on you, but rather suggetions to further your computer performance.

First of all, using Tt is already a sign of weakness, every enthuasist knows that Tt is crap.

Improvements for you:
1.) [Combco Cool DIY Series Tower 112] Change that to a Coolermaster Hyper6, or XP-120 from thermalright or even an Asus StarIce.

2.) The San Diego cores do not overclock well. Please visit OCdatabase to have a larger reference. The Venice and San Diego cores are not overclockers. But since you have a "stable" OC of 2.89Ghz, I believe you got lucky. The San Diego cores supprot SSE3 so thats a good thing for it.

3.) You motherboard sucks. Plain and simple. If you're gonna overclock go with a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR or the Ultra-D, which you can mod into a SLI board with just a #2 Pencil. With these motherboards, you can go SLI anytime you're ready.

4.) Get rid of that RAM. Your processor isn't a revision E. All A64 processors do not like highspeed memory till the Revision E's. Either get one of those and keep the RAM or go for any RAM with BH-5 chips. Those can do high voltages and keep it stable at the same time. All overclockers call it the holy grail of over clocking. Apprarently some BH-4 was made for testing purposes. BH-5 ram is no longer for sale retail as it was too expensive to produce but ask around, some people are selling them used.

5.) Go phase change cooling. I have two of these units for sale. Prommetheas Mach II GT. They are better than Vapochills because the prommies dont require condensation prevention and dielectric grease.

5.) Those SmartFan II must be driving you crazy.

Those that don't have the maturity to take someone are utterly pathetic. The smart Fan II don't live to their specifications. get a Dba meter and find out for yourself. even know they had speed control, everyone in this f**king world knows Tt is a disgusting brand. Perhaps only their cases and powersupplies are decent. It's okay to admit that you are wrong. lol. screaming in cap doesnt mkae u bigger.

Lincoln,
If you were typing backwards or having a hard time understanding what others are posting, dyslexia would be a great excuse. I've got a dyslexic friend who spells very well. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my website, as that's what he does for a living. :-)

Also, I didn't say MX440's were very good, especially compared to the 6xxx series. However, they are more than adequate for most mid-level games and what most of my customers ask for. The only legitimate point that I see Calvin making is that 'most' consumers don't care to pay for or can't afford state of the art VPU's. That's about all that I can agree with from him though. :-)

I've got to take exception with a few of Calvin's comments.

"WHO THE f**k TESTS COMPUTER PARTS ON THEIR OWN COMPUTER?"

I do. I test every component that we sell and every system that we build on my own equipment first. Its part of what makes our business better than the competition. Then I sell these components/systems as demos with full 3 year warrantys (which is the same warranty that we offer on a new system).

"Single SLi 6600GT?"

Most people with limited funds buy a single 'SLI ready' 6600/6800 card with the intention of upgrading to SLI when it becomes financially realistic. In other words, SLI cards do not have to be run in SLI mode.

"Being a hardware tester does not require studying hard and working for it."

Obviously. And being a tester doesn't make you an expert at anything or give your opinion more weight than anyone else's. Revision E's have some serious problems on Nforce 3 and Nforce 4 motherboards. Symptoms include motherboard shut down and failure to boot. No fixes have been reported yet. You want to do a little homework on the situation before recommending them.

"The San Diego cores do not overclock well."

Since I'm in the process of installing one now (should be done tonight if time permits), I'll let you know if I also get lucky. My resources say the opposite of your opinions. Just because Revision E is supposed to eventually become an overclocker's dream, doesn't mean that the San Diego isn't a good overclocker in its own right.

"You motherboard sucks. Plain and simple."

I'm assuming that you're referring to the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939 nForce3 mobo? I've tested various models of MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, and Abit quite extensively. I'm now running a DFI Lan Party SLI-DR through the wringer. My results and opinions don't mirror yours. Granted, if you are looking for the best OC results, DFI is the current king of the hill. But to say that the GA-K8NS-U is a bad board is ludicris. I prefer Gigabyte or Abit boards to Asus or MSI anyday for dependability, support, and performance. The GA-K8NS-U was one of the better boards that I've tested to date in its price range.

Of course, like yours, this is all only my own opinions based upon my own experiences. I think a major difference is that I'm 50 years old and have been building/testing/selling systems since before you were born.

Overclocking is not the art of running the fastest components on the planet. Its making what you have/can afford perform at the fastest possible speed with stability. One moment you're critisizing people here for buying expensive components that aren't necessary. The next moment you're telling someone that a system (which btw, is 3 times better and faster than your own) is crap and how to make it better. You really need to pick a side of the fence and stay on it IMO. :-)

yarn, care, not realy, yea i'm dislexic, and your friends dislexia must be like your knollage of computer, weak, as mine is more like your imagination, stronge. but thanks for taking the pis* show's that you are 12, and not yet mastered the art of compassion.

why would someone that knows little about computer's, be a hardware tester? would that be like a blind man been a art critic? or a nun helping with a sex problem?

iam 30, ISST tex, with a reading age of a 7 year old, and yea i bet your finding it funny, i would if my IQ want 142. i find it sad, ten years in school be told that your clever and just been lazy at writing, makes you feel very small. then the week before you go for your exams been told you are dislexic, and there sorry, but have to put me in for the exams anyway, know that it would be like putting a 7 year old in there, now thats funny.

so you realy think i give a fu*k about what you think? after the carp i have been in? thats before i start on seen my wife in bed with my best freind, the loss of a child to name 2.

Lincoln,
My last post to you was not an attack. I pointed out how a dyslexic friend has been very successful. You should find some inspiration in that. When people look for negativity, they tend to find it.

I'm not a freebee tester like Calvin. I'm not calling him a liar, but I know many people in the business who would love to be able to test components and/or systems for free. Think about it. The operators of Tom's Hardware, PCstats, (and I'm guessing this forum as well) have trouble getting all the newest components to test and even review, which should be in the manufacturers' best interest if their products work as advertised. Yet, an 18 yo who's not even in the business gets this stuff to test and review for free in his spare time, and then must send the components back. In the meantime, he runs a 2500 at home and doesn't even buy the stuff he's reviewing? Something there doesn't add up.

I pay for everything we get. I'm not a tester for any manufacturer. I'm a tester for my customers. We test as much of the new technology as we have time to because its what I do for a living. I'm looking forward to posting my new system bench scores soon about my latest system, which I know nothing about. :-)

And one word of advice, I learned in the USMC in 1973-76 that real men don't have to tell anyone that they're real men. :-)

The revision E's are not 100% compatiable with all boards. Some require a bios flash or mod. Many third party bioses have already appeared.
