You shouldn't need to disassemble the whole machine for this job. You often find with laptops that there are some screws underneath a plastic strip above the keyboard. Remove the strip, then the screws, and the keyboard should come away quite easily. Not sure about the HD on your model, but generally you can slide it out of the side of the machine once the securing screws are removed.

I've looked at a picture of your laptop, and it really looks like there is a plastice panel about your keyboard which is probably removeable. Carefully lever it off and you should find the screws you're after. Note I said should-be very very careful when prising it off in case I'm wrong and it's not removeable. I think it will be, but I've never taken a Vaio laptop apart, so I could be wrong.

i tried and it really isnt giving any at all so im assuming there is something holding it together. I hate how they wouldnt tell me how to get to the hard drive even after i ask. I kno a lot about computers but this one is def beyond me how/why they make it impossible to do something like this.

you should be able to remove the harddrive underneath.

I have the same Sony Vaio Notebook and found that those instructios for taking it apart are correct. You have to pop off the piece above the keyboard. The black part where the power button and speakers are is surrounded by a thin blue strip of plastic. Just pop a little screwdriver under it and it pops pff. Takes a little effort. But like he sais be careful on the right side under the power button is a ribbon, so try not to yank it too far. Then there's one screw holding on the keyboard and another ribbon.

I was replacing my cooling fan and heatsink. It works fine now, but I've run into a little snag. I can't seem to keep the unit running for more than a couple of minutes. Either I accidentally did something to the power source or the processor. The processor is glued to the heatsink, so you have to remove it and place it on the new one, if you ever do have to replace the fans. Got it off of eBay for 15 bucks. Couldn't find it anywhere else. I've checked everything and it looks to be fine, probably just missed something somewhere.

Anyway for the hard drive just take the little square plate off the back on the left side, unscrew the hard drive and put the new on in. Pretty simple there.

Let me know if you need anything else. Also if you do run across a repair manual for the pcgfrv25 let me know, I found one, but it's 19.95. I googled it and found it, can't remember the site. Some laptop repair place with manuals for all kinds of stuff.

Later,
Phil

Hi Chris, Phil, and Chris,

I have the same laptop and wish to replace my keyboard too. So I just want to confirm with you that the right procedure is to remove the blue plastic panel surrounding the black panel which houses the power button and the way to do it is to, as Phil says, "Just pop a little screwdriver under it and it pops off. Takes a little effort. But like he says be careful on the right side under the power button is a ribbon, so try not to yank it too far. Then there's one screw holding on the keyboard and another ribbon."

Do you just pop the screwdriver in beneath the front of the blue plastic panel just above the keyboard? And how far in under the blue plastic panel do you pop the screwdriver? Does that also remove the black panel?

Thank you fellows.

KH

I also have a sony vaio PCG-FRV25. My problem with it is I think the main cooling fan is broken. The computer overheats a lot and when it does, it just shuts off. I've bought a cooling pad to put under my laptop for the time being, but I really want to get the cooling fan replaced ASAP. I can't even import songs from a cd to iTunes or watch videos online without it shutting off. This has gotten to be really frustrating. I don't even know the first place to look to get it replaced without going into debt. Any suggestions on inexpensive, fast repair for my laptop?
