No official word yet. It seems that Intel had plans to do something back in early 2004. But if you want my opinion, the only thing they've succeeded in doing in the last two years is dragging their heels.

i've read an article last week about pentium. their plan for releasing pentium 4Ghz was cancelled because it was far behind the lates athlon cpu. i also read the articles that compares athlon cpu to intel cpu and it was stated there that athlon is the fastest running cpu as of this time. a pentium having a speed of 5Ghz is the only one that could break the athlons speed performance which i think as of now intel is working with.

I don't think Intel would shoot for a base speed of 5 GHz out of the P5 because that would leave a very large performance gap in their line. The FX-57 runs probably around 5.5 GHz too.

Honestly though, can you give me an example of something innovative Intel has done in the last few years? I'm not saying that their products aren't good, they just aren't, well...impressive.

Ofcourse they did something impressive Mike, they released Dual Core chips, they released chips with 64bit extension called EM64T, its just AMD is better due to their Superior Architecture, which comes with Shorter Pipelines.

Intel must concentrate on their Desktop chips Architecture, Ghz is not a true way to judge a performance, and AMD proved it, they will have to make their Desktop chips identical to thier Mobile Chips if they want to stand in the competition with AMD. I dont have a clue why they still want to sell Ghz.

Currently AMD Athlon 64 is much better choice, obviously HTT is far better FSB.

There are no clear plans on Pentium 5 chip yet.

Supreet, cant you at least try to be impartial on this subject? Of all the times you proclaimed the word according to AMD! you cant keep that sales pitch out of here.

Please for the sake of sanity, don't say things like shorter pipeline or better 64 architecture or HTT is better than FSB... cause unless you are an engineer working for AMD/Intel or have done EXTENSIVE research you dont know, sorry.

Not saying I do, but i'm not tryin to sell AMD with every one of my posts contained in the Processors Section of the Forums.

Well Intel must be doing something right, since AMD filed 2 law suits against them for monopolizing the CPU market. 1 suit in Japan and one in the U.S. It would seem that no matter how many Supreets are out there singing the praises of AMD, they can't keep up with the market share, and need the courts to help them. Just like Real and MS in the EU lawsuits.

From what I've learned in all of my participation in the AMD vs Intel wars, AMD is the way to go. They are cooler. (That means that they overclock much further.) They offer more memory bandwidth. They give you a better gaming experience. They are cheaper. Personally, I wish them all the luck in the world in this lawsuit, as long as Intel remains a super power. I certainly don't want to see Intel's prices remaining the same while AMD prices go up. While I want to see AMD prosper enough to remain a force to be reckoned with, I certainly think that we will all be better off if the sales ratio remains the same. That should ensure cheaper AMD products.

And why does Pentium win? Cuz of their larger front side bus multiplied by 4 and added gigahertz to their processing power.

Think about it man, 70 percent, or more, of people who buy Pentiums are either computer illiterate. The big exception tho are schools and governments.

AMD better for gaming, true, but Intel kicks ass in multi tasking, and thats why people buy Intel over AMD.

Schools are not gonna buy AMDs so that kids can download demos in their 4 megs networks and run them flawlessly. They r gonna buy something thats gonna run AutoCAD and s**tload of application besides it without freezing. Its common sense.

And the lawsuit they are filling is a load of crap. They are not satisfied with knowing their processors are better, they always want something bigger.

Totally agree with Supreet tho. I mean common, my friends' amd at 1.8ghz beats my P4 at 2.6ghz, he can run doom 3 with no problems at all, while I lag like hell. But hey, my comp loads windows faster and doesnt slow down when I open Winamp, steam, msn, mozilla firefox, aim, yahoo messenger and internet explorer at the same time. ;)

Evan B !

D00d you said:

"Supreet, cant you at least try to be impartial on this subject?"

I said:

"Ofcourse they did something impressive Mike, they released Dual Core chips, they released chips with 64bit extension called EM64T, its just AMD is better due to their Superior Architecture, which comes with Shorter Pipelines."

Didn't I said Intel did pretty impressive? am I being impartial? I said Intel sucks? ... all I am saying AMD Architecture looks quite nice compared to Intel, specifically for games.....and with inclusion of AMD X2 chips they looks even better. Whos' being impratial here? or perhaps you want me to lie?

Intel is good, but AMD takes lead overall, I am not saying AMD STOMP INTEL, sheeeeesh !! gimmie a friggin break Evan !

Engineer working for AMD/ INTEL?

Sanity?

Jusssssssssst gime a break Evan...LMAO
