Obviously Geforce 7 7800GTX is going to perform better with additional Pixel Pipelines, as it comes with few more "minor" enhancements, so that performance is justified, as they jumped to 24 not 32 Pipes. Certainly, 7800GTX would perform better in Aquamark or 3D Mark, but the performance gains in games are not that great

Although getting 7800GTX without waiting for R520 would be a bad Idea, as R520 also will have 24 or 32 Pixel Pipelines, and will cost around the same.

Jumping from 6800GT/Ultra or X800XL/X850XT PE to 7800GTX shouldn't be a good Idea...as the performance gains are there, but not worth it for $600.

If anybody is upgrading from old card i.e., Ti 4200 or ATI Radeon 8500, then this card suits u just perfect, considering it will serve u for longer time, and I'll say that's a smart upgrade....Hmm may be I would say wait for 15 days or so, who knows price will fall? ;)

All I can say is that I love max setings on BF2 with no slowdown or jolting. I tried it on a friend's Viewsonic 20.1" LCD (I am on a 19" CRT until I can get a 1600x1200 capable LCD) and at 1600x1200 8xAA 16xAF with supersampling on, I could still play with no jolting on the screen :). God, does that game look AMAZING at those settings. It is at these settings the 7800 GTX comes into its own, not 1024x768 with medium settings.

Compared to my friend's framerates (FX55@2.8Ghz / 6800 Ultra), my setup (FX57 / 7800 GTX) was about 25% faster across games on average. Now to me, that is a sizeable improvement, and is well worth going for a 7800 GTX over a 6800 Ultra (But not upgrading from one as I have said before).

No way can I match Gamez rig in games Supreet

& when he OC's he should take me out in everything else

All it takes is "cubic dollars"

You guys see what you want to see

He is doing 25% better than me @ stock, & I have my gpu OC'd "balls out"

I can game @ 1600x1200 full "eye candy" on any game but BF2 where I am "limited" to 1280x960, I am certainly envious of Gamerz in game performance, & I just dropped enough coin to buy a 7800GTX

But it was time to go 64bit so I did the mobo/mem/cpu

Re: 7800GTX Benchmarked by a REAL person on an average box

HL2 1600x1200

6800GT 8xAA 16xAS 20FPS
7800GTX 8xAA 16xAS 40FPS

That is the only thing that matters

When you like hi-res, & full "eye candy", you will not compromise, & you still want playable frame rates

7800GTX may not be just the best card ever sold so far

For a Perfectionist it may be the only option

@ full 2x the performance WHERE IT COUNTS

Either for my Bday Sept. 26, or Christmas I will upgrade my gpu, to either a 7800GTX, or a R520

Supreet, what happened to simple logic? Now you're saying it is worth buying Geforce 7800 GTX over Geforce 6800 GT even thought they are upgrading from a very old card for extra 300 bucks just to get 5-15 FPS?

This is coming from either fanboy of either brand!!! GOT THAT!!!!!??

Supreet, you are obviously being fececious (playing stupid)

I don't have playable frame rates in BF2 @ 1600x1200, w/ full "eye candy" like I have enjoyed w/ all other games thus far

Deafguy, when did I say upgrading from 6800GT or 6800Ultra to 7800GTX is worth it?........ofcourse its a simple logic.

Listen I am saying it again........lol listen carefully now.

1. Upgrading to 7800GTX from 6800GT/Ultra/ X850XT PE isnt a good idea

2. Upgrading to 7800GTX from Ti4200 or below is a good idea.

I rather belive in one time investment.;)

As it will beneficial for SLI later on.

Are you freaking serious? So I should upgrade to Geforce 7800 GTX from my Geforce FX 5200? Even thought the performance gain over Geforce 6800 GT is pretty small? This is a simple logic as well. Geez

Supreet, your are obviously being facetious (playing stupid)

I don't have acceptable frame rates in BF2 @ hi-res w/ full "eye candy" as I have enjoyed w/ all other games

Gamerz does

I am not telling anyone how to spend their money

But I know what it takes to have top performance, & I am not talkin' benchmarks, I am talkin' real world hi-end performace in games

I agree with Supreet. :) If you upgrade from 6800GT to 7800GTX, then you just have money to burn. The only way that I would even think it would a righteous purchase is if you have a 1600 monitor and actually play at those resolutions. The people with LCD monitors, (which is becoming more common), would be out of their minds to get this for a 1280 resolution.

Playing stupid?

Deafguy..the thing I am trying to explain is 7800GTX is NOT better deal if ur upgrading from 6800Ultra or 6800GT.

But it doesnt applies when YOU ARE BUYING new card, OR UPGRADING FROM VERY OLD CARD..................... hell if u have the money why not get the fastest?

Playing stupid though ?

Yes, because I have very very old card and it just doesn't make any sense to shell out extra 300 bucks for Geforce 7800 GTX. There are plenty of homeless people and charity that could use this money and you're wasting them.

300 bucks more for merly 20 FPS? That is just sad.

Then why even $300 for 6800GT?, 6600GT handles games well isnt?

One more thing is......7800GTX might give u better performance with newer games.....but then again it comes to "factor" of upgrading.....having a card like 6800GT or X800XL is good enough these days.

I also see ur point though..that..15-20 FPS for another $300 isnt worth it........sure TOTALY agree.

But as I said before getting Latest card will going to help u little longer also......just give it a thoguht ;)

I did, and Geforce 6800 GT have much bigger improvement over Geforce 6600 GT and cost about $150 bucks more. Geforce 6800 GT can play any games with all details maxed out and AA and AF turned on, that is something Geforce 6600 GT cannot do. There isn't one thing Geforce 6800 GT can't do Geforce 7800 GTX can do expect for extra 20 FPS. Merely enough to justify $600 bucks price tag.

hell ! I cant see a noticable diffrence between 1280 and 1600 ? why you want the higher resolution ? 1280 is enough for now :D

ludwig, no offense, but if you cannot see the difference between 1280, & 1600, it miiiiiiight be time to go monitor shopping

Supreet, like it or not, the 7800GTX is REQUIRED to play all games @ MAX settings, PERIOD, anything else is a COMPROMISE

Blue, some ppl HAVE "money to buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurn"

If I had Gamerz money, I would BURN mine LOL

ps. Supreet facetious (playing stupid) is an expression, do not take it literally, you are 1 of the "smarter" ppl I know, which I already know you haven't, you know I don't intentionally try to hurt my "friends" feelings

No Dude, this is the thing I dont understand.

7800GTX may shine in benchmarks, but its better ONLY if u r getting new CARD or Upgrading from VERY old card.

Although 7800GTX is good, but I was expecting more outta it, but then again I guess, its about right for 24 Pixel Pipeline card, It would be good Idea to see how R520 is going perfom against it.
