That's a nice system. I can't wait to build something faster. :) $5,176.00!? Wow, they should take out all the hard drive space and throw in some phase change cooling like I'm going to do. :) My budget is set at $4500 as of last month's prices with better RAM, a better mobo, and better cooling. I'm drooling over their LCD monitor, though. That would look huge compared to my 17" LCD. I am kind of puzzled at the native 1280 resolution, though. I wonder why they didn't go with 1600 resolution, especially with 2 x 7800's. The performance difference over 2 x 6800's probably isn't much at that resolution. Their RAM setup is kind of odd too. They are using all 4 slots... The guys that set this machine up weren't hardware experts.

Ha, my PC is only 2000 3DMarks away from that one!

And they used water cooling!

I bet that with water cooling, I could hit that 12000 3DMarks.

And they could have done much better if they wouldn't have gone w/ OVERPRICED Xperts. They should have grabbed 2 sticks of PC4000 from OCZ or Mushkin (Do they make 1GB PC4000?). They would have been able to pump their FSB to 240-250.

If im not mistaken, they were running the 4 sticks of ram in dual channel... Oh well, I wish I could buy such a system.

All of that is because Attack of the Show sucks. If they still had TSS that crew could have built one much better. Casue they were real geeks not just actors.

I highly doubt they used over 1GB of RAM.

Now that it has been brought up, are there any speed differences between 2 pairs in dual channel and 1 pair in dual channel?

They used 4x512M sticks instead of 4x1GB sticks because the memory clock was automatically set to 333Mhz, making it overall slower.

AWEFUL... Give me 4k and I'd kill their numbers. Hell with the new box I'm building I bet I will kill their numbers, and spend 1/2 the money.

First off, everyone on here knows strait up that the best motherboard is not an Asus... especially for overclocking. Don't get me wrong, at stock I believe Asus or MSI is number 1, but w/ any sort of overclocking in the future DFI kills everything. Also performance difference between 1GB and 2GB is maybe 5FPS, but using 4 sticks will seriously limit overclocking as well. I suppose they wanted the fastest stock box you can build... which in my opinion is kind of dumb. For that kind of money I'd want that thing running at 3.4Ghz or higher. I've seen 3700+'s w/ the right equipment running at 3.2Ghz.

We should all pull our money on here and destory their puny box mwhahahahahahaha! (evil laugh.)

Dude, didnt you read? They had no time to experiment further and overclock it more. They didnt do water cooling because they were having too much fun playing.

For f**ks sake, READ!!!

I just checked the parts they used and performance numbers... Honestly I'd rather tweak than play. You can't call something ULTIMATE if it's not is my point.

>> Re: Attack of the Show's "Ultimate Gaming Machine 9.0"
I can guarantee you that I will have a faster PC this winter for $3500. I'll have to wait on the graphics until I get the extra $1k ($4500 total), but they won't be able to touch my machine once it is finished. I don't care if they didn't have time or not. They wouldn't reach the speeds I'm talking about with just watercooling. :)

Now the question is whether or not that a 4800+ will be faster and than an FX57, if they were both overclocked with phase change cooling. Does anyone happen to know the quick answer to that, or if AMD dual cores are even supported by phase change cooling?

Look at Anandtech's Doom3 benchmarks compaired to theirs http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2451&p=9. Anand is running 1GB of memory and an FX55. Which would make for a much more affordable system, and it's still faster. It just goes to show who knows their stuff.

Blue you have to ask yourself ONE question... "Am I going to continue to upgrade my computer within the next few months (like 6-9months.)" If the answer is yes, get the FX57, if the answer is no get the 4800+. As far as I know the FX57 craps out around 3.6ghz on phase change cooling, I don't know about the 4800+.

Personally I'm gonna get a 4000+ Diego and get it to 3.0 or 3.2Ghz and wait till next year for the quad cores (yes they're slated for Q3 06 at the moment,) before I go multicore.

Dude, you should totally challenge them. Bring your machine to their studio and compete against their UGM. They'd probably be up to it because hell, their guests aren't that good.

That would be awesome. I would totally do it too, as long as they paid travel and hotel accommodations. lol I would love that.

they have a suggestion thread and everyday at 4pm PST/7pm EST there's a live chat w/ the people that work on the show. You should totally challenge them, their UGM just seems like they picked the most expensive parts. It says they tested for 4 weeks, but looks like they didn't test very well.
